I wanna see your tattoos!!!

Just to give you ideas:

My brother-in-law has two very large tattoos on his legs. One is a Merry Go Round that circles his lower leg and starts just above the ankle going up to just under the knee. It has his daughter/my nieces name on it. She is now 18 and over the years he has had horses, unicorns and pegasus added. The picture shows a different stage of her life and contains something she was interested in at the time. An example would be the 16 year old tat is of a mustang and has the Ford logo on its side because they spent the previous 5 years working together to restore one from 68 or 69 before he gave it to her on her birthday.

On his other leg he has a train circling up starting at a tunnel by his ankle and headed for a tunnel near his knee. The train has cars behind it and each one is filled with different things that his son/my nephew has been interested in. He started with trains when he was two so the engine has a number two on it. At six he was into Legos like my son is now and he has a car full of them. Like the one before he plans to fill up the freight cars with important things or major events in his son's life.

That's really cool & creative. Next time you see him, can you take pictures of his tat? If it's not any time soon...ask him to email them to you so you can post it here :D I soooo want to see them!!!

I'll try to remember to do that. I haven't even seen them in 2 years.

being this is a perminate thing on your body... why skimp on the artist? find the best.

True story. My best friend's son (16 years old) wanted a tattoo, and she wouldn't give permission. Not that she didn't want him to have one, but she wanted him to wait til he was 18. Anyway, he found some random kid in his neighborhood with a tattoo gun and gave him $25 and got a tattoo in the kid's kitchen. So many things wrong with that sentence, I can't even begin. And guess what? It LOOKS like a $25 tattoo. My friend is L-I-V-I-D.:mad::mad:

You can't just go to anyone to do something permanent on you and expect greatness. I was able to first check out the artist work in person. Not just a photograph but him actually doing a tattoo. While I knew the Owner of the Shop would not hire a slouch I still wanted to make sure that this guy was going to give my tattoo the attention it deserved. After All I'm dropping a chunk of change into this (Faery cost me $300) Which not only did he pretty much come up with but also charged me less than normal for the tat. 1 it was a tat he's always wanted to do (not the exact but one like it) and 2. Me being friends with the owner didn't hurt :)

I also talked to him about care of the tat before I got it. I think it is important that you get where their knowledge skills are. I asked him questions like how long have you been putting on tats, How many big tats have you done? what was the easiest one / the hardest one? How many were you disappointed in. I talked with him a few times before we ever sat down to start work. It's something I highly recommend to anyone getting a tat or thinking about it. We also talked about pain and the intensity of pain I should expect. The only real pain I had from that one though was really during the last 1.5 hours of the color and shading. There was so much and he was doing a good job of killing my leg :) We were really trying to save from doing a third session on which also kept the cost down.

I have a Pink Floyd tattoo in mind for my next one which I am thinking I'll do on the opposite leg. I just need to come up with the money. So if everyone here will donate to me 5 American dollars I will get the pictures posted as soon as the work is done. :) If I have any money left over then we will start my sleeve :) PM me for the addy :D

Please keep the ink coming I love viewing ink. Also tell us your best and worst experience with them? This was one of my best stories. I have a few that I did with india ink, weed, and Alcohol. They look it too :banghead:

Don't have to worry about doing that again. I quite drinking 14 years ago and smoking weed about 7 years ago and ciggs 3 years ago.

That is so sad, but so common.

A friend of mine went with me when I was getting the finishing touches on one of my tattoos (extra line work and a ton of shading/color). He was really interested in getting one and wanted to see what it was like. I suggested that he come watch and see what he thought, but I also told the artist that I may have a referral with me at the time of my appointment and asked him to leave some time for consulting when we were finished (he gets booked 2 years in advance most of the time so very busy guy). So when we were all finished he listened to my friend and quoted him $175 an hour for the tattoo (almost a half sleeve) with a min of 3 to 4 hours work. At dinner my friend told me that he thought the price was outrageous and said he would find someone else. 3 weeks later I saw him and he showed me the tattoo he was so proud of and it was hideous. The line work was God awful and wasn't even straight in some places. It was really thick in some and far too thin in others. I felt so bad for him, but couldn't say anything since he was so proud of it. He told me that he ended up paying $200 for the whole thing (this seriously was almost a half sleeve...for $200) and kept going on and on about how overpriced some tattoo artists were.

