i put this on the samsung mobile forum

has the 2.1 update been released any where yet

there reply

Hello.

Android 2.1 update has already been release in some european countries. The Kies software will be the one that does the update and not Pc Studio 7, as some websites incorrectly reported

There is not an official Uk date for this yet, but the wait should not be long :)

How can the update be via kies when kies doesn't support update?

At the moment, only NPS supports update (and nothing else).

Truly the samsung PC/Android support is horrible.

I no that's why I've asked them why dose it tell you to use nps to update then after you can use kies on the samsung web sites

Hi all, it does seem to be causing some frustration this waiting around for 2.1 on the i5700 (me to!). I only know of one genuine 2.1 update by someone in Germany (Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica: After official 2.1. update *NO* copy protected apps in market - Android Market Help) - and got-petrol does as well as I posted a duff reply (!) in the middle of the thread.

Anyway's - seems NPS is the one that works (1.5) and it's all down to Samsung making an update server available. They have officially said it's coming via the press release and we don't have any reason not to believe them. It's just a matter of sitting tight. As far as I am aware, all Android phones do not have PC software - so apart from this update process the software is redundant - but Samsung are pretty poor communicators (their forum is evidence of this).

But I must say even with Android 1.5 I'm really impressed with the i5700. All the functionality of a top end smartphone and really cheap (I paid

im happy with my phone it blows this a way

Hey all, new here and new to the smartphone world. I've had my Galaxy Spica for 2 weeks now and I was wondering if, when the time comes, updating to Android 2.1 would wipe my Apps and their info and also, if there are any good backup utilities for the phone.

Thanks a lot! It's nice to see so many people are waiting for this update, though I wish it were here a lot faster!

It is always good to opt for fresh install of apps after upgrade instead of pulling it back from backup.

Recently i had a bad experience with my blackberry.
Before upgrading the OS blackberry have an option to backup all apps and apps-data. I opted for it and later it restored all data automatically after the upgrade. Then to my surprise phone itself stopped booting with an error "Incompatible application"

So better reinstall the apps because most of them have different version to work with 2.1.

When the update does finally come, how big is it going to be (in KB or MB) to download?

And how long does the update process take?

Hi folks,
is there anyone from India who has been successful in installing PC studio and getting their phones detected. I hav downloaded various verions of PC studio and USB drivers since yesaterday and i dunno how to undo it and start over again. ITts all a mess. :-(:confused:

For me, the only way was to unistall everything from Samsung in add/remove programs & install the version on the CD that came with the phone.

this is what I did was turn the phone off and plug it into usb and turn it on and see if any thing gets install

on your phone goto settings->About phone->Additional settings-> uncheck Mass Storage only. This is what helped me. I am using NPS 1.4.0 IL2

go to configuration panel > software and delete everything phone related
(mostly with samsung as manufactor but mine also listed a nokia driver oO)
you don't have to uninstall kies / NPS, running either one again will try to install the drivers again.

Kies only managed to install the right ones here.
Unfortunately Kies does not support the phone on 1.5 so ...

Same here :(

I think they got 2.1 all ready installed on the phone if you look at the video you can see the box in the back ground

I bought new Spica with I5700XXJB4/7 firmware last week (25th March), so if it isn’t an official firmware what I should do? I wrote to Samsung by ERMS form and they said I should send my phone to repair and I can lost my guarantee because of unauthorized changes in phone’s firmware. But I did nothing. My phone had this version out-of-the-box. I bought new one from GSM operator in Cracow and seals wasn’t broken.
