Would Verizon allow me to return it a second time if I buy it again and don't like it? I'll probably go to a different store I guess if I do...

I could be wrong, but I believe you can only get one return if your purchasing it for the upgrade price.
I got good battery life with my standard battery with heavy usage and it's been even better since I got the extended last night. (Used my LivingSocial deal that I was going to use for my wife's phone that I don't need to buy anymore.) I think you might have had a bad battery or it just needed to be cycled to calibrate correctly.

all depends on screen usage.

I can go 2 days , 1 day , 7 hours , etc but theres no way in hell anyone is getting more than 5 hours of screen time on.

5 would be very acceptable...but in reality i believe i was getting 1 1/2h on average for the 4 full cycles I did...It was slightly better today, but there was no way it was going to double in battery life no matter what optimization it went through.

Not a Nexus owner yet, but as a Tbolt owner(notorious for bad battery like), this is the truest of all statements. This CAN double life. And you CANNOT leave 4g on all the time. Can't do it if you care about long battery life.

I find that my battery life gets better after a week, or so, of charge cycles. I was ready to throw the last three phones I had in the toilet the first couple of days for battery issues.

Where you are can also make a difference. My office is in some old building that really slows down my data while inside. Battery drains about twice as fast there. I've noticed the same issue if I am in my public library or hospital.

My max speeds with 2 bars of 4G have been no better than 3G (about 7.5 up, 2.5 down).

Those are not 3G speeds.. 3G speed ranges from about 144Kbps to 2.4Mbps. If you were getting 7.5 on your Droid X it would have had to have been on wifi. The download speed you're reporting is on the slow side for LTE however.

So far (end of day 2), with heavy use, I haven't had any battery issues at all. Lasted until I put it down at midnight last night, and still going strong today. I have 4G on - doing nothing special.

I'm convinced that 4G phones and shorter battery life go together. I'll be interested in seeing what battery life is like on the 1st iPhone to come with a 4G connection.

Having said that, I don't think battery life will be atrocious once I get past the first week of having the phone on more than normal because I'm so infatuated with it.

Since the extended battery fits under the stock back cover, that seems like a no-brainer solution to the battery life issue.

I'm currently at 8hrs and 30%. A couple of things that cause me not to worry.

1. Custom Kernals will change this battery stuff extremely
2. Now a days i have a charger everywhere i go
3. I'm starting to wonder if the screen is still eating up juice even though you have it off. If so a custom Kernal will take care of that. Would be nice to get a Chad's IncrediKernal on this thing

Couldn't have said it better myself. Adrynalyne already has a modded kernel out there, although it's just for adb commands which google left off. Only a matter of days until we get some great stuff for this device. Hang in there, it's only just begun.

Really, this needs to be pinned at the top of any Verizon 4G phone thread. To date, no Verizon 4G phone reports to you the signal strength on the LTE frequency; not in the status bar and not in the menus. It's your CDMA radio because it is always connected for voice. On one side of my building, I get horrible battery life because my phone sucks power trying to hang on to 4G. Where my desk is, I can get through the day on 50% of the battery. I'm willing to bet your GN was hanging on for dear life most of the time.

Good luck with that 4S!! lol. I have many tech buddies who are complaining about it's battery life as well. The supposed fix didn't do much from what I hear.

I feel where you are coming from though. I've been on the iPhone since 2007 the week it was released. When I finally made the jump to Verizon I had to borrow a friends Dinc to get me by until the nexus came out (did an AoL to get unlimited data). Boy was I shocked when I realized how horrible battery life was. Didn't know I had it so good on the iPhone 4. Coming from the Dinc for the past few weeks.... the Galaxy Nexus has amazing battery life. I also picked up the extended battery that hads NO thickness... its amazing. 2100mah seems to be ok.... currently at 21h of minimal usage with 19% battery left. I don't care what they say about li-ion... I always fully charge and fully drain my new devices a few cycles when I first get them.

Does the LTE radio get shut down when on wifi then? Or do we have to manually go in and change the networks option from LTE/cdma to cdma? I'm not using the LTE radio since I know I'm on wifi, but am I using power keeping the LTE radio on but idle?

Here is a shot of mine from the initial charge, lots of WiFi app downloading because of the signal you see. And a little video viewing. About 30 minutes talk time. LTE always off off, I will only turn that on when I need it.
Even with no bars showing it talks great.

Terrible battery life doesn't bother me. I am coming from a DINC and so far my GNEX battery experience is 100x better then what I was getting on my DINC. I could honestly only get my fully charged Dinc to last through two one hr movies that I streamed. I will get probally two more batteries like I did with my DINC for when I will be away from a power source. Outside of that, I see no need to complain since I am always near a power source and our using my PC.

Battery life always gets better with updates. I expect crap battery life whenever I get a new powerful phone like this, then after I root it and get a custom ROM the battery life gets better. Look at the Thunderbolt, it was bashed for having abysmal battery life out of the gate and now my Thunderbolt cruises through a whole day and into the next day sometimes. Plus as others have mentioned there's the route of an extended battery or what I do is buy a generic battery and charger from ebay and just swap 'em if I don't have time to charge. Also, I would never expect iPhone battery life from an Android phone.

Since you returned the phone within the 14 day window you will be able to buy another phone at the upgrade price after 24 hours. That's when your upgrade should pop back into the system. I don't work at Verizon but this is from my personal experience.

I'm coming from an incredible with a 1800mah battery. I bought the extended battery, since it is only a hair thicker and is 2100mah. I think it's very comparable, hard to say since its my first day. I'm at 4% now, took it off the charger at 4:30 am.

I would say to those that worry, get the extended battery, I only paid $25 for it at the Verizon store.

Yep Dinc user here. I get about 10 hours battery life if I dont use my phone. Can't wait to upgrade.

Besides that's the life of having a smart phone. If you want a phone that lasts for a weeks get a dumb phone or keep your smart phone charged. There are so many ways to keep it charged that there really aren't any excuses IMO.

i have the extended battery. i didn't even give the stock battery a try. So far with pretty much light use, a good amount of texting, on the Facebook app a like 3 or 4 times throughout the day nothing for more than 5 minutes. I had 4g on all day and i have 27% with 11h 33m 35s on battery and the screen is taking the most life at 35%, android os at 23%, phone idle at 12%, cell standy by at 10%, FB 9%, phone 4%, media server(idk what that is) 3%, keyboard at 3%, android system at 3%, and Messaging at 2%.
i really hope the battery life gets a lot better

Today I ran the GNex from fully charged to shut-off-DEAD before 2:00 PM.

I will give it about 10 charge cycles and if it doesn't improve, back it goes.

LOL! Are you serious right now? There is not a 4G LTE device out there that will get much better than that, much less one with a 720P 4.65" AMOLED and a dual core. I can understand the guys that are complaining about 4-5 hours of life, but 11 is pretty amazing even for some 3G Android phones.

...was it on 4G all day? If so you cannot! compare it to the X. LTE EATS battery, I know that Verizon and the manufactures don't advertise that, but seriously, it kills it.
