I never had an Iphone, but was thinking the same thing. After years of owning ipod touches, and from what I understand the iphones are the same way, ol Steve Jobs says theres an update, this is when it will be released, and on that date you plug in to itunes and ya have it. This guessing game is nuts! Granted I am a very impatient person, but damn.

Exactly. When Apple sets a release date, it just happens. That's a plus for the iPhone. It will work, there's no guessing.

Some people are acting like we're insane for being frustrated that we don't have the OTA update yet. But it's not like we just heard about froyo on August 27th and have hard time waiting three days. Incredible users have been waiting for awhile now. Sitting by as we watch practically every other droid receive 2.2.

We're feeling like that fat kid picked last in gym class.

Bear in mind - CSR pronouncements are very strange in here.

If the CSR says something that fits the preconceived notions held by a forumite, the CSR is godlike.
If the CSR says something that conflicts with a particular forumite's notions, the CSR is a worthless dumb ass.

It doesn't matter one whit what the CSR says, it is all in the ear of the beholder.

I have had an iPhone and while it has its own set of issues, the update process is SUBSTANTIALLY better. Announcement with the date of release: wait 24 hours and read the blogs to make sure you don't need to wait for 2.21 instead of 2.2 and then you download it when YOU want it. Easy process. The biggest issue was awaiting the Dev-team and the jailbreak that allowed everything to work...

Just got off the phone with a Verizon CS rep.

They are rolling out the update to between 5K to 10K phones per US time zone for the next few days. Depending on the level of traffic and the number of users experiencing issues this will be sped up. The CS confirmed that over a million devices had been sold by the end of Q2.
Oh ^%#$&*%^&*(^*(&*(&)(*&_&)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at that rate and number is will take 100 days to reach everyone!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

you want the update, go through the RUU steps. Seriously. If you are that upset over it, then do it yourself.

If you want to be patient enough to wait for the OTA which is being "rolled out" then good for you, just no bitching.

If its not enough for you and you want to show your anger by supporting evil king Jobs then go right ahead. Have fun with a crappy, overrated, outdated, update ONCE a year phone.

I recently saw a forum ask for someone to save the file from their ota and send it to them to post, so others may get the update as well. Will that really work?

If your referring to me, I am not a Jobs supporter. While the iphone update may be one per year, its quite painless. You think the Dinc isn't in the same boat? You think we will see 3.0? This has been one of the least supported phones I have owned. The way Verizon or HTC, Santa, whomever rolls these out is horrid. Apple people go on Itunes and boom they have their update. My garmin nuvi has an update, go on the internet and get it done, its not a new thing, and would be much better than the lottery system or pulling names out of hats, or however they chose who gets the update and who doesn't. Would make me happy. I know I could RUU and whatever, but why should I. When Verizon says we are releasing an update on August 27th, thats when it should be available to all, not a select few. Its there job to make sure it doesn't brick phones prior to release. Releasing it to 10k per day and crossing your fingers that there is no problems is not a good way of doing things

rant off.............

This is a long shot BUT.......has anyone tried activating an old phone on their account and then reactivating their DINC?

It seems that activations in the past 2 days have gotten the update immediately. Its prob based on the MEID but who knows?

I don't have an old phone to try this with or I would.

I just bought the Incredible today and have 2.1. No system update available.

None of the Incredibles of those I work with (including my own) have received any OTA update as of yet... I'm in Utah.

On a side note I just went ahead and took a shot at installing the RUU, and although I did get the 170 error, I was able to get past it fairly easily w/ the help of the posts in this forum. I'd highly recommend it if your curious or can't wait. If anyone has any questions about 2.2 feel free to pm me and I'll do my best to let you know.

I never really had any complaints/problems before, and I've yet to see anything but positives for 2.2.

ya, if an update.zip file can be downloaded, then people can load it to their SD card and update it from there

Wait.. you're kidding right? lolll

I am not kidding at all. I have been on the phone with Verizon CS/TS 6-10 times, HTC 3 times, and Verizon Executive Relations. They have never promised me a date. I am in need of the software fix, so I am impatient, but I can't blame VZW for any delay.

EVO's update screwed up some phone which JUST got a fix the other day.

Droid's update screwed up and had to be rolled out a few times.

So Again, why are people complaining?

P.S. I have been told to expect my update by Friday at the latest. Less than 10000 phone have got it so far, but the expectation is to be mostly done by Friday.

P.S.S. I never believe what they say, but I hope they are right.

My husband went in on Sat and got his crappy Ally replaced with an Incredible. Just an FYI real quick, the Verizon store in Huber Heights, OH got in a shipment of 125 Incredibles on Sat they said. Anyhow, the guy who helped us had the nerve to tell my hubby, right in front of me mind you, that because his was a newly activated phone he might get froyo before me. WHAT???? I asked him why and he said that he had sold a few earlier that day and within a few minutes of activating their phones they were prompted to update. I called BS and we left to get dinner. While sitting there hubby was messing with his phone and asked me what a particular icon was.... Sure enough it was the update notification for 2.2. Now he has it on a (now) 2 day old phone, and mine that is 3 months old is still waiting. Anyone have input one way or the other? Me thinks I need to go duct tape and hog tie the csr who sold hubby his Incredible. Grrrrrr

Go into your account online and switch the phone ID's with hubby, then call your number and his phone will ring and say "oops, verizon mst have switched our phones, I guess I get yours now and you get mine"!! :p:D

HaHaHa! Love it! Hubby would come home with a face like  and then  followed by  when I tell him what I did. Then I will go :D and hope he forgives me. LMAO

Just to keep ot, no froyo here. No ice cream, not even a DQ ice cream pie. I am dairyless. lol

Correct me if I'm wrong or coming off as naive, but I was led to believe that typical OTA rollouts start with a small sample size and increase day to day? as in 1000 day one, 10,000 day two and so on and so forth....

I am thinking the new phones are getting it cause there now being advertised as having 2.2. Maybe they have to deliver as advertised. If I saw it advertised as having 2.2 and I went into the store and it had 2.1, I'd be upset. Just a thought. I am probably wrong. If someone already posted the same thought I'm sorry

I do believe you are in the ballpark of being correct. Can't say for sure as no official word has come, but I believe you are.

Its prob the reason. But on the off chance new activations were just being bumped to the top..... I wanna try deactivating and reactivating a DINC. I just dont have another phone to temp activate.
