Root If I download Slepnir....

Johnny your best bet is to post your questions in the main Sleipnir thread and if Artine isn't around then someone else will try to answer it.
 
Ok, the only user app that I can think of that I currently have is Angry Birds Star Wars, which I can honestly care less about since I only play it when I am in dedperate need of entertainment. The only thing I am worried about when it comes to downloading Slepnir is bricking my phone and/or losing my contacts. Is there any real risk of doing either of those if I choose to skip backing up my data and simply downloading Slepnir? If not, then it's really no big deal.
 
Your contacts should be backed up by your Google account. Just make sure it is. And once you flash the Rom just sign into your Google account and your contact should automatically sync to your phone. Bricking? I have personally never runner into that problem. But just in case, always make a backup. And yeah, happy flashing.. Roms (small joke there lol)
 
From the Sleipnir page, I suggest the DevHost download link.

Just make sure you know where your download is set to save at, in the browser your using. There should be an option to se it to the external SD card, or move it yourself with a file browser.
 
Pay close attention to the installation instructions as well, especially if you wish to retain your user apps and data without issue. Also, as an alternative to backing up your contacts to your Google account, go to Contacts -> Menu Key -> Import/Export -> Export to SD Card. This will save all of your contacts in a single .vcf file, which can then be imported back should you lose them for any reason.
 
Have you ever popped the back off of your phone and inserted a micro sd card? If not then you don't have one.

That is probably the phones built in memory which it recognizes as an sd card. If you don't have one try to find a class 10 micro sd. I got a 8 GB PNY brand last week on sale for 12.99 at best buy, I think this week the Sandisks are on sale for the same price. I used to use an older class and it really bogs down your phone if you use the external sd card much so make sure you get a (10)

You can place it on your internal SD card, though it will take up considerable space. I strongly recommend purchasing an external SD card, as they have much greater capacity than that of which comes in the phone itself, and are extremely cheap to purchase. There are many advantages to this, especially concerning backups of data not taking up space you could use for apps, pictures, music, etc. Note that they have to be micro SD cards, and usually come with a larger, regular SD, card adapter that the micro SD card can fit into. This could then be put into an SD card reader that may come with a computer, or an SD Card Reader that could be purchased separately. Or, you could connect your phone to any standard computer using its charger cable, and transfer data to the external SD card or internal SD card that way, as well.
 
Hmmmm well, it's worth a try I guess. Are there any steps I should take before I flash the ROM from the internal memory? Also, where should I save the ROM's zip file prior to flashing?

Again, I recommend getting an external SD card. Much easier to work with, at any rate. However, just follow the installation instructions outlined in both the Sleipnir original post, and in the ClockWorkMod FAQ-Guide that is stickied to the top of the Elite All Things Root board. Take a look at both before doing anything, and you should be able to flash from internal memory just fine.
 
Ok, I checked it out and it looks easy enough. I really wish I could do a backup, but it's whatever. My contacts should be synched to my Google account (both of them) and I don't have any valuable user apps. But before I flash, I want it to be known that I do indeed have custom stuff on my phone such as a custom boot animation and sound, as well as a custom font and battery life icon. Will those hinder the installation at all?

No, but they will be overwritten. You'll need to change those back if you want to keep them. Always make a Nandroid backup before doing anything like a ROM flash, and if you can't because of space then once more I recommend getting a micro SD card for the phone. Cheap, reliable, and huge capacity. It's better (and cheaper) than having to replace a bricked device if you can restore from a Nandroid backup instead.
 
And again, being able to create a backup by having a micro SD card, is a lot cheaper than having to replace the entire device because you tried something that bricked it, and didn't have a backup to restore from. I personally recommend either PNY or SanDisk, for micro SD cards.
 
It should work just fine. Everytime I get a new sdcard I put it in the phone and then go to settings --> storage ->> unmount sdcard --> erase SD card. Then remount it. Basically formatting it correctly and be completely compatible with the phone. :] Then you should be able to backup just fine in CWM. Just hit backup. It will take some time. Make sure to have your chargerplugged in and at least 35% battery is recommended for installing Roms. Your backup will be about 400-900mb's depending on how many apps you have installed. The backup will be in /mnt/sdcard/_ExternalSD/clockworkmod/ so don't delete that folder. And just so were clear /sdcard/ is your 2Gb of phone memory as the Internal Storage. /_ExternalSD/ is the actual micro SD card you just bought. Hope your all set and ready to download your ROM. I backed up my Android last night, but bootlooped it twice trying to install the ROM :(. I got back into the phone via Restore, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'd really like to have Slepnir :(((
