Okay sorted (phew - breathes sigh of relief!)
By way of my contribution to this process, please be aware that if you have enabled 2 factor authentication it stuffs up your access when logging into your phone for the first time.
The fix is to log into your Google account on your PC and remove 2 factor authentication (you can re-enable later).
Once I had done this everything was hunkdory, but imagine this is going to crop up again with it being a recent Google enhancement.

Another option might be to log into your Google account settings from a PC (https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount), select 'Authorizing applications & sites' and add an application-specific password for your phone.
Haven't tried this myself as I've not had to wipe my phone since enabling 2-factor verification, but it makes sense in theory.

If you're setting up a new phone, or re-setting up after a factory reset it makes sense to work within the security of the system rather than disabling it then forgetting to re-enable it.

EDIT: Just wanted to say that subsequent ROM flashes where I have started from scratch have worked by generating an application specific password...

New ROM going pretty well so far. I re-installed all of my apps to internal storage and not a low disk warning in sight

I have since moved standard moveable apps to SD, but knowing that the low space warnings should be a thing of the past is a huge relief.Only slight issue with Leedroid so far is that every now and again Sense seems to crash and re-load (it seems to go into a bit of a loop once it starts happening), but a reboot usually cures it.
It's really satisfying to be flashing ROMs again though. I had a HTC Touch HD before the Desire and was always tinkering with new ROMs on it.

AFAIK all apps are installed to your EXT partition anyway so moving the the apps to SD doesn't seem to make any difference (well didn't in my case.)
I haven't had any crashes but if it's a regular thing then you could try a reflash in case there were problems with the first flash.

If you partitioned your sd card and now have a2sd+ please move your apps back to phone.

Have read the FAQs already, but not sure why it's necessary to keep them all on the internal storage. Surely the EXT partition on the SD just works as a virtual extension of the phone's physical memory, so presumably you can still keep the internal storage down (whether physical or virtual) by still moving apps across to the SD card?

Its a symbolic link between internal memory and SD-EXT where the whole app gets moved to EXT.
On the old "move to SD" it moves part of the app to SD FAT32, which means the app is split between NAND (internal) and FAT32 on SD. Mounting SD will prevent these apps working.
Whats happening with you is the entire app is being moved to EXT, then you are further moving part of that app from EXT to SD so its split across 2 extensions.
The EXT partition does not register as additional storage so moving an app to SD shouldnt save any space (in threory).
You don't need to save any space on EXT, because you make it big enough in the first place. There is no benefit to moving it to SD, then further it on to a2sd.
Now you have the 2 technologies working against each other to achieve the same thing, which is not healthy.
If move to SD is sufficient for you to save space, do this alone, remove your a2sd script from your rom and forget about it.
Generally this isnt sufficient, which is why many people root in the first place. Then you use a2sd to replace this functionality as it is better.
Not sure I understand why you would want to go to the effort of implementing a better solution, only to team it with a poorer solution, making your better solution poor too?!

You should read all SUroot faqs/guide (which I found is the most comprehensive guide u can find in the forum) and you will have a rough idea of the complete process.
It took a noob brain like me 1.5 night to get everything up and going.

Thanks for the explanation, it now makes more sense. It was never my intention to team it with a poor solution; just a lack of understanding of the logic and reasoning behind not moving apps, which you have now clarified...
My concern is that even using apps2sd, space would still appear to be pretty limited, but it will certainly do me for the time being...
