Schools out and I have no life so I wanted to start making roms just for the heck of it.....I couldnt find any threads on just making roms based on 2.3.x or whatever and I just wanted to know like

  1. Do I need Ubuntu
  2. What programs do I need
  3. Does anybody know any good guides/video tutorials
  4. And maybe some tips from the pros....

So...yeah :D

  1. Do I need Ubuntu - No but most guides on setting it up for android Dev use ubuntu. I use Mint 13 ;)
  2. What programs do I need - Android Kitchen, APK Manager (Its very helpful to learn what these do behind the scenes ;)) , Android-SDK, JavaJDK.
  3. Does anybody know any good guides/video tutorials - google and XDA are your friends ;)
  4. And maybe some tips from the pros.... - PATIENTS, and LOTS OF!!! ;)

School starts Aug 28 for me.. I'm going for a bachelors in software development and engineering. I'm so friggen excited! I can't wait to start producing actual quality material! :D

Okay its official...my goal is to be able to build an awesome rom by the time I graduate high school...when school starts again ill be a junior so there is an idea on how much time I have left lol

Cool if you have any pointers or web pages or anything that you know about that could get this noob up and going PLEASE lemme know:D

ive also expressed interest into developing roms and i have the free time to learn but as a student ive had the change to take an entire semester of web design and some computer programming but i remember how i hated it!! all that coding was frustrating, if one thing was off then everything wouldnt work... i also remember times where ive had the code PERFECTLY but it wouldnt come out the way it was supposed to so i had to move things around and actually mess up the code to get it to show right -__- i just cant do that again plus i do have the time right now but i might not have the time when school starts as senior with 9 classes, 4 being honors classes and 1 AP class....

Yo Dharp U need any help ill pm u were u talk to me and pg But pg isnt there for the moment i am so u need any help just tell me ;) and ill pm u were to go so we could talk

I wouldn't use 12.04 for building roms. 10.04 is what Google recommends. Btw you will need 64bit if your building gb+. Mind you im talking about building from source

The only ppl that say Google is your best friend is the ppl that already know how to code.... It's extremely hard to learn how to make roms from Google tutorials because most of them require previous experience in coding and what not. I'm sure that there might be some tutorials that might be decent and show you how to do everything step by step, but I doubt they would show up as a first search result on Google.

Kay...so like should I downgrade to 10.idontremember or keep 12.04...I just really wanna contribute to the community lol
