A mod is running off our devs. Is it smart to have a mod ruining it for all of us by running their mouths and having those who contribute to this forum leave for good? I'm pissed and believe I will be looking for tweaks for our phones else where from now on. I want to see yalls opinions.

we don't know everything that happened?:confused: and can't see how someone or a mod can run someone off?? what is the gain of it?? don't know why??

hmmmmm, maybe the moderator who run the dev's off, and is deleting most posts in regards to this matter ( talk about freedom of speech !!! ), could clearify and explain to us what happen, so at least all the innocent ones would know what's going on.

( but I doubt that ever happens )

The disturbing thing is that the gentleman who was "run off" is the guy we all have to thank for probably 80-90% (impossible to accurately assess) of the WORK that has resulted in the Prevail being what it has become to all of us.

No disrespect to anyone else. Major contributions have been made by a select few. We all know who they are.

But let's face the facts even forgetting CM7 as a contribution:

Imagine a world where we did not have ODIN. And imagine a world where all we had was the stock recovery.

That is how major his contributions were to this forum. Hell, His threads are rated 5 stars and have the most activity besides CTMOD (BloodDawn is also in the pantheon of Prevail God's, of course)

Ok, someone else Might have done these things. But they did not.
He did and he busted his butt doing them too.

I am not happy about this at all.

Though I am not a frequent poster, I am a frequent reader.

Can't say I have had much direct correspondance to the developer in question, but he has my utmost respect. His direct and indirect inluence is undeniable and he has made my Prevail ownership more satisfying.

Truth is, without the community here, I might have wasted good money buying unnecessary upgrades.

I thought I read a post from the developer's friend saying he is taking a break for personal health reasons.

The Dev as you call it is working on his own life he left under his choice *if were talking about.the same one* know that he did.good and that hes working hard and as for.the rest who helped there doing there thing cant blame a Mod or a fourm for what happens just go with it more devs will come never know :)

"The Dev as you call it".... im not going to get going about that. Im not trying to start anymore bs on here BUT before you add your opinion please get your facts right. I recieved a PM ( as did others ) saying he WAS bullied by a mod here and that he wasnt going to put up with it.

But yea lets keep defending the mods over our devs... thats smart!! Thats why we have lost two so far.

To clear up any of the "he left on his own doing" mess im going to copy the PM he sent me and others so yall can see for your selves. I will how ever be removing the name of the mod so no issues can be made by him.

Hi All

Just wanted to let you know that I am leaving Android Forums

I am leaving, because the Moderator ******** has treated me in a very dis-respectful manner, and I am not the type of person to tolerate such treatment.

******** has also "thanked" the post in which I stated I was leaving, and he PM'd me saying that no one cares.

The thread that this occurred in has been "cleaned" so you will not find any of the
posts regarding this issue.

You should know that Shabbypenguin has left Android Forums for very similar reasons.

I am not ready to start doing dev work again, but when I am, it will probably be on XDA or Mad Forums

I have had a good time on Android Forums, and have made a lot of friends.

I am sorry that one moderators bullying, had to ruin it for me.

Good Bye and God Bless

hroark13

Can't something be done about this Mod in question? I mean if we all know he's wrong then is there a procedure to follow, someone we can talk to that he has to answer to? Where is the justice?

Im wondering the same thing. If you ask me its the mod who needs to leave.

Shabbypenguin and Hroark13 have both been invaluable to the AF community.

For those who don't know Shabby, he was one of the first developers for the Prevail over a year ago and Shabbymod was one of the first ROMs.

I hate to see these guys go and you can't put a price on their development/support.

Why do I feel like we all lost family members?

Because we have... Like I said I think im done here when I find them on the other forums.. Without their doings our phones more than likely wouldnt be where they are. Now before anyone is offended by that let me say this.. there are great devs here still dont get me wrong, but these two are like the Godfathers of the previal mods.

So from the looks of how slow this topic is going it really doesnt concern too many people. Thats really sad to be honest.

Hi. :)

Accusations are easy to make and nearly impossible to debunk.

In Hroark13's case, he started hating a guy as bogus. When evidence was completed, I banned the bogus guy.

Another budding dev came along, Hroark13 sent me a PM that the new guy was a sock puppet for the first. He was mistaken, I said so and thought that was that. Others joined in disrupting the second guy's thread for not answering, ignoring completely that the cat had posted, "My laptop crashed, I will be back soon."

Instead of waiting to see what the guy had to say, and then decide if he was bogus, the public witchhunt began, complete with false accusations. Hroark13 posted lovely things such as pictures of steaming dog poo.

