I returned the Nexus today :-(

I hear you, but without the LTE signal strength, you can't really know if this is or is not the problem. From reading around, LTE is a different beast in terms of wireless data speeds. You may be pushing/pulling fast, but on a low signal strength the radio may be boosting power and eating your battery. I should note that even when I'm on a fringe within my building at work, by no means am I getting paltry LTE speeds, but I can almost see the battery ticking down running speed tests and doing other data-related activities. I know you don't want 3G only, but I would have suggested you give it a day on 3G to make sure it wasn't a bad phone or something. Also, LTE vs CDMA coverage area for a cell isn't equal, so there's no guarantee that the tower where you're connected to the CDMA network is the same as your LTE tower. Some of your assumptions aren't necessarily wrong, but they aren't necessarily correct either. I've been waiting months for an app to hit the market that can query the LTE radio signal on any Verizon handset.

I'll agree with you..

I will give it a week or at least try to...now i am itching to just buy an 4s even though I really don't want it or need it....pathetic :D Any battery issues will be cleared up soon, its not a hardware issue with that one.

Another big part is my car stereo, its a pioneer avic x930bt and has the ipod interface, i would hate to lose that :( I can stream from the nexus to it but no album art, song info or anything like that.

since you admit its the best phone out and its so amazing. Isnt it amazing enough to buy a extended battery from verizion for only $25 the battery may only last couple hours longer but does it really matter if you have 2 batteries?

Yeah stick with the iphone....

I figured you would. You hated the phone before it even came out. Were always negative nancy in the pre-release thread:eek:

First of all, no I wasn't. I was pragmatic, there is a difference. I think you're confusing me with someone else. I rode the roller coaster like everyone else. I just took the downs harder than others :)

The issue is very real, and for me it's a big deal. I watch a log of videos. I love everything else about the phone, I really do. But I'm not willing to watch horrible video quality every day and "live with it".

Well it is a phone. Then again I have a tablet if I want to watch movies and not be stuck on a small phone screen.

Seems a bit hypocritical to refuse to put your GNex in 3G, complain, then switch to a 3G phone...but whatever floats your boat.
yeah talk about a logic fail. At the least the op should have gotten an exchange or wait for the updates, kernels for improved battery life.
If you go in for an exchange, will that reset your 14 day return window or are you still locked in within that time frame?

Just found a thread about something similar on another device, and there is an app called screen adjuster. I bumped the contrast up to ~25% and the blue artifacts are GONE. Now the blacks aren't quite as black, but I'm ok with that! PHEW.

You are still locked in the time frame. It does not get extended.

Think I still need to break in my phone a bit as far as it getting used to the battery. Ran it until it shut off due to no power, put it in the charger, and within 3 minutes it was at 52%. Half an hour later, it wasn't much higher than 60%, that doesn't seem right.

Stock battery has been lasting me about 5 hours with heavy use, about 9 hours with light use.

I'm in the same boat with the OP. This phone is so amazing. I love it. However my battery life is abysmal, but I know better than to return it after a day (been using smartphones forever). Thursday night I put in my extended battery and charged overnight. Friday I took it off the charger and immediately turned off LTE. I set screen to 25% brightness, wifi on. I managed to kill the 2100mah battery in 10 hours (7am to 5pm). Screen time or actual usage was approximately 2.5 hours. Friday evening I took the phone back for an exchange due to the earpiece sounding like it was blown. So today I put brightness at 20%, LTE off, and this time no wifi to test out the 3G connectivity reliability. I took it off the charger at 9am and when I got home at about 7pm (again 10 hours) it was at 6% left and just under 2.5 hours of screen time.

So that is two phones with just about the same battery life on the 2100 extended. I put it on the charger just after 7pm and did a factory reset. I'm going to run the phone the next couple days without loading it up with all my stuff. I may not even put FB or anything on it. Just use it completely stock. I'm going to give it several days to see if the battery life improves due to the OS learning the battery or whatever it does after several cycles. If I don't see an improvement by Thursday, I'm going to exchange the extended battery. Then I will put it through its paces again for several days/cycles. All of this time I will keep LTE off permanently. I don't need it.

If I cannot get the 2100mah battery to last at least 16 hours of being off charger and about 5, preferably 6 hours of screen time, I have a decision to make. I absolutely do not want to return this phone. It's so incredible. As much as I love my iPhone 4, I love the Nexus more in its own way. If I can't get it to meet my day to day uses I'm so tempted to just reactivate my iP4 and use this as a mini-tablet. It's that awesome. My only other option is to get the iP4S but I can't see using an upgrade and paying $300 for basically a slightly better camera than my iP4 (I won't use Siri). I think I'd rather keep the Nexus as a mini-tab and also maybe with the development there will be a kernel or something that will dramatically improve battery life, then I can reactivate later. Decisions decisions.

I wouldn't even trust the battery meter after only a day or so of charge cycles. It may have been showing false low percentages, unless the device was actually dying on you.

I am getting longer battery life afted about 4 cycles of letting it discharge to under 20% and then charging 100% without disconnecting. Each time it seems to last a bit longer.

The battery life in any smartphone is not great especially in constant 4G.

My experience with the rezound centered around amazing battery life on 4g. My girl has the rezound. She made it through the entire day yesterday to 26% battery remaining. I have to charge the Nexus twice. We spent the entire day together. Similar usage.

I traded my rezound for an iPhone4s and I have the nexus as well. Battery life on the 4s is only slightly better than the Rezound. At this point nexus is getting killed in that dept. I'm waiting until Jan 14th before I make any decisions.

I would like to mention that not only did I feel like less of a man carrying around a White iPhone 4s but during the 2 days I was using it I believe my IQ dropped a few points.

Also, I noticed that while the phone is plugged in and charging, it doesn't charge at all with the screen on. Not sure if that is normal, or if the power it is taking in equals the power being used, or what the deal is.

All current LTE devices have awful battery life and to the point they are impractical to use beyond light use- unless plugged in.

I only use 4G if need to or when plugged in. For much better battery life, need to wait until late next year for the 28nm LTE chipped devices.
