ICS update

I wonder if we will have ICS by October, or when the operating system becomes one year old. I don't understand what the holdup is Apple is able to release their crappy software for all of their phones while you have Google developing it and than the phone manufacturer modifying it and than the operator dealing with it. I just think its pointless it should be just the developer that releases the software. Anyway it is back to the waiting game. I wonder if there is going to be OTA available or it would have to be done through KIES.

What I have been told is its alpha beta tested on the networks and it lets them add their crap to the load up as well. You know T Mo bloatware.

Not to worry. I spoke with tier 2 support regarding my problems with the Kies software and my SGS 2. These problems are well known at Samsung support. The tech I spoke with said not to worry as anything that can be accomplished with Kies can be done by other means while we are waiting for ICS.

Furthermore, the tech stated that before ICS becomes available Samsung should be rolling out an update for Kies that will correct the current/known problems with Kies on the SGS 2. We should have no problem updating to ICS with Kies by the time it becomes available.

I bought my GS2 from Tesco & even though it starts up with the T-Mobile logo there is no T-Mobile apps on my phone at all ? only Samsung so does this mean I still have to wait to get the update or can I just do it via Samsung.

cheers

it would be nice if Kies would finally work for me but i will believe it when I see it. I'm sure they can just push the update to our phones. .. you're right there is probably a solution if kies does not work

I got mine from Telus and there is virtually no carrier bloatware on it either.. but sadly we will have to wait until it is released for our phone model... it is not the same as the international version

It still sucks that we have to wait for Samsung to add touchwiz and the other stupid apps like the social hub, then it goes to the carrier for them to add their apps which do not work as in the case of T-Mobile. I cannot tell you the number of times the my account app gave me errors. By the time the carrier is finished with their debauchery 12 months has already passed and the next new os is around the corner. A good thing about apple is that if your device is supported you can get the update on the release date well that is if you are not jailbroken which is the same for rooted users to put the default rom of the manufacturer released rom.

hopefully we can get a link to the rom from xda. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy better than kies or over the air yet still original rom.

I want to root my new SG2S now but then I don't want to lose it when ICS rolls out. What should I do? Plus, I have to pay someone to root the phone.

I think you should look in all things root option and the guides are sticky - (at the top of the forum board) Also I don't think you have to pay anyone for rooting your phone since the process is not very complicated. Also for root files you don't have to pay but you can donate to the developers.

So quick answers:

What to do? --- all things root and read guides

Not to loose when ICS rolls out ---- just wait 2 days so the developers can port the official rom to a rooted user rom and flash

Pay for root --- no, but you can always donate I guess.

Wow, that was a long read! Thanks for the link. It is too bad the thread go closed, but I imagine that the ROM will get fixed and a new thread started. I look forward to a vanilla ICS on our phone!

Why is it that we constantly see ICS leaks for AT&T but we never see a leak for T-Mobile. There is no ETA on when they will actually release ICS and that kind of bothers me because there is a bug with the latest Gingerbread where the dialer uses 40% of my battery and my time without signal is 60% even though I am home and have full signal bars and download with 10 mb/s over the mobile network.

You must be talking about 2.3.7 or something, because this phone, with 2.3.6, does not have any problems like that.
(I'de post a screenshot, but I don't see anybody else posting pictures anywhere. Are we not supposed to or something?)

I'm not sure what the "latest" gb update is, so I'm probably saying stupid stuff right now. Sorry.

Good day

On T-Mobile the version is 2.3.6 and there are a butt load of issues with battery life as soon as I can figure out how I can make screen shots I will post one!!!
