Which email app are you using?

Do emails show up later (i have had that happen on stock app)

If on Gmail, are you using filtering at all?

Ie i have set addresses that go directly into folders and skip the inbox, i get a notification but have to go to said folder to see the email

Mr. Ed,

I am using the standard email application on Gingerbread to access my POP3 accounts (I have my own URL hosted by Network Solutions). There are no filters setup on my accounts so I get all emails/SPAM. It's odd. I get a notification. Check the email and open it. later I get a notification that there is a new email and when I check, I see no new ones.

I do use the gmail app and that works fine

Very odd indeed. I have not experienced this myself but I do not use the stock app at all. I have seen someone on XDA post about this. Assuming it isn't you I will follow that post and see what happens

I am having the same issue. I too have a pop3 account that gets notifications that there is mail when there is no email. I have other IMAP accounts that work fine. On an average day this false notification happens at least 30 times, it is kind of annoying.

I have the same issue. Skyrocket with Gingerbread.UCLA3. On POP3 from ATT/Yahoo account, I get an email notification every time it checks email (30 min interval) regardless of whether there is mail or not. Been using phone for about 6 mo., and this just started about 2 weeks ago. I do not have this issue on my MS Exchange Server account or on my gmail account. Very irritating because it causes me to ignore notifications, and I now regularly miss important messages because I think there will be nothing there.

I had this problem after checking my junk mail once on the phone using my yahoo account. It would act like I had email but it was the junk mail triggering the alert. The only way I could fix it was to delete the account and re-enter it. Haven't had the issue since.

Had this happen recently with my gmail.

Way I fixed it, I went to my email on a PC and noticed that there was 1 email that even though I deleted on the phone, kept showing up.

I deleted it and then emptied my trash and it finally went away.

For those with the issue, go to your email with a PC and see if there is an old email that won't delete.

I had two issues with the stock email app within a couple weeks of getting the phone. One, IMAP just refused to working, locking me into POP3 and costing me my folders. Two was the notification issue you're having.

I dumped the stock app and switched to K-9 Mail. Full IMAP support and no notification issues. I highly recommend switching to it if the stock app is giving you headaches.

I get this with my gmail acct but i get a notification and go check it,i see it and can read it for about 3 seconds then it disappears and i see no mail listed in my inbox at all

to the mix. I have 4-5 different email accounts setup. Two accounts via GoDaddy, which are setup as Pop accounts and they work great. GMail account works great. My hotmail Pop account seems to be the only one having problems.

I have also noticed, for example, that the notification on the email icon will say I have "x" amount of emails. Even if I don't open the email app, the notification count will go down.

I really hope somebody can figure out a solution. I really like the stock email app, other than this issue of course. The side-by-side view is great.

Update: I noticed that my notifications will appear and the emails can be read as long as I have not checked them in my PC email app. I use a Macbook Pro with the stock Mail app. There is also a setting in "Accounts" under the "Advanced" tab that was checked "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message : immediately". I unchecked that setting as it was unchecked on all of my other accounts. This appears to be working for me so I hope this will help at least one of you.

Sorry it took so long to respond. Fidj, I deleted and re-entered the account. That did the trick. Been working perfectly for a couple of months now. Thanks!

Cityangel,

Start by writing down your current settings (this isn't required, but if you're like me and not an IT guy, it's good peace of mind). Go into email and click on the account in question. Click the list button (bottom left on S2)>more>Account settings. Copy down settings.

Delete current email account: Go back to main email window. Click list button. Select Delete account. Select account to be deleted. Click delete.

Reinstall email account: Go back to main email window. Select list button>Add account. Fill in blanks using the info you copied down at the beginning.

Good luck!

I use yahoo mail accounts and I had the same problem too. I had the account setup on the phone thru Yahoo! Mail and i had that problem. I received notification, deleted the emails, then i received the notification again but no emails.
I then deleted accounts and run email setup again using Others via Social Hub, still using those yahoo accounts and the problem went away.