Another mod went in and posted two or three sentences that said, please be polite, please don't attack each other, please be on-topic (ICS).

Hroark13 responded with a long screed about how stupid we all were and that he had the right to post whatever he wanted. And that if he were reprimanded, he would quit.

I asked him to try decaf with a smiley face, said that we can't share publicly how we knew that the second guy wasn't the first (our privacy policy protects everyone), and now can we drop the issue?

You decide if that was disrespectful or a reprimand.

He quit over that.

The obscenities came next, I asked him why in PM, he answered that he wanted to be banned so everyone could see what a Jerk I was. He earned a no-posting probation and I told him that it would lift when he calmed down and stopping raging. I thought that would take a few minutes or an hour but I was wrong.

A few hours later, others in the ICS thread, good guys, asked in very-thanked public posts if one of us would please remove the drama so that they could discuss ICS kernels in that thread in peace.

I complied with that request and the PM campaign began, I got the first copy of the one posted earlier.

Mods can't hide anything from Phases nor would we want to. Complaints on me have been given him, oh, how they have been given. :) He's reviewed everything in the matter, meaning what was actually said publicly and privately and has responded in support of my actions and statements.

And seriously - at no time did I ever say that no one cared if he was leaving. Look at my record, look at my posts, no one here could reasonably believe that I roll that way.

As for linking me to Shabby, please google -

site:androidforums.com prevail shabbypenguin EarlyMon

And decide for yourselves if my head belongs on a stick.

I've always respected and admired Shabby. If he has a beef with me, I don't know about it, and you all can ask him.

I won't respond further, I don't think it's my place to get any further into this silly hearsay.

Devs are unhappy that we don't ban trolls on the spot.

We wish we could, but we don't ban anyone based on suspicion. It takes time to establish a case for the difference between trolls and a dev or wannabe who royally screws up.

Makes us look asleep at the switch but we're really not.

Your alternative is to have a bunch of ban-happy, power-tripping mods tossing people out on the first suspicion. Sorry, that ain't us.

Or - you can just use the report button on devs you're unsure of, and ignore them until we get time to really check them out.

