but if you do a factory reset; will you loose your contacts and installed apps?
yes, but contacts can be restored easy(assuming u sync with google), and apps can be brought back quickly if you backup with a app like appbrain first.
last time i did it, i was back up and going within an hour or so

but if you do a factory reset; will you loose your contacts and installed apps?

yup, just back them up.

Use AppBrain or ASTRO for the apps

The phone has a built in backup process for your contacts. Go to PEOPLE->MENU->IMPORT/EXPORT....You'll want to Export to SD card. To restore, import from SDcard.

I'm trying to get all my contacts backed up. For some reason some are on my phone and not on my gmail contacts. Is there someplace I can just say send them all to gmail!!!? lol

Oh, and if factory reset goes back to how it was out of the box... well that is with 2.1. That is why I'm confused.

I believe what they are getting at is it goes back to the way it would be if the phone had 2.2 out of the box (ie no contacts, apps that don't come preloaded, default settings, etc.). From what I understand once you 2.2, you don't go back.

I am thinking the new phones are getting it cause there now being advertised as having 2.2. Maybe they have to deliver as advertised. If I saw it advertised as having 2.2 and I went into the store and it had 2.1, I'd be upset. Just a thought. I am probably wrong. If someone already posted the same thought I'm sorry

My take on this is the reason the new phones in store have the 2.2 is because the tech guys used the RUU to update them, there aren't any customizations on a new phone yet, so there would be nothing to lose to do the RUU for all the new phones in store.

My thinking is, if you are going to end up doing a factory reset anyway, then go ahead and do the RUU, there is no reason at all to wait if you end up doing a factory reset afterwards. That is why I chose to do the RUU as opposed to waiting, not because I was impatient, which I am, but I figured a clean install would be just as good and probably better than a OTA. The process is real simple and appeared to be very stable. Next time I won't wait at all to do the RUU.

Upgraded my old verizon flip phone to the incredible on Thur 8/26 when the Verizon website showed 2.2 on the specs. It came in today. Not a surprise that it only had 2.1 on it. So, those who order the phone on the web through their verizon account don't be shocked when your phone arrives with 2.1. I guess they must have an inventory of the phones with 2.1 and will keep selling them until a batch of 2.2 phones comes in to replenish inventory. I'll be waiting like everyone else to get their update.

It is misleading in a way to sell something that doesn't come as listed. It was a matter of principle that got lost in my discussion with verizon support tonight.

I still love the phone, though. Can't wait to get 2.2.

Well said. And welcome to the forums.

technically its fraud if you advertise something and it does not come with it and when it really gets good is as soon as its mailed its mail fraud. Its also the ole bait and switch as well. I think the way there are going to get around this this is this line "product specifications, subject matter and advertising material may change without notice"

Or, there's no actual intent to defraud so there's nothing to complain about.

The thread "I HAVE RECEIVED 2.2 FROYO" would probably give you an answer to your question.

Thread merged.

I just gave up and loaded the leaked RUU of the OTA froyo. Its the easiest OS install I have ever done, no rooting or anything required. I recommend everyone give up on waiting and just do it.

P.S. I was very disappointed to find out that VZ is charging $20 for 2gigs on the wifi hotspot, I get 5gigs for $25 tethered so I wont be making the switch.

I just got my Incredible today and was missing the 2.2 I had on my stolen Droid. I followed the Windows 7 x64 install thread here and it worked flawless. Loving this phone.
