Root ICS Developement: End User Discussion

zachavm

Android Enthusiast
So as not to interfere with the developement thread, I thought it would be nice to have an end user discussion on the work they are doing.

I have to say, they are making incredible headway. Just in the last week they've gotten several things working and it seems they are turning the corner on others. The phone looks to be working and Data may be coming soon. With such great work going on, maybe we could get on the official CM distribution when CM9 goes final.

They are doing an amazing job to be able to get ANYTHING working with out the source code. It seems they are working so well together and able to really cooperate and help each other.
Thanks to all you guys who are putting so much time and effort into this.

We have the source code (except a few binary drivers), just no instruction manual to go with it :)

Wifi working and i swear ill pay for a prealpha xD

i just wanna use my new onlive controller since my laptop is ****ed..

but noooo you need android 4.0 or above WHICH THEY JUST CHANGED

said it worked with every version of android -.- liars!

lol. That's the only thing you care about right now huh? :D

I have a question... when ics eventually does become a daily driver like cm7, will we have the option to use the face unlock? Or is that exclusive to galaxy nexus?

YES!!! Dx

lol its like... not being able to game sucks! I dont care if its on a 4.3 inch screen.. i just wanna sit and relax playing just cause 2 when i want where i want..

but seriously big ups to all the devs on the rom.. its amazing what they are doing..

(someone other than my buddy marc :P) the question I have is that when i connect my controller in MIUI it Pairs but doesnt connect... other people on the Onlivefan forums have had it pair and connect to CM7 (Gingerbread doesnt support controllers) but the app itself doesnt recognize the controller.. It works in ICS flawlessly for others.. so im just worried that since it doesnt even connect in MIUI will it Pair and connect in ICS? or is not connecting at all a bad BT omen? but it pairs so thats a good thing right?

can i maybe have a dev answer on this one?

its a long question but i just wanna be sure

I'm answering it still... Flash to cm7 and see if it connects and/ or stock. If it connects to one of those then it shouldn't be a problem. If it needs bluetooth 3.0 on the other hand your screwed, since we only have version 2.1.

oh great.. that makes me feel better =/ it better connect with 2.1 im not seeing anything that it requires 3.0 alot of devices that its been tested on have 3.0 but i dont see why it would require it..

EDIT: Works with an HP touchpad which only has 2.1!!! and CM9/ICS THANK GOD!! :D

I'm pretty sure it's an Android 4.0 feature, not just a Galaxy Nexus feature. As long as the front camera works, I would think that feature would be usable.

For me it's probably hardware acceleration, UI tweaks and the minor features like multiple Gtalk accounts support, awesome browser with multiple tabs, Chrome bookmark sync, offline page saving, Gmail app's new features, etc. Oh and also the music player on lockscreen and notification bar. And the notification bar becoming much much better.

Which ICS feature are you most excited about?

HOPEFULLY if its not part of Android 4.0 already, cyanogen will add it as standard support like they did with CM7

bluetooth input devices like mouse and keyboard.

cm7 can see a mouse natively and bring up a mouse cursor to navigate, and BT keyboard support has been in android for awhile.

I would love to just plug my triumph into my PC monitor over HDMI (like i do currently) and turn on my mouse and KB and start using it like that. a makeshift desktop pc.

cmon that would be pretty cool. think of it, the phones hardware is already capable, the problem is no HDMI in cm7, and no BT mouse support in froyo.

my one hope is that, in time, ICS will let these work in harmony.

also, Since one of ICSs defining features is resizing interface elements to different resolutions, (unifying phone and tablet apps and all that jazz) that the hdmi output can be TRUE 720 or 1080p, and the entire android interface would be re-drawn to fit. instead of blown up 480p resolution the froyo roms do now (which isnt HORRIBLE, but it sucks knowing the S2 Snapdragon is capable of much more than that.)

ICS has periferal support... At least for tablets which mean if cm7 doesn't have it built in it shouldn't be too hard to add support. Then you would be able to use usb devices (with a OTG adapter of course). Hopefully that will be supported for phones because that would be awesome to be able to use USB devices! :D

You should get the Vizio Stream Player with Google TV when it releases soon. It features Vizio Internet Apps which now has full feature OnLive!, you get the Android Market, and it also comes with a built in Chrome Browser. The remote features full QWERTY on its backside and a small touch pad on the front. Guess the Price??? $99 I'm gonna try and be one of the first to get one! Vizio got me with that price, they even have a Hulu app. Hands down the best Google TV (mainly because of OnLive).

I would love one of those but seen as i spend 50$ on that controller.. im a mobile gamer.. wherever whenever.. plus i dont use my tv all that much with HDMI support my phone becomes the same thing lol.. But thanks that looks pretty cool :D forward me the 99$ ;3 and ill get one with ya! But for now ill have to school you on my phone with onlive :D

That it could be built without having to use ubuntu
I am a pure debian sid guy ;)
You can build form source using any distro you want. It's just the guides are written for Ubuntu. If you know your way around debian, I am sure you can figure it out. Being that they both use the same package management system (apt), it shouldn't be hard to get the stuff you need from those guides.

The OnLive controller is compatible with it, you'll need one to play OnLive on the Vizio Stream Player anyway, unless you're using an XBOX 360 USB controller. It's basically a complete OnLive gaming system, a complete Google TV, and a Vizio Internet Apps player. You'll never find all of that for $99. I would forward you the money if I had a money tree. And you schoolin' me on your Phone is fair enough, if it does ever work with our phone :p

Oh it is.. Bluetooth 2.1 is compatible with it just need the OS to follow. 4.0 only so that means ICS WHICH IS SO CLOSE I CAN TASTE IT!! nom nom nom

:D

You know you could just use the onscreen controls :p. Maybe it would be near impossible, but until ICS is out it would do wouldn't it?

Ha man I kept thinking why is this guy so upset over our phones not using this onlive thing untill I looked into what it was and now I'm right next to you hoping this will work soon. I had not read about it before but wow. I'm sold.
