Just for fun ... go to the main index of forums on this website and see how many Android phones there are ... then co sider that close to all of them are customized.

It is hard to believe that the Android "every phone is different" approach is going to survive. There has to be some standardization ... at least by manufacturer.

I would like to know this as well. If no, I have to say I may give serious consideration to a Windows 8 phone next year.

I like the Android, but I agree with Thom, this desire to have every Android phone different just fragments the entire community. Would love to see Google try to make it so Android device makers use the standard OS and then each OEM can make sure it's optimized to their device.

If someone wants customization after that, there will always be apps that will do the job just as there is now.

The ONLY exception. And that's simply cause Apple wouldn't bring it to VZW unless they skipped the bloatware. Every other phone has it.

As far as I know iPhone doesn't, no Verizon logo and no Verizon bloat, Apple putting it's foot down on this issue is one of the reasons AT&T had it exclusively for so long.

There hasn't been a true GED without bloatware in quite a while. I seriously doubt the W8 phones are going to escape. The only reason the iPhone did is cause Apple has THAT much pull.

I'm just thinking that the way things are going with Android fragmentation they might be worth a look in another year or so, I sure as heck don't want anything with a apple on it, but this Vzw Moto stuff has the potential to put one in a bad mood.

Yea. I've decided I'm only buying unlockable devices in the future. I want to take control of it. Look how long the OG Droid survived. That was due to an active rom'ing community.

I don't know. I think Apple would be willing to say goodbye to Verizon. I mean they were willing to stay with one carrier for quite a while and aren't even on all carriers yet.

And when AT&T got the iPhone originally they passed Verizon in total customers and didn't it take Verizon buying like Alltell to get the lead back?

I've just never seen Apple willingly give up total control over their products and I don't think they will in this case. And wasn't it Verizon they originally approached and Verizon said they wanted bloatware and Apple went to AT&T instead and was Verizon who agreed to the no bloatware to get the iPhone finally?

Oh I have little doubt you're right and Verizon will try, what I don't think will happen is Apple agreeing to it. I think they believe, and likely rightly so, that their customers will follow them if they left any one carrier so Apple wouldn't be the one taking any loss.

I thank a big thing people overlook is Android is open source software while iOS isn't. It might make a big difference if the bundling issue ever goes to court.

No, you are misinterpreting. That story says nothing about Verizon not signing off on it. iOS4 had a separate build for CDMA (or, Verizon) iPhones and GSM iPhones and other iOS devices. 4.2.5 through 4.2.10 were all CDMA-only updates, provided in parallel with 4.3.1 through 4.3.5 (4.2.9 was released the same day as 4.3.4, for example; 4.2.10 the same day as 4.3.5.) Since iOS5, all Verizon iPhones (and iPads) have received the same update on the same schedule as all other iPhones (because, of course, Apple controls the distribution - not Verizon.)

If you have evidence that Verizon has the contractual ability to delay iOS updates, I'd love to see it.
