I thought other phone camera's were so much better than ours...?

I have both LG Dare and Inc for the past few month. LG Dare takes superior pictures. Not only that but indoors the LG Dare blows away the Inc with FAR superior low light performance which is due to the larger more sensitive pixels. Also LG Dare uses quality Schneider lens while the Inc is just a piece of clear plastic. Its obvious you and your friend know nothing about photography nor do you posses even a rudimentary understanding of basic camera settings and how to properly take a picture. Your friend probably had a screwed up LG Dare or settings out of whack. All I can recommend you to do is to get a education in how to use cameras.

As you can CLEARLY see the iphone samples are FAR superior with MUCH sharper image with less noise AND better color reproduction. The lower quality images from the Inc is due to the over crammed 8mp cmos sensor. That is exactly what happens when pixels become smaller. The smaller pixels the less sensitive they become to light and you can CLEARLY see this with the low light shots from the review.
 
SemiAntiConductor - I looked at the pictures from the site you linked. Frankly, I think it's pretty 50/50. In ALL 3 sections of pictures, sometimes the iPhone looked better, sometimes the DINC. There is no clear winner, at least IMO.


Besides, this is getting to be a pointless conversation. Like I clearly said in my first post, there are a TON of factor's to consider when comparing cameras that doesn't even have anything to do with the hardware! Two people standing side by side with the same camera will not be able to produce the same picture!

At the end of the day, all I know is what I have seen out in the real world. With regular people in regular situations using the camera stock. And what I have seen simply tells me that as far as camera phone's go, the Incredible and Galaxy X phones did a better job taking pictures than the Moto Droid, Droid X, iPhone 3 and iPhone 4. And I posted my own pictures to show where I get my opinions from.

So you are seriously telling me you would go with the data from someone at a wedding trying to take a pic with an iphone that has finger print smears over the lens vs a controlled testing environment specifically setup to test camera quality??? The iphone4 has the ability to take better pictures than the Inc. But when used by regular people, the Inc. takes better pics. Apple's slogan for why they're superior is "It just works". Well, in the case of Terabethia's wedding, the Inc. just works. What matters most is what the end user gets out of it. If they aren't able to reproduce reviewers' and photo savvy people's results, how does that make it better for them?

As with anything, specs on paper can sell products. But there is a reason that when buying a product, you should try it out first. Would you buy a car solely on specs and what it's capable of, but without test driving it?

As far as my picture taking, I have found (with the help of some of the members on this board) that by setting the camera to 5MP (plus a few other adjustments), it actually takes better pictures than at 8MP. I will agree all of these camera companies are getting MP crazy. But by adjusting a few settings you can get better results, just like being able to customize Android makes it a better experience.

1st let me start by saying congratulations!

I suggest some of you search for the evo camera apk and apply it to your incredible. It adds a shutter button to the screen which auto-focuses and snaps the picture without the amount of pressure required to press the optical button, thus keeping the camera from moving and no more burry pics.

It is a must have mod and makes picture taking on the Incredible 10x easier and reduces the need for multiple shots. I am not sure if it requires root or not. I'm sure someone smarter will post and let you know.

Isn't that the point of a camera on a phone? I mean seriously. If taking photos was a hobby or my job the crap you mention on here would matter to me. The truth is, you are wrong. You think you're smarter than you actually are and you are pissed that everyone on here recognizes that and don't let it fly. Put some proof in your pudding and post pics here from your Incredible and pics on here from your Dare side by side. I've seen it. The Dare wasn't screwed up, my Dare wasn't screwed up and my wife's Dare wasn't screwed up. Get a life. I own 2 Incredibles, I have 2 friends with Incredibles (at my suggestion) and I have owned 2 Dares in the past.

Absolutely, because it's REAL world, it's not "controlled". Do you take all of your pics in a controlled environment? I'm not saying that EVERY iPhone 4 will take photos like that, but the ones here did, didn't they? Fanboys, :rolleyes:

This here is exactly what I have been trying to say.

With some time and effort, I can make ANY of the current phones on the market take a decent picture. iPhone, DINC, Droid X, Fascinate, so on. Every one of these phones have camera settings, apps and APK's that you can apply to make the most out of the camera.

But that is NOT the point. The point is what the camera can and will do in real life settings. And real life is NOT someone sitting there messing with their settings and app's to get it just right and then take a picture.

The point of a camera phone is to take quick pictures on the fly. You're at a party and your friend is doing something silly and you need to snap a quick picture. You are out walking on a trail and see a dozen baby deer grazing in the field and want to snap a quick picture. You stop at the bank and see 2 men run out in ski masks and need a picture of their get away car (and YES, I have been in that situation!) All of these moments are ones where you don't have time to sit there and mess with things because you'll miss the photo opportunity by the time you are done.

