Root I would like something better than 2.1

I have been on 2.1 forever. I like what I am using in Gingeritis SD v1.0 and have it all backed up. I have also been out of the loop for a little bit here. I have no problems reading and catching up, Which I will do.

But in the meantime can I get some suggestions about upgrading and something that runs just as good as what I have now? I have a few things that I need to use that will not work on 2.1 and need to go higher. But I would like whatever I use to be as good as what I am using now.
( by the way. I did not likethe update for Gingeritis )

might try one of the th3ory roms,i like them alot. theyre fast, smooth and stable. also checkout the synergy nightlys. ive not used them yet,but heard good reports, and loved virus's inital "airborne" rom,hes an awsome developer.

I'd recommend CM7 over Liquid for non sense ROMs. Mainly because it's a lot more polished and there's more support for it

I installed a couple Rome and updated radios. But when I go into "about phone" it still says 2.1 version. Therefore I still can not run the apps I set out for by changing tons because they say they require a higher version. I guess I'm confused. Could someone shed a little light for me please?

now im a little confused... what apps are you unable to run?

th3ory is based on our 2.3.4 leak,so you should be able to run any apps you want. 2.1 is simply the sense version and should affect anything as far as apps.

the synergy rom is sense 3.0,and bamf has a sense 3.0 as well,if thats what youre after. both of these are android 2.3.4 as well.

The biggest one is the Ivon text speech. I drive alot and lik e the option of hearing it speak to me through my system while I cant hold the phone. the only way to get the option for the driving options is to have it higher than 2.1

Never have used it. I dont know if there is anything else that would work with it. My last phone had it built in. And I have been missing it ever since.

whart phone was that?

im still a lil confused,as ive never heard of an app needing a sense version of 2.1 or higher. but if this is the case,id try bamf 3.0 or synergy as they are sense 3.0,wich is definately higher.

what happened when you tried to run the app on gingeritus or bamf 2.1?

As Scotty said, I believe you're confusing Sense 2.1 with Froyo 2.2 or Gingerbread 2.3. I've never heard of an app (outside of a sense only system app) needing a specific version of Sense to work. If you have flashed Theory and Synergy you are running Gingerbread. It's really important to get the build numbers of the OS correct.

It tells me that I can not run it on the 2.1 sense version. Even though The Synergy ROM says it is 3.0. So I got to software information on the phone and it says. HTC Sense Version 2.1, Regardless of the ROM I am using. The Radio Is updated the kernels are updated So I do not know.

I can use Handcent after looking through the settings. When A text comes in I do have to hit the speaker to have it read. It is better than nothing, But It would be great if it just read aloud when the text comes in.

As for what phone I used before that had it built in. It was only an LG Envy Touch. Doesnt really compare. It was just a great option I used a bunch!

UPDATE:
I installed Ivona again on Synergy. There is an area when I go into the setting for this app. It is grayed out. This area is for car options. This is where I am suppose to set it up foir the dock and have it answer automatic when a text comes in and read it to me. I try to click on this and it tells me, I have to have higher than 2.1 . So if i have synergy ROM and updated the Radio and have sense 3.0. Why wouldnt this work? And again, I go to the setting on my phone and read the software info in " about phone" It says HTC Sense 2.1 Everything else works great on this phone. So I give up on it. Just thought I would share this strange situation and hope someone would know something.

You might want to try tasker. I believe you can set it up to read texts to you, I am not 100% sure because I don't want my phone to do so