With a million members, over a thousand forums here with people needing help, it does take time to disassemble roms, contact people, hear how they have done with the accused developments, etc etc etc.

~~~~~~~~
Some people think that I don't understand devs.
I don't develop for Android.
I do develop industrial Linux applications for the semiconductor industry. Chances are if you own something with chips in it, then you own something tested during manufacturing with my work - our firm is the world's leader in that test segment, and I am the director of r&d.
I first began unix kernel development over 25 years ago. Some of you may have used some of my code in your desktop machines. Certainly, my work is still on-station in orbit and in use by the military.
So yes, I think that maybe I do understand the plight of developers and I am pretty sure that I care a great deal about software quality.
I know that I care that I care about and understand maybe a little bit about Android. Before Linux, I wrote an SMP operating system, half of it in assembly on bare metal.
And I use Android, so I care about it working for all of us.
I'm the proud grandfather of six wonderful kids, one old enough now to have carried her first Android phone! :)
If I seem out of place asking for calm reflection rather than flame wars, if I sound odd asking that we attack issues instead of each other, maybe it's because I am from a generation and a time where respect was earned every day and we stuck up for the weakest among us.
I don't know if I am old school, but I think that I will do until old school comes along. :)
Thanks for asking me to speak up, thanks to anyone who has read this.
Please have a great day, please enjoy the forums, and please be excellent to one another - rock on! :)
I can tell you nobody gets "run off" here at AF--failure to follow the Site Rules/Guidelines would be a good start, though.
As much as I'd like to address all of the questions and issues raised here, this is not the appropriate place for that to happen.
There are always two sides to a story and its unfortunate that we cannot share our side of things, but public discussion of specific moderation issues does not serve anyone's best interest.
If you still have questions and would like to discuss, please start a thread in the http://androidforums.com/private-chat-staff/ area.
We need more drama. This is so boring...
I think I heard EarlyMon and scary alien agree that the Democratic party was kick ass and that guns should be banned from the hands of Devs, but aborting them up to age 18 was alright... age 25 in cases of IP (intellectual property) rape.
Whereas I clearly overheard the Devs supporting the Republican party and insisted that guns ought to be issued as matter of national responsibility to every Android user... but that practicing safe hex was abhorrent in the "How to code in advanced Java" scriptures.
Buhwaa ha ha ha... All in good jest my friends.
Now back to your bits and bytes...
Regardless of what happened and who's wrong or right, I'm thankful this thread exists. I had no idea of any of these things happening until I read this. It is valuable to me because:
1) I did not realize anyone had been banned or decided to leave
2) The well thought response of EarlyMon (though this is not me "picking sides") helps me believe they have maturely handled any issues
3) The fact that this thread has been left in-tact helps support the case that the mods have not acted irrationally and manipulated posts to help cover up their tracks (again, not me picking sides).
I think I'll go be depressed now facing the reality that what once was a good thing is now lost...
:(
We need more drama. This is so boring...
Agreed. :rolleyes: :D
BTW, you left out the part about us wanting to nuke the baby whales. :D
I think I'll go be depressed now facing the reality that what once was a good thing is now lost...
:(
Lost? Hope not. Last he told me, Hroark13 said he was going to XDA to post his stuff, if I followed that correctly.
If true, it's not lost, just shifted.
Folks shift back and forth between here and XDA all of the time. It happens.
Of course, we want to see you here as well - many of us maintain accounts here as well as on various development forums.
Whatever it takes to get you happy and experience good phone karma, that's what it's really all about, right?? :)
I don't know Hroark13 or Shabbypenguin personally or the mods here either. I am just a guy that enjoys hacking my phone. (and anything else I can get my hands on for that matter) . I feel like this forum is a part of my phone. When I first came here it amazed me how so many people were willing to bend over backwards to help. I'm going to miss Hroark, his work is probably the reason I still own this phone. It's a shame when we let personalities get in the way of progress, but
I guess that' s the way the ole dice land huh?
i thanked and liked several posts in here because they pertained to me. i had left this forum for my own reasons, while the situation with hroark is similar in that he left the forums as well, we did so under different reasons. while its true im not a fan of many wannabe devs (if you want to learn and grow that is awesome but there is a right way and a wrong way.. taking others work and rebranding it yours isnt it..), in fact if you dont believe me ask kelmar who had to ban me for a week due to some of my comments on teh admire forums ;).
i have my own issues with this site i wont be posting any new work however i still stay and offer support. while that means people will still gain from any help i can provide this site wont be getting any traffic due to my work. my reasons are my own some if not most mods know why.
here is where things get blurry, i respect hroark13 whole heartly. i think he is an amazing dev and i wish him the best of luck on his endeavors and hopefully we can work together again soon (perhaps on some new fancy boost phone :P ). his reason for leaving the forums is his own and ive no right to judge anything on that. it wasnt a situation that involved me, therefore its not my place to say who is right and who is wrong. im sorry if that upsets anyone it isnt my intention.
however... i have not once had any issues with earlymon, in fact to date i dont think any mod and myself have had issues. every time ive been infracted i knew why and understood why i needed a smack on the wrist (doesnt mean i liked it).
my biggest concern with "devs" is the damage they cause. i cant name any names, but there have been a few that have come in and stolen work, caused bricks, or just spam their site. i know they cant be banned on teh spot that would be horrifically unfair, i do however wish there was policies in place that if some jerkoff joins teh site and posts some random jerkoff wont cause bricks. imagien if someone joined and started to talk about how rom manager was suddenly working? how many people would brick due to just that one thread? i wish there was a way for us to remove their "work" until it could be verified as safe if there was concern.
there was a guy on xda who ran some shady crap on the epic 4g forums. he was run off after he was found to be a scam artist and theif. in hindsight i wish we had done more because a few months later on the transformer forum he bricked 4 people putting together a mish mash of other peoples roms.
anyways anyone with questions/concerns/comments feel free to pm me as always :) while i may not be around anymore the prevail people will always be my first love in my heart ;P
Shabby good to hear from you, especially with a positive post in a thread that needed it.
I think this is a similar position Hroak13 generally took, he would 'nudge' developers in the right direction without necessarily doing the work for them.
On the developers: agreed. Normally I wait a week or so before I try a new ROM to see what pans out. The bad comes when I am here, bored and see a new ROM; haven't bricked a phone yet but I have had to wipe all and reinstall.
Either way, glad to see a positive post moving this thread forward.
Not sure why a Mod would punish someone to go after trolls ( dev wannabe's ).....I am a moderator too and I try to get rid of trolls, bad people, wannabe's etc. myself..... So if I miss such a person, I'd be thankful to other's who recognized them as "fakes" and take some action ! ( I am a mod in an non-technical forum ) But if some fake "wannabe-dev" is bricking other peoples property, ANY and I say ANY moderator with some brain should be greatful for the help in identifying fakes and warn people about them !!!
And that's my personal opinion !
