I still don't understand Gmail...

I have all of my POP3 accounts checked by Gmail so everything will show up in its app on my phone. Fine. But I just received an email and was reading it. The phone rang. I took the call, and when I pulled up Gmail again, the message was gone. It's most likely something I've set up wrong, but it is absolutely maddening. How do I configure Gmail to show read messages in the Inbox?

I thought they did too, but this one vanished. I checked my PC's Thunderbird just to be sure I had "keep messages on server" enabled (I did). Oh well, chalk it up to gremlins. ;) Thx.

What gmail app are you using that is POP3? The gmail app uses iMap. Also I would login to your gmail from a web browser and search for the mail that got deleted. See if it's in the deleted folder.

Google itself tells you how to use either POP3 or IMAP for a different mail client on a help page. Aquamail can use POP3.

It's a function of Gmail itself called Mail Fetcher, not a particular app. It's explained here, which is probably the page referred to above.

@OP: if the email is still available on the original POP3 server then it may appear in Gmail when newer mail is synced across. If it doesn't, check the Gmail "bin" to see if it's been erroneously marked for deletion.

Yeah, I use the mail fetcher option for my POP3 accounts. I could also have those accounts forward mail to Gmail. Don't know if one way is better than another, but with Gmail grabbing the mail I can choose which account to use for composing and replying.

As for that one email, I did find it in Trash, hiding (must have swiped to delete accidentally). I forget Gmail combines conversations, so the original post was buried.
