Will restoring a NAND backup of the phone before it was rooted be enough to hide any evidence of tampering?

Also, is there any way to completely wipe the phone without doing any damage? I'm talking system files...the works.

Ah, forgot to mention....no, was a SIM-free unbranded bought from HandTec.

Then just flash back to stock with an RUU, you'll remove all trace of root.

restoring a nandroid backup will not remove the custom recovery

just flash the latest HTC RUU package that is usually kept up to date on here and xda-devs and it will wipe it to factory and put stock htc radio/recovery/rom on there
