If Sprint released the Evo3D and SGS2 and Photon on the same day which would you pick?

Which phone if all 3 on the same day ?

The carrier foot-dragging rumor was the result of everyone getting clever.

The SGS got its Froyo update in a timely fashion. The HTC Evo got it beginning of August on Sprint (US carrier).

The US variants of the SGS got the official Froyo many months later - one of them, just last month.

Tends to show that the carriers aren't the problem - it's possibly that the variations took longer to update and that was on Samsung's side (as I recall, the entire SGS world was running TouchWiz 3.0, while the Epic was running 2.5, supposedly having to do with the carrier spec or keyboard or whatever rumor).

I think the carriers in the US were complicit in covering Samsung's reputation here, but in the end, they had no profit motive to hold back the update - and Samsung US acted like it had no profit motive to move forward. (That's rather normal for Samsung US, by the way, judging from their TVs.)

PS - Update timeliness is very much a part of vendor decision from day one. It's one of the large reasons I'd had enough with Samsung the last time. There were other reasons, too, but I'll give any tech a second look - but support only has few chances to convince me.

So - it's perfectly as fair to be bringing up updates as it is to bring up any other factor.

If I'm not assured of Ice Cream Sandwich on my next phone, it won't be my next phone. (yeap, i meant to do that)

The GalaxyS2 will be released well before the 3D, IMO.

As someone who was initially dead-set on picking up the 3D, I've now come to assume that its not ready for release. This bugger is being hidden in the basement like a mutant stepchild. The S2 is being flaunted and shipped out like nobody's business.
Hell even the sensation has been outed and dated, yet not a peep about the 3D's release. I think the S2 will be announced and released before the 3D.

Which country?

Which country?

I'm talking about the U.S. specifically. By that I mean I think that the S2 variants will be put out before the 3d gets released in the US. Especially because the S2 variants' names were apparently leaked yesterday and the fact that Samsung has a press conference scheduled later this month.

What I would like is for the Sensation, 3D and an S2 variant all to come out around the same time so I could make an informed decision and pick between the 3 without waiting much longer. (The suspense killing me!) But I think the 3D must not be ready for prime time, its too quiet.

[I realized when I made my prior comment, it would be met with hostility given the biased nature of discussion I have found on these device-specific threads, but its just my honest opinion. My interest is actually equally spread between the sensation, 3D, and S2]

If anyone gets hostile, use the !Report button next to their post - we're here to discuss and sometimes argue our positions but there's no good excuse for bad manners.

OK - I don't recall the release dates of the US variants beyond the Epic, so I'm going to go with the Epic variant coming after the 3vo as my guess - but - I'm not sure if we'll see the Sensation on Sprint or if that will limit to TMo only here. Not sure.

And - if they don't repeat the SGS2 in Epic form factor, then that will leave only the Shift as Sprint's Android slider of any merit. So, I admit great confusion personally trying to guess if they'll do an Epic II or something more SGS2-like.

Also - as I mentioned earlier - that original naming info seems to have come from an India blog (nothing wrong with that) who warned those were CODE names, not necessarily the names. The repeater blogs have left that part out, it seems. (Much like the Kingdom is a code name for an HTC phone.) So - if that shapes your guess, there it is, if it doesn't, that's cool too. Just putting that info out there.

We'll know soon enough. :)

I'm definitely going with the EVO3D. I'm not a fan of the lack of weight on a phone. Feels awkward in my hand. Also you couldn't pay me to use TouchWiz on a daily basis, and I'm not huge on flashing custom ROMS.

I'll let samsung prove themselves before I jump on board.
After all the gps problems and update problems I'm just not interested in them yet.
If the phone turns out to get great reviews and no problems in the forums I will take another look. Now if we can get an optimus 2x to play with I might be tempted.

I trust HTC a hell of a lot more than Samsung when it comes to updates.

I'd go Evo3D easy.

The only Samsung product I would ever consider would be the Nexus S. Short of that, I'll never own a Samsung phone. I don't care if it has 20 cores, and scores a billion on smartbench.

