ICS update

Do anybody else realize that ICS comes out for T-Mobile S2 OTA tomorrow 5/14? (according to the owner of my local T-Mobile).
And I just rooted. Now I guess I have to learn how to unroot now.

I had heard 5/16 but either way that's this coming week.

From what i understand, if you are just rooted and running the stock ROM, the update will install fine and you will just lose root. I hope that's right because that's my situation.

If you aren't using stock, check the bottom of the OP in this thread. Download the stock ROM for your phone and flash it with Odin.

Does it have to be flashed with Odin or can you also use Clockwork Recovery to flash the rom??? I am not very familiar with Odin, thats why I'm asking!

you need to use ODIN to flash the stock ROM with the recovery.. from what I understand you can not flash the original recovery with CWM and you can not update to the official ICS update without it

No, you have to use Odin for this. Just follow the instructions for rooting the phone in this thread using Odin. The only difference is the only file you would need to use would be the stock ROM zip file.

The OP in this thread has a better close-up of the Odin screen if you need to see it.

According to people in the support section of T-Mobile's forum who have been through previous updates, if you are rooted and running the stock ROM, the update will install but you will lose root. If you are rooted and running a different ROM the update will not install.

I guess we will find out soon. I hope...:D

Does it flash the original recovery with the stock rom because I like clockworkmod a lot better than the original recovery. Since you are just flashing the rom with Odin I am guessing you don't really loose root?

Yes. It replaces the ROM, recovery, and kernel .. everything so you are completely stock.

The ICS update will do the same. That's why you lose root. But if some base identifiers are different, like running a different ROM and kernel, the update won't install.

ICS for SGII Delayed. :argh:

According to several sources I've seen today, ICS for the SG2 is delayed due to a kernel issue.

About half way down this page:

According to our intel, the Galaxy S II update has been delayed due to a kernel issue and has been resubmitted to T-Mobile for approval. No idea when the re-submission took place, but typical approval timeframes are around 30 days.

btw .. I've been looking for more info on updating and was reading this thread. Its about an older update but probably still applies. According to the OP you can't update if you are using CWM. So I guess the only choice is to use Odin to install the stock ROM/Recovery.

I may or may not update at all .. I'm already running ICS from the leak and it works fine for me..

if anything i will update to a different ROM that's based off the official release..

if you are rooted and have CWM then this makes the most sense if you ask me

Yeah probably. I have to see how the official release is though. I've tried several ROM's but I haven't had one that is as smooth and trouble free as stock.

Once the official release comes it will not be too long until 4.0.4 gets applied to the new kernel so we should be able to flash the custom 4.0.4 and enjoy it while the non rooters stay on 4.0.3

well either way it will be fun and I hope it comes sometime soon!!!!

FYI, the GT-i9100 Galaxy S II international version does not have UMTS 1700 band meaning no 3G access on T-Mobile U.S. Would be GSM for on T-Mobile U.S. (Just like a jail broke iPhone with a T-Mobile SIM card).

Thanks. I'll have to check out RootzWiki more often.

yeah until about 3 weeks ago i only knew of XDA but i found rootz and a few other cool ROMs ..

development for our phone is really taking off.. it won't be long before we get official Aokp, CM9, and a few others
