download the apk from your device and install with astro or download via computer and move to sd card via usb and install.

I'd recommend just wiping everything and flashing it to Velocity .3 or one of the other fine roms located here.

To do this he would STILL have to get past this hurdle!

Yes, just download to your computer and move it to your SD Card, then get Astro File Manager off the market, use that to navigate to your sd card and install the file.

damnnnn!!!! lol if theres a way to do it through my phone that would be great instead of connecting a usb. im not teh greatest with all this technical stuff but i can do it with a good walk thru or explanation

I ran in to a similar problem, and this may have just been me, but I had to unroot --> reboot --> root --> reboot. When I didn't reboot in between, z4 would get stuck and just sit trying to re-root the phone.

The reason Universal androot doesn't work is because many paths for the system files changed with the update. You need the Z4Root.apk. It can be found on savoxis.com. And yes it can be downloaded from you're device. Just install with Astro and you will be fine.

Just download and save it from your phone. Then you won't need debugging or the usb cable at all. Install it with Astro file manager and the open the app. Once open you'll see the button to root the device. Just don't do the temporary root. You can always un-root and re-root with this app also.