I'm honestly torn. I love parts of both devices. I had my heart set on the E3D until I hear the S2 might be out by Sept.

I'm seriously torn here... It comes down to a Super AMOLED Plus on the S2 vs the qHD 3D display on the Evo3D for me. That's really the big difference in my mind and I'm not sure which I want more.

I need to decide...

Evo3D. Don't care if I have to wait 2+ more months for it. Well, I care...and hope we don't have to wait that long for release but I am willing to wait for what I want. Yep, I think it's going to be that good.

Im interested in the E3D but the SGS2 is more powerful, so I would choose the SGS2 most definitely but I still want to try out the E3D.

EVO 3D for me, please. I've had too many friends have issues with their Epics. One friend got one of the late updates that bricked her phone. Could be Sprint, or Sammy at fault, I dunno, But I don't know of ONE Epic owner that hasn't had some sort of issue. Explains the $150 price tag, now, huh? Bottom line EVO 3D or the mythical kingdom. If I were to go Samsung, it would be NS4G. "And that's all I've got to say about that.":D

I'm going to try to tread lightly here, so I don't anger anyone like I did recently on this same subject.

I find the aggregate score on the free quadrant to be useless. Paid quadrant shows the details for their four measurements, but the single score without detail requires too much in the way of assumptions for me to trust - therefore, I don't find it a decent measure at all, not even for order of magnitude.

We have some good discussions and arguments on the various processors, and a nice note by the Smartbench author in -

http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/331783-underlying-tech-evo-3d-qhd-3d-dual-core-smp.html

Not ragging on quadrant or on the Exynos - just free quadrant and uncorrelated benchmarks.

Looking at the article you posted, it claims a total score of 3053 for the SGS2 and 2958 for the Optimus 2x (although, the O2x isn't shown in the glitzy graph). Without details, that 100 point difference might be in the noise. You can't tell with that metric. It's uncorrelated.

PS - Agree the Sammy cameras are pretty decent for a cell phone. I'm looking forward to comparisons, as making phones thinner does tend to often hit camera quality. Hope that's not the case for the new one.

The Exynos processor and the Mali-400 GPU that benchmarks have been blowing every other processor away.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Benchmark Results in 3000+ on Quadrant AndroidGuys

I honestly wouldn't base an entire phone on benchmarks. I'll refer you to this video

YouTube - Gaming: Samsung Galaxy S II vs. LG Optimus 2X

Does the Galaxy S II blow the other phone away there? If so then I'm not seeing it. I'm not trying to change your mind about which phone you'd prefer, but remember most of the time, you can really only take benchmarks with a grain of salt. Remember, there's lies, damned lies, and statistics ;)

Well Samsung usually makes better processors than Qualcomm i.e. Last snapdragon vs Hummingbird, and I lost interest in HTC after my hero (horrible phone) and the 2 Evos that wouldn't charge and I got an Epic and rarely had problems I couldn't fix with root

Reminds of that thing in Avatar where the flying things had to pick their rider. :)

Good thing we have choices in top notch phones, because the Sammy didn't pick me, and the HTC didn't pick you. ;)

In the old days, my dad talked about gremlins - later, we talked about the ghost in the machine. I'm not superstitious, but I'm just sayin'...

What made the last Epic such a kick butt powerhouse was mostly attributed to the PowerVR SGX540, which was and is one of the most powerful GPU's in a phone. Qualcom easily makes CPU's that can compete with Hummingbird, but nothing could compete with the SGX540.

This time around, Samsung dumped PowerVR and decided to go inhouse, so that for sure needs to be considered

Notice Apple went PowerVR for their iPad2 and it buries the iPad one in terms of gaming performance. Smart move on their part. Samsung on the other hand...

Neither. Now I'm leaning toward the AT&T HTC Holiday. Same internals as 3D but with 4.5" qHD screen + LTE + Android 2.3.4. Probably launch around same time.
