Root if I update my phone to Gingerbread will apps delete?

My phone is currently running stock Android 2.2(my phone is rooted though) and I have lots of games and apps. I was wondering if I update my phone to 2.3 with this

will I lose all my apps? Will I lose my homescreen and were all the apps are arranged?

no, you technically can install that without wiping your phone, but i'd advise against it. Check out the root sticky and look at the titanium backup tips.

It's always best to do a factory reset (wipe) when ever you update your OS. Will be less glitchy and better on your battery.

But this isn't a custom ROM though. Its the OTA update so it should work fine wouldn't it?

Can you tell me how I can even update? I put the Zip file into my SD card now what? How do I enter recovery menu?

Do I have to rename it as update.zip?

No you flash in recovery like any other Rom.

you should do a full wipe when installing any rom that changes your OS version, but you can try doing it without one, definitely make a backup, because more than likely you will have problems.

I did it without doing a full wipe. Everything seems fine. Only problem I had is that 4 games are missing but I redownloaded them and the save files kept in tack.
