Root I give up

Dudditz

Android Enthusiast
OK, got my phone back from T-Mob today.

Wanted to root it and get a custom ROM on it for Apps2SD+ etc, was going with LeeDroid 3.0.5.

So I root with unrevoked, no problems.

Partition my SD card with Rom Manager, then going into Clockworkmod recovery to update to LeeDroid.

It goes through, appears to install it all and says 'Welcome to LeeDroid' or some such.

I then reboot, and up comes the pink/purple t-mobile loading sign.... and then it stick on this for... well it's up to 45 mins.

So I go to install the backup which I was pretty sure I done, to find it say there is none :(

So what can I do because it looks as if it is buggered.

on hboot 0.93, can't actually get the phone on :(

Help please :(

Flash the non a2sd version. If it works it means your partition isn't working properly. Which wouldn't surprise me using rom manager.

Also did you take the backup with Rom manager? Hope not.

I do try my best to steer people away from using it

Did you do the recovery backup (nandroid) before or after partitioning the card? You must have copied the ROM zip on afterwards for it to be there.

Anyway, options? You could try flashing the ROM again - if you didn't do so before, a wipe (factory reset) before flashing would be worth a try. I wouldn't wait 45 minutes though, 20 max.

Alternatively, flash a different ROM. Just to get it going you could use the non-A2SD version of LeeDroid (just to get the phone going again), or a rooted stock froyo ROM such as this one (one of the init.d versions, you don't want to flash a radio at the same time). Or if you are sure your ext partition is OK, download something else.

If you are wondering how to do this when the phone won't boot, the trick is that you can USB mount your SD card from recovery (it's probably under "mounts and storage" or something like that). So download a ROM to your computer, mount from recovery, copy across, wipe then flash.

SORTED!

So it looks as if it was down to the partition then, which I never would have guessed really. Last time I rooted, many moons ago, I done the partition with ROM manager and had no problems....

Will look into GParted but that will be left for tomorrow...

Cheers guys, much appreciated as always.
