Root Ice cream sandwich...possible ROM for Desire?

title says it all really....I'm not after info bout an official update...cos well, we know HOW long that takes :D

but does anyone know if the guys like Leedroid or Rich with GV will do a ICS ROM...or if its even possible for the now quite old (yet nowhere near dead) Desire to run it?

We need sources to be released. Some xda members believe the devs can port from the sdk but I don't see how. How will they get a compatible kernel ?!

well heres hoping to them releasing source...I for one really want ICS on the desire...it does seem to be quite a change compared to froyo upping to gingerbread style...which really wasn't much...least not on top of things.

My Desire shipped with eclair. Its gone up to froyo, gb, now on a custom ROM with bits of sense 3.0 and still going strong - though now a bit battered around the edges! Chuffed to think there is a chance for a piece of ICS as well! Made the right choice getting this.

It is going to be an interesting few weeks/ months once the devs get something to get their teeth into.

Should be released before the end of the year, according to google. December, probably.

EDIT to clarify, I mean the source code.

Yeah, there's a difference between someone trying to make a ROM from the SDK and building from source.

We know the source will be made public. An N1 build will certainly help with drivers. So I think it's reasonable to expect that we will have ICS (or, being British, should I say "Choc Ice"?) ROMs this year. But I'm not going to flash something patched together from the SDK - I may treat this thing as a development project, but I do value stability highly!

But once the code hits the repository it won't take long. Be interesting to see how it works on the Desire, but I'm sure it will work. Maybe more of a challenge to HTC, who've invested heavily in an overlay, but that's not our problem.

No its not a chock ice. It's two soft wafers with ice scream in the middle. I'm trying to think of the brand I have had

This is what we're looking at

This has been bugging me ever since ICS was announced; can you buy ice cream sandwiches in the uk? I've got a craving to try it but I've never seen them here.
