ICS is here!

If you use a google account, then your contacts should be synced again when you setup your gmail account. You will lose music, videos, books, etc., but they are easy to replace or drag/drop back onto the Tab. And you will need to download your apps again.

But it means you wipe away any issues and start clean again. I always do a reset with a major OS update. It's a bit of a hassle, but once you do it, you learn how easy it is to configure it. For me, it only takes 15mins or so to setup again from scratch. It takes a little longer to copy my music and videos back, but I can watch a Seinfeld episode when doing that.
:D
I also have other non google accounts that I've forgotten the passwords to.

Btw, is it possible to miss the update completely? That doesn't seem logical, I only bring it up because two different people here said they got the notification but instead of starting the update they rebooted or something, and then the notification was gone.
That's not unusual. The update notification should return when your Tab does an automatic checkin.

Great, do know or have you heard when it will be released in Canada?
If you have the WiFi model, I believe the US version is the same.

If you have the 3G model from Rogers/Bell/Telus then it's not available yet as the carriers will be customizing the apps and settings for their own uses. Current timelines puts the update later this month or September for some.

I have the 3G model and I used Odin to flash the UK version on mine. It works great (both 3G and WiFi) and it doesn't have any of the Rogers bloatware apps, bookmarks, or settings. It's the Tab I always wanted.
:D

Did a factory reset and still no dice.

Those of you with the WiFi models getting the OTA, are your units retail or Google I/O edition?

I have the Google I/O edition and tried everything aside from KIES to get it to update.

I just have the wifi model thanks

Have you tried Odin and flashing the firmware directly to the device? That's what I did to get a UK version firmware on my Canadian Tab.

From what I understand, the I/O edition is the same hardware, just different shell to make it a limited edition version.
But you should confirm that before flashing a regular firmware on it.

I just flash my us version I had previously flash the UK and one thing missing out of US version that I just notice is S planner APk. I have the Widgets but no apk which I loved using instead of the widget

Thank you for your reply. I have the wi fi model, not tied to any carrier. I am a real newbie when it comes to android, what is odin???

Thanks

Loving ICS... but I have been noticing one issue since I did the update.

Anyone else experiencing video playback that hiccups a bit in ICS where it didn't do that in Honeycomb?

I've noticed the choppiness in a few of my movies. Every 30 sec or so the video stutters a bit...

Any fix suggestions?

I just used kies to download the ICS, it worked perfect, it took me about 15 minutes and I restored my music, apps, pics, videos with Kies.
I just want to know how can I erase some annoying apps that are added, like "Music Hub", they are stubborn and don't want to be erased.
Overall I love ICS sofar. I had it on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone.

Cleared my Google services framework data, but still no ICS update. It did prompt my to check for updates, but then said none where available. Have not tried Kids yet, but am guessing us Canadians are just going to have to wait for a bit.

I have the U.S wifi only 32gb version and did the check for update ota and recieved nothing. tried kies and nothing. is it suposed to already be out to every wifi only tablet in the U.S already.

thanks

Surprised you didn't get the update using Kies.
After doing a reset on the tab, and installing the latest version of Kies on my computer, my tab connected and I got the update available box in Kies right away. I also have the US, 32g wifi only.
Don't know if the roll out is complete, I doubt it. But is it ever complete?
At some point it should be available to everyone.
The US version is up on the Sammobile site if you want to flash it using Odin.

I just logged on to this forum to post about another issue and saw this. I have the I/O version and haven't got an update. I guess I'll have to wrestle with getting Kies working to see if I can update that way. ICS is way, way better than HC that is for sure.

Been running ICS for a few days now. I'm on the 16GB wifi only UK model.

ICS is great, much smoother than HC. The Tab generally seems to perform much nicer, so it will be great to see what happens if they get Jelly bean on it. But for now ICS is fine. I gave the new TouchWiz launcher a go, and it's an improvement on the HC version but I still find GoLauncher for tablets to be much better.

I really had no issues with HC, but yeah, ICS is certainly a boost.
Enjoying the tab even more.
I've been using Nova launcher for the last few days. Very cool.

On first blush, I am not a fan of the ICS update at all. It wiped out all my home screens and set all of them back to default. WTF??? So I went to try to put them back together from memor and found that all the apps in the app drawer are in no particular order. At least on HC they were alphabetized which made it easy to find everything. Now they're in no order at all and I sometimes go through all of my apps 2-3 times before I find what I am looking for. My first experience with ICS is that it made my Tab less functional than it was before.

Look again. The app drawer is still mostly alphabetic, except for new and downloaded apps which are placed at the end of the list by default.

And there is a new option in the apps drawer. Tap the upper right Menu option, tap View Type, and you can choose between the default "customizable" or "alphabetic" choices. With default customizable set, you can choose to "edit" the list and move apps around to your liking and preferred order, grouping apps if you wish with automatic movement of app icons so you can drag them wherever you want. And of course alphabetic does its thing. ICS remembers your choices too, so if you switch back and forth, it sorts based on last known configured order.

I find ICS is MUCH better than HC, by a long shot.
:)

I have not installed any new apps since updating. The first page in the app drawer is alphabezied, but it's the standard Google apps and the crapware apps that Samsung puts on. None of the other pages of apps for me is alphabetized. I looked briefly through menus for a way to alphabetize them and came up with nothing, but it was late and I was insanely frustrated at that point so I went to bed.

What changes in ICS make it better?

If you have more than one page of apps, then you've added apps as the default amount is roughly one "page" of apps. Sounds like you updated to ICS and still have "pages" of apps from before the update. Those apps will not be alphabetical.

Check the menu I mentioned, it's in there.

Are you kidding?
Faster, smoother, more functional, etc. C'mon...big difference. I don't have time to name all the specifics, just google for info if you really want to know what changed/improved.

Just a tip for those who haven't updated yet. Do screen shots of your home pages before you update. It makes putting your home screens back together a bit faster.