When I am doing something where I know I want good pictures (sight seeing, traveling, special events, etc), my phone stays in my pocket and I use my real camera. But for those quick "oh look, my friend is drunk and hitting on a barstool!" I whip out the phone real quick.

At the end of the day, I don't care which camera phone "should" be better based on it's hardware and software. I only care what the camera phone does when I go to use it and have 5 seconds to open the camera app and snap the photo.

And before you go dissing my picture examples any further, every single person at my wedding are responsible mature adults. These were not pictures from some 12 year old that smeared their dirty fingers on a phone that they don't even know how to use.

that would make a great "priceless" ad!
I agree with you re the avg person taking pics.
If it works for you , it works (regardless of what camera spec's say should happen)

*hint for the newlywed, don't have all those camera phones at your honeymoon

I am pretty happy with the Dinc camera overall. It does the trick when I need to take a quick photo, but my wife's Palm Pre+ seems to take better images. In fact, that is the only thing that piece of crap can do well.

The iphone situation (made pre-nuptials) is probably the only concession Tera will need to make in a long and happy marriage :D:D:D
 
Congrats! I've had similar experiences with friends when we all took a pic of something with our phones.

And as far as the Dare camera, it absolutely sucks at low light pics so credibility is nil after that statement. That was an ongoing discussion since the phone came out I got a Dare a day or two after it came out and had it til the day the Incredible was released. Even in good light conditions it would give a grainy look to the pics. It worked good for what it was though, but in my experience with both phones the Incredible takes far cleaner pics.

Thank God my new husband shares my dislike for Apple :D We are both in the IT field so we are both pretty nerdy!

We have already agreed that no money will ever be spent to help out Mr. Jobs. Just ain't gonna happen! I do my best to talk my friends out of those bad choices but at the end of the day, it's their money and their choice. I just sit back and laugh at them when their phone drops out mid-call ;)

I have never had a Blackberry, though my boss tried to give me one once. I handed it right back to him and said give me another phone or I'll just use my own phone for business.

I do have a friend that got one and that night we were out at a bar and she was trying to send a text. All of a sudden she slams the thing on the table and shreked a little. I asked what was wrong and she said "my smart phone is NOT very smart!!" 2 days later she traded it in for something that didn't send her blood pressure through the roof ;)

My wife and I have this conversation quite often. I'm a photography "nerd" and work all day with film and she.... well... she isn't.

Her "awesome" is my "ehhhhh."


Regardless, some phones are better for the average users snapshots than others (as you already know)!


... and there comes the photography nut in me....

But... I thought the iphone was the best? So now the Epic is the best? I would assume they used each of the phones with stock settings (8MP on the Incredible), so maybe if you'd try dialing it back down to 5MP, you could get results the same as their winner.

I also find it interesting to note that they said "The iPhone 4 and the HTC Incredible are definetely worth mentioning for doing a stellar job as well, and though the Incredible didn't formally win, it still comes loaded with a staggering amount of camera features, which we thought was cool." So maybe the Incredible is not so bad afterall.
 
First of all, congratulations!

Second of all, I agree that the Incredible has a pretty good camera. I powered up my LG Dare today and took a couple pictures, literally seconds apart. Each phone had the default settings enabled.

Guess which phone took which picture.

(Here's a hint, the Incredible didn't take the first picture.)

I actually burst out laughing when someone suggested that the Dare took better pictures than the Incredible.
 
First off, Congratulations!

Second, I have a totally off topic (it has to do with optics) thing to say that may make some of you laugh:

I work in a Chemical Engineering lab, and one of the machines we have is a UV-VIS. It is basically a colorimeter that also measures does UV (If you did not read the link, it measures how much light of a certain wavelength passes through a sample, and thus you can see how much of a certain constituent is in that sample). Now, the plastic we use for the vessels to hold the sample absorbs almost 100% starting at wavelengths less than 350 nm or so. Any chem student knows this (they say it many times in the intro lab course, and it is posted on the packaging of the cuvette).

Apparently, his sample was to be tested for absorbance in the UV range, and he used the plastic cuvette. For 2 whole weeks he went around telling people he had isolated a pure compound from what was really a 2 % or so mixture without doing anything...essentially alchemy. Then, someone gave his a quartz cuvette while I gave him a quick lesson on the quantum mechanics of the plastic. That was possibly the funniest thing I (or anyone else in the lab) had seen.

The point is that although amateurs may do something badly, it is not necessarily an accurate representation.
