The trick is to pretend like you don't care about it anymore. Then it'll pop up outta nowhere. :) (Stares at loading screen that I "don't care" about.)

ETA: The bootup animation was pretty nifty. I missed being greeted by, "DROID!"

Exact directions are in the other thread. It seems to have worked for everyone who tried it (including me).
 
To those who have been having issues trying to force the update with the date trick. When I did it, I went in and unchecked the auto update feature in the date and time, set it to 10/2/2010 and backed out. I was on 3G only. After a few seconds the date switched back. I got a notification that my swiftkey beta had expired (no loss, hardly used it) and I had 2 updates from the market. I downloaded those, then went to check in the setting for software updates. It was already downloading. There was nothing in the notification bar, no tone or vibrate, I didn't power off the phone after I changed the date, nor did I turn off background data. Even though the date only changed for a few seconds it must have been enough to start the update.

Also, I have not done a factory reset. I have not experienced any lag or anything, no little bugs (except a few of the widgets didn't update, so I sent them to the trash & reinstalled them on the homescreen & they work fine). I may be able to squeeze some more speed by doing a factory reset, but I'll wait a bit for that. Soo far my battery is at worst the same and probably better. My quadrant scores range from around 1150 to 1350. I'm a happy camper!
 
FIIIIIIIIIIIIIINALLY!!!!! . . . forcing/tricking the phone/towers worked for me.

I must have tried the date trick over 100 times yesterday with no luck whatsoever.
I even got creative & forced my phone to stick with dates beyond Sept 9th, by setting it to 11:58pm on the 9th & it rolled over to the 10th. Then the 11th, 12th, 13th, etc. all stuck . . . Nothing helped get an update though . . . However, I think the right sequence of things finally worked for me this time around. Here's what I did:

1. Open Dialer and enter *#*#CHECKIN#*#* & let it do its thing. Once complete, you should get a notification reading "Checkin success" and nothing else.
2. Open the Market & download a couple of updates.
3. Open Settings, Uncheck Automatic, Chang the date to 10/3/2010 & it will instantly changed back
4. Immediately press back then select About Phone & checked for updates
Mine finally indicated that I had a 2.2 update ready!
(I got concerned when I saw the DROID eye for a solid 15 minutes, but eventually if finished up & I got a "Congradulations..." message)
 
I just got mine around 1am EST. My battery was around 15% when the notification for the system update came up, so it told me to charge the phone first in order to install it lol. Longest charge EVER haha. only needed to hit around 20% tho, then it worked.
 
VZW didn't lie when they said it would be pushed out by 9/3

I had previously installed the leaked 2.1 OTA that gave the 3G hotspot and 720P. I had a feeling that this would affect me getting the new OTA and I was correct. I had to root to install a custom recovery, then downgrade and unroot, lol. As soon as this was finished there was the official 2.2 waiting for me. Downloaded and installed just now. w00t!
 
2.2 is AS ADVERTISED.

I feel lucky there are no hiccups in speed. No factory reset for me. it doesn't look like i need to do it. it still flies when going through sense. messaging app looks nice with contact pics. gmail looks good. flash player 10.1 is on board. (plus all the bloatware)

However I've developed the habit of going to check for updates every 10 minutes. I'll manage with 2.2
 
my daughter was the first of our 3 to get it, then my wife got the update yesyerday, this morning i still havent gotten it yet so i did the change date trick above and 5 minutes later its d/l 2.2 now.. thanks for the tip ;)
