If im rooted with z4 root and the update comes, what will happen to my phone? Will it automatically update or can I choose to do it later? If it updates and I don't unroot before, what happens!?

Just unfreeze the apps and the update should work fine. That is what I did for the last update. After updating the phone I re-froze the unwanted apps.

What about removed apps? (removed via tibu) Will it still update?
no, all the apps need to be there for the update to work...

for future reference...you should back up all of the apps you plan to remove before removing them..or just freeze them...

While I am excited about the forthcoming (hopefully) GB release, I won't be updating until root has been confirmed for it, along with other important things like Clockwork recovery, Wireless Tether, Quickclock, etc are working/playing nice with GB. I use these apps all the time and will not make the change until I know there won't be a problem with the configuration I now have and like.

Its my understanding that a GB OTA will remove root with no option to go back to an earlier build (please correct me if this is wrong). Not sure if that holds for a leaked build, but I don't want to chance it. That being said, I'm pretty sure the active modding community will bring root fairly soon after the official OTA arrives, so I shouldn't be holding on to Froyo too long after GB is released.

The next few weeks should be interesting:D

the leaked build that we are currently running DOES break root, but it also DOES allow you to return to earlier builds...the only catch is that you have to do a full SBF. You can't just flash in recovery because we don't have root and can't get into CWM (obviously)...

whether or not the OTA will change things making it impossible to go back?...no idea...its possible...once the OTA comes however i expect the devs to have gained root, as well as starting to make new ROMS based on GB...

Thanks Met, but I'm going to wait until after the OTA has been rooted and these apps are working well with it before I'll go ahead and take the dive. I have my DX configured and working perfectly and I just don't want to ruin a good thing - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", as the saying goes...

In the mean time I'm interested in hearing about the experiences of all those who are "early adopters" regarding both the leaked builds now and then the official OTA later.

Well, I will have to say I have my X just like I like it right now and unless there is some really cool things added to the next release, I too, will probably not upgrade. Or I will not upgrade until all of the above mentioned apps are working for the new release. Does anyone know what amazing new things are suppose to be in the new GB release?

question I am a complete newb I know I deleted some of the stock app (blockbuster other stuff ) how can I get it back so I can update also I am on 2.2 I want to update to 2.3.340 but I do not know how it keeps failing please help thankyou

Two men in black suits will come to your door and take you to a secret location for interrogation. Whatever they say, whatever they do to you, do not give them any information!

I had 2 MIB come to my place, but when I told them I'm a member of the forum with Steven58, they left me alone...

So...if you're rooted and have apps frozen with TBU, the update won't work until you unfreeze the apps? And then GB won't let you root or use any apps that require you to be rooted? Any word on when Verizon is going to release GB?

If you are rooted, and have a custom Droid X rom installed, the likelihood is that the OTA update will fail. OTA updates look for certain things to be present on the operating system, and in their absence simply abort the installation. Of course, if you're like me, who has what he wants (Liberty 2.0) and wants no part of *any* Motorola OTA update, well that's just fine.If you actually WANT the thing though, and if you're rooted, with a custom DX rom, then it's not so good and you may want to consider reverting to the update they released last September or so - I can't recall the exact build number, off the top of my head.