BTW, anyone in, around or near Atlanta may want to check out http://www.inkanddaggertattoo.com/artists

It amazes me how some people can't see the difference between a good tattoo and a bad one. But I think once you GET a really good one, it makes you notice the bad ones more.

I agree 100%. I've seen some really horrible work around here. There are too many tattoo shops and not enough good artists to go around. I'm really glad my very first one was on the bad side. The amount of pain I felt and how poorly it looked made me realize that you can't put a price on quality work. Russ, the guy I linked to in my previous post, is a mad genius with a tattoo gun and doesn't allow anyone in his shop who isn't on par with his work. I've seen his whole portfolio (not just the online stuff) and the only reason he doesn't have some stuff online is because the picture didn't turn out. I've yet to see him do a bad tattoo.

One of my tattoos was done in a kitchen of a friend of a friend. I saw a lot of other tattoos he did first though and mine was actually the last tattoo he did before going to California to work at a nice tattoo shop that he had already been hired at. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out (just needs filled in a little, but that is it).

Moral of the story is you need to see their art before you get a tattoo regardless of the cost or location. The my biggest, most colorful tattoo I only paid about $300 for even though it was around 20 hours of work and 3 sittings. I am EXTREMELY happy with it and fully expected to pay $1000+ for it, but a co worker at the time hooked me up with one of his friends that was an artist. BTW this is the same artist I will be going back to for any future tattoos!

A good artist looking for a home is a different story. I've met a bunch of guys and girls working out of their kitchen that do great work. Most of them are just waiting for the right shop to work at and didn't buy a tattoo gun off ebay. A lot of times you can get great work done for a lower price since they don't have the shop overhead to deal with too. Great ink is great ink is great ink. It is just sad when people put a price on something that will potentially last longer than they will.

I look at it this way I don't go to the flea market and expect to get a Van Gogh. Not to say they can't have one but chances are very slim. In the end it goes back to why are you getting a tattoo? Are you doing it because you enjoy displaying and admiring the work. Or are you doing it just to have them to make you look like someone your not (AkA Billy the Baddass) I'm into it for the enjoyment I get from them. Each has a story to tell me / remind me of. A quality tattoo will last as long as you take care of it. A tattoo that has no quality will not last because chances are if it didn't mean enough to you to spend the money to do it right then its not going to mean enough to you to properly take care of. I'll try to get some of my other ink loaded up later on this evening I'll be on the phone the rest of the day. Yall Have a GREAT day

I happen to live in the #3 "Most Tattooed City in America" (second only to Miami and Las Vegas according to the Today Show). Actually, I live just south, but in the small adjacent city I live in, we have 8 tattoo parlors in an 8 square mile area.

+1 When my tattoo artist was just starting out, I got him to re-color one of my older tattoos at his house. Still great work (though probably not the most comfortable environment for him to work in without his shop set-up).
Here's some of his work: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.104443462993975.5074.100002849656677&type=3

WTF >_>;;; Kids are really stupid :< He's going to regret that rash decision for the rest of his life...unless he pays thousand of dollars to get it removed.

That's great!!! Congrats on all 3 achievements

I saw this tattoo and I like it

I thing angel wings are pretty, lol. Though you basically need to go topless to show off the tattoo, lol.

Is it me, or does it seem like the word "do" should be in there? Otherwise, it's a cool concept...but I'm sure wearing a bra while that's healing wouldn't be much fun.

Wearing a bra with anything on your sides or back doesn't feel good. When I got the tattoo on my side I wore a sports bra for a few weeks.

Yeah, there should be a 'do' in there. I didn't pay attention. I was just looking at the wings, lol.

Wings are something a lot of artists don't do well. Those look pretty good, though.

I lied about posting my other tatts I have to get pics of them first :D though I had some but cant seem to find them. Maybe can make that a weekend project.

Love the Wings they are nice doing as far as the saying or the question It goes to show how important it is to pay attention to all the details. I mean what a great tatt but it is cheapened by the fact that its missing something. I can't blame the artist for that either. Anytime I have done a tatt he has made me go look at it show it to someone else see if it needs anything before he starts. So if I'm not happy about something then its my fault. If something is missing its my fault. Ultimately we are the ones responsible to make sure they are giving us what we want.
