Sounds like you're out of phone storage space,I think there is a difference.
I had the same problem last week,it was due to one file I d/l,it was huge(93mb).
Check your d/l history in your browser(home page, menu, more, download history),if you have something huge there,I think you can delete it by pressing on the d/l item.
Or,go to your file manager & look there for answers.
PLEASE WAIT for someone else to chime in first,(or PM someone more capable than myself), to confirm or add to this.

You definitely need to start moving stuff to your SD card, or start installing them to your sd using an app called apps2SD or something, or wait for 2.2 when this will be possible to do without any apps

THX for jumping in,you definitely know more about this stuff than I do.I need to use a little more restraint offering advice in the future.Going to d/l apps toSD for myself right now.

Erasing the video on your SD card didnt work because apps dont use SD card for storage, they use the phones internal storage. So you need to, like NY said, move some stuff from your phones memory to your sd card. I would not recommend apps2sd because it will be a messy situation when you get the 2.2 update. You will have some app here, some apps in this folder, some apps there, and it would be messy. But it works though.

Overall, the best solution is to uninstall apps you don't use.

Yes! And make sure each app you download doesn't have auto update checked. Some of the updates take up a ton of space.

I go to applications, all, and uninstall the market from time to time as well. It defaults back to the original but saves on storage space.

And like Joser said...get rid of apps you don't use. Just be careful not to uninstall anything you need (if you are rooted).

You are correct when you say updates take up more space but, thats only for system updates. Updates to apps obtained from the market (or elsewhere) replace the old version. Also, updates to system app updates will replace the already updated apk.

In most cases you are right. But in the case of The Market that's a different story.

I want to control my updates...not the application. Thanks for the info!

Market (aka vending.apk) is a system app. It resides in /system/app. Its update resides at /data/app as com.android.vending.apk

we should add into the sticky for people to include their carrier when they post their question to avoid always asking people who their carrier is.

That's really a great idea, NY. Actually it would be nice if they set up their profile so you could see what device they have and the carrier as well as if it is rooted, etc. Kinda like mine and yours.

Good idea. The Phandroid app doesn't show that info though. But it will cut down alot of it though.

yea, but chances are unless people plan to stick around, they prob won't even ever go to their UCP

MetroPOS aka MetroPCS. Carrier shouldn't matter though.

It could matter because I have seen posts where users had removed the stock market and were having probs.

But that isn't why I don't want to remove mine. I see no reason to remove it. When I get updates by going to the market, etc., sooner or later my apps don't want to d/ld because the market 'data' is too big. Then I have to uninstall it and it defaults back to my original Market.

This is the only way I know to quickly clear my data from the Market.

I didn't say remove the market app update and the original. I said move it to /system/app. That way you will recover the space on /data/app. Its not as simple as copying com.android.vending.apk to /system/app though. If people want to know how to/I do it, I can post it tomorrow.
