Root I need help with my unrooting

b3701

Newbie
i have tried to follow the directions of both the good and evo guide to unrooting an evo as well as the xda developers guide and i am stuck! im pretty sure i rooted my phone with the unrevoked 3 and accordingly i have placed the apparently required unrevoked s-on to my sd card and followed the steps to get it to change from s off to s on and was successful, the problem i am having is with the pc36img.zip file. it is on my sd card. when i try and follow the last steps my phone goes into the white boot loader screen and says checking the pcimg36.zip file no image/wrong image and then after it finishes checking it says main version is older! update failed!do you want to reboot device?

can someone please help me?!!!!! i just want to get it back to the way it was when i first purchased the phone

well thanx to matlock, we have a much better http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide. there is a section for unrooting. grab the PC36img file that matches your hboot.
1.download it and rename it to PC36IMG. do not add an extra .zip as windows hides extensions.
2.transfer it to the root of the sd card.(not folders)
3.power off then press and hold power+vol down.
4.hboot should see it and select yes to update and then reboot

you should be unrooted!!

When you boot into bootloader check your hboot version. Then make sure the PC36IMG matches your hboot #.
If your hboot version is older than the pc36img version you're trying to flash, you'll get this error.

Post back what happens when you switch your PC36IMG.

Edit: Ocn beat me too it! Good job homie!

if i want to go back to stock sense i can unroot and get the standard ota updates just like if i had never rooted it right?

you can still update after unrooting, but just so you know that you will not be able to re-root again until an exploit is found. and you may have to wait if you change your mind. the update is not all that. we have stock rooted gingerbread roms that you can just flash and you will be updated. and if you are up to it, we have roms that have sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 which htc will never update our phones to. they are really amazing roms!!! you can have pretty much the same stock rom that is running the evo 3d without having to upgrade your phone! it is purely amazing what these devs can do!

if you need help with any of that including unrooting you we can do it. i just think that being rooted has so much more advantages then not. and that accepting the ota will really limit you and your phone.

so if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Before you unroot, why don't you flash the rooted version of the update? It is way better than the stock update and the rooted version has updates for sense, stock doesn't. It blows the stock update out of the water.
Ahhhh, ocnbrze beat me to it by one minute..darn your fast. Lol

alright what is the best rom to flash, where can i get it, and how do i do it
1.ok so download this file: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
2.transfer it to your sd card
3.power off then press and hold power+vol down
4.select recovery
5.select "backup and restore"
6.select "backup" to make a nandroid backup
7.select "wipe cache partitions, "advanced"/"wipe dalvik cache" and "wipe data/factort reset"
8.select "install .zip from sd card"/ find you rom file and select
9.reboot

now the first reboot will take awhile as it has to build dalvik cache. so be patient.

now you are updated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can apply that very same steps to flash other roms. you can get most of them on the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html sticky.

edit: the rom i gave you is the stock ota. so if you want something different try mikg2.2 to start. again found in the rom/kernel sticky.

it worked perfectly and thank you so much i will no longer unroot my evo unless i absolutely need to, now if i wanted to flash gingerbread or what ever rom to my evo i would follow the same instructions including deleting the cache and everything?
and once again thank you

glad everything worked out. just remember to always make a nandroid backup. they are your friends. also to wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data at least 3x. clockwork mod just does not wipe very well. amon ra 2.3 is a much better recovery. here is where you can grab it along with directions:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html if you need help with switching, you know what to do.
