Root I need rom tools help(boot animation)

Troytron

Newbie
I downloaded recovery flasher. My main goal is to put a boot animation on to my phone. Silly enough I entered in the number for my device and now it is asking me if I want to either
1. Install drivers, Obtain root, and the flash recovery
2. obtain the root and flash recovery
or
3. flash recovery

I ididn't want to root my phone I just wanted to use recovery flasher to add a boot animation to my device. So what's the next step. (post all of them if you know in advance ;)) thanks guys

I pressed 7 because I want to add my bootanimation but it still didn't work. Where do I add the boot animation so ROM tools knows what bootanimation to push?

Read the instructions. I'm not sure, haven't used Romtools in a while, but there should be a folder named boot animation in Romtools. Rename the boot animation you want to use to bootanimation.zip and place it in that folder. Then use Romtools to push it to your phone.
p.s. I know your looking for help, but posting 6 threads on the same issue in 2 days goes nothing but clog up the forums. If you'll keep it all on a single thread all the questions and responses will be in the same place for others to find.

1) You are going to have to learn patience, multiple threads about the same subject are a big no-no! :(

2) Post in the all things root subforum, as this is something for rooted phones

As far as deleting threads I'm pretty sure if you hit the report Icon at the bottom of your member Info and bring it up to the Moderators attention then they would delete those threads or post they determine warrant it.

Merged the 4 threads that were exactly the same together.:)

and moved to root section

^This:)

All threads merged, hope you find the answers you're looking for

Troytron,If you go up near where the site directory is,just under it is a blue bar, there's user cp to the left.Click on it.Click on edit your details.Go to the bottom of the page there's a window that lets you give you device info that will be displayed with your user name. There you can put down your device, stock or rooted(if rooted, what recovery your using, and what ROM).Some times this info will speed up the time it takes for a member to help you. The more info you give the better. Hope this help's

Troytron, tell us a little about your "V" and your computer. In order for ROMTools to work. You phone and computer must meet certain requirements. Have you established ADB on your computer?Have you installed the LG drivers on your computer? Is your phone stock,or rooted?I've been around ROMTools a lot experimenting with it to try to fix a borked "V". I've even changed the boot animation a few times using it. The more info you can give the Quicker we can help solve your problem.

My phone is not rooted. I have windows Vista. I think I have a folder that says adb from superoneclick. I dont think I have the LG drivers installed.

O.K. You first have to establish ADB in your system path.I'm a "NUUB" to computers and Android phones, so It might take me some time to wander through the sites and threads to get you the info that you need just hang in there. There's one that I used that is 'Nuub" proof, it might take 10min.to get the info for you.

When you get that done, open up ROMTools and click on the ROMTools.exe : At the prompt enter #2,then #1(the"V"),then#1. This will install 3 drivers, have patience wait for all three to install(you will be asked several times through this setup to agree, etc.),when that's done,on your phone hit the menu button then select settings/applications/development/USB debugging needs to be checked. connect your phone to your computer wait for the drivers to finish installing, then continue,by establishing a shell root(temporary root goes away when you reboot your phone),make sure you only click on the shell root. After it establishes a shell root, do not exit the little window or SuperOneClick.exit ROMTools

when you've done that^,then open up ROMTools folder and look at the top folder.Open it and remove the place holder txt. Place your boot animation zip inside renamed bootanimation.zip. Open up the ROMTools prompt(click on ROMTools.exe) and select #7 ,follow the instructions. After 2:oo here I'll check back tomorrow(today) to see if you need any help.Edit:you might want to make sure the boot animation is designed for the "V",I think you should be able to use those for the "S'" as well but can't be sure.

If you eventually want to do a full root to install custom ROM's and theme's then look through these threads, you will find a lot of useful info. Then if you have problems or questions ask(its better to read, before asking sometimes).Plus these threads might just answer your Question. There's a search box right above your welcome box. It's not the best yet but if you just use key words it might help you find the info you seek sometimes.

This doesn't work on my rooted optimus V. I have done some snooping in the terminal emulator, and it seems that i have a /bootimages folder which contains several "sprint_power_on_xx.rle" files. similarly, i cannot manage to find the alleged bootanimation.zip file which is supposedly on the phone, as the /data/local directory only has a tmp folder, and the system/media directory only has an audio folder... does anyone know a reliable way to change the bootanimations on a rooted stock ROM?

additionally, i am curious if it makes any difference if the bootanimation sequences use bmp, png, jpg, rle?

thanks in advance!

lol google'd a little longer and came across this youtube video wherein the guy explains that changing the boot animation only works on ROMs that support bootanimation.zip, and not on stock ROMs, which use a proprietary and un-cracked approach to boot animations.ANDROID Boot Animation (How-To Change It) - YouTube

just thought that i'd share this find for the next noob to follow in my footsteps...

If you follow the directions found here http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...el-rom-change-boot-animation.html#post3000366 You will find that ROMTools will establish a temporary root(you have to do this part first, select #2 on the prompt),that will allow you to change the boot animation on a stock non rooted phone. That temp. root will go away at the very next reboot of the phone, but you will have a nice new boot animation(as long as it's supported by your phone)

Try looking in the /system/media file if you are rooted. Delete the old boot animation first then copy the one that's on the sd card and paste it in the old one's place. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MADE A BACKUP OF YOUR SYSTEM IN YOUR RECOVERY MENU (BACKUP AND RESTORE)BEFORE DOING THIS.

THE KEY IS TO MAKE SURE THE BOOT ANIMATION IS SUPPORTED BY YOUR PHONE
