Root Icarus to CM7

So, what's the upgrade path from Icarus to CM7? Do I need to upgrade CWM? If I do upgrade CWM would my backups of stock and Icarus still work, or are they dependent on the version of CWM?

You can flash all the roms with the 2.XXX cwm. Icarus is the only rom that needs a specific cwm.

Why would you leave Icarus?
Cause its 2.1, you like windows 98?

You have to excuse Dubstep, he couldnt for the life of him get CM7 running right and blames it on CM7 and not on himself or wtfe he has flash his phones for him.

imod is good tho, but its still just a stripped down stock 2.1 rom with some nice features added.

CM6/7 gives you more of what most what out of their phones and some nice eye candy too boot.

There us no upgrade path to follow, just choose which ROM you want to try out and follow a good guide to help you learn the process. If you installed icarus yourself, then cm6/7 should be no problem for you at all. That is unless you had some boob down the street do it for you that is lol

LOL. Sorry that's all I can say....Boob down the street....*Dies of laughter*...

I'm using CWM 2.5.1.8 for CM7. :]

I did it myself. It didnt have data even with wifi the first time. So i put my stock back up into play. Then he next day (on the bus to work) I flashed Icarus again and data worked. :)

+1

what he said!!! its best to install and try out the roms and pick and choose what suites you...

So I tried installing CM7. It didn't take.

As the CM7 thread said it's now being released through Rom Manager. I installed it and flashed the newer CWM. Then downloaded CM7 and installed it. It took 45 minutes to install. Then booted directly back into CWM. I installed the Gapps then rebooted. It was stuck on the screen saying "Android" for over an hour. I gave up and pulled the battery, and restored my Icarus backup.

Any ideas if it was user error or just my phone?

Don't know what could have caused it but it should not take 45 mins to install. I did a back up and full install in about 10mins. So you should probably try again and if it is taking that long try to do it manually.

Well thanks to Rom Manager, I do have the zip for the rom on my sd card. I'll do it manually later. I'm annoyed with my phone at the moment. :P

Well I tried to manually install CM7 and it didn't take. It was same as before.

I deleted the zips for Cm7 and Gapps off my sd card. Then tried again from Rom Manager. Now it's telling me I need the paid version of Rom Manager to download it.

Guess I'm staying with Icarus.

Which version of cm7 are you trying to install? You may have whats called a lazy ascend. Try the new 05142011 build. Also if rom manager is failing you just use cwm and a card reader<----took me all but 10 minutes. Make sure to do a full wipe including dalvic when switching roms. I hope this helps.

Now I have a problem I can't solve and I've spent more than an hour reading threads that sound similar.

Problem is the same on 2 Windows 7 machines. One 32 bit, the other 64 bit.

I can't mount my phone using usb. I plug it in and I see a "cd drive" with "0 bytes free of 348 KB". Inside is 1 file named DUMMY. I go in and I pull down the notification bar, click use usb storage or whatever it says. In my computer the "cd drive" it appeared as with the dummy file is replace with another "cd drive" that I can't open. It says it's corrupt or something.

Thing is, I know the SD card works. I can access it with file manager. If my MicroSD adapter would work I could test it as I have an SD card reader.

I've read maybe 5-10 threads with the same problems. It seems some people had similar problems and they were fixed with one of the recent builds of CM7.

I'm at a loss here. It's aggravating that I can't mount it to transfer files.

Guess for the time being I'm dropping back to Icarus.
