I dont like the fact that i have to jail break my iphone to be able to tether...and i probably cant tether at my house anyway. the internet speed on the iphone seriously blows compared to my hero at home. the hero is at least 4 times faster. there's always a trade off as i'm finding out. now i have a great phone with sucky service...lol

you were warned :-P

All I have to say is, atleast somebody who will enjoy it is going to be getting your Hero.

There are many reasons I would never get an Iphone or any Apple product really. Here are a few. Overpriced, overpriced, too closed-minded, too proprietary, and overpriced.

Also, I just think people using them look like douches. I'm not sure why. I'm not saying they all are douches. I have friends and family that have Iphones that are certainly not douches. But, for some reason they just make you "look" like a douche.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but while they may be a tad pricier than the competition on their products...APPLE FLAT OUT KNOWS HOW TO MAKE A GREAT PRODUCT!!

Believe me, I'm a tough one to sway on this, and I felt the same way about their stuff too, however, I've been a Mac owner since April, and I (and I can't emphasize this loud enough) WILL NEVER GO BACK TO A PC AGAIN!!!

I have never had an issue with the Mac, and when I've had a question, I've had it answered within 5 minutes of calling their tech support. I know a lot of people "hate" Apple for what they've become in pop-culture, but their stuff, like their commercial states, just works.

I had the same feelings about the iPhone as well. My views have since changed. the only thing that has kept me from the iPhone is AT&T. If Sprint were ever to get it, I'd be there. Granted, my views are again changing with the introduction to Android. I truly think that Google (if they can recover from the Nexus One...which so far, has failed in sales and could make a bad name for Android...even though it's not justified as the sales have nothing to do with the OS) is going to give Apple a run for their money in the mobile world within the next 1-2 years. Now, I'm not so certain I'd switch to an iPhone if it came to Sprint with Android available.

You're right, their products do just work. However, that comes at a cost. You lose a lot of freedom to use your system the way you want. And as I mentioned, you flat out pay more cash for it. It's likely that Android would "just work" the same way the Iphone does if google had decided to say that there will only be 1 android phone and that's it.

As far as getting your questions answered, I don't really care about that. I never call tech support for anything anyways so that doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is the freedom to use my computer/phone to do whatever I want. Not having to buy proprietary accessories. Being able to buy whatever hardware I want, and not whatever Apple decides to make is important to me.

However, that's just me. Some people feel like paying more money to have fewer choices is a good deal. I'm not one of them. I don't if other people feel that way, I'm not trying to bash people that do. I'm just telling how I feel about the whole thing.

Guys, how much do you think i paid for an iphone? $400? No, i paid $199 for it. How is that expensive? The hero was almost that when i bought it. The samsung instinct HD was $199 when i bought it right before I bought the hero. and guess what, the hero is on ebay right now and i bet i'll get at least $200 for it...so really if you think about it i'm breaking even and saving $80 a month on the plan. Actually i'm coming out ahead, because I actually ended up paying $129 for the hero because i got a refund for the price difference when it went down as per best buys policy.

And, in all honesty, i have been places with my wife where her phone worked and my sprint didnt and visa versa

How did you avoid the early termination fee?

For coverage area in the places I go, I gotta say I'm extremely pleased with Sprint and the Hero compared to AT&T and the Iphone. There's no AT&T service at all at my house, and I can pick up a bit of Sprint or Verizon(roaming) with my Hero. When I go into the nearest town, my Sprint signal hits full bars, and AT&T has decent signal (no 3G). When I go ice fishing on the Canadian border, I had 3 bars and 3G, while in the middle of Lake of the Woods. My brother-in-law's Iphone had absolutely nothing. Heading 150 miles west to school, I only lose service in one place, and that's due to being extremely close to the tower and dropping into a valley well below it.

Granted, it helps a lot that most of Minnesota was covered by Midwest Wireless, which was bought out by Alltel, which was bought by Verizon. But I don't roam very much on my way to school, and they apparently installed a repeater or something on campus, as I got full bars inside our science complex this semester, where I couldn't get more than 1 or 2 bars in most rooms in the same complex last semester.

So you're right, to each their own. It wouldn't matter if AT&T was free to me, I couldn't do it. I just couldn't stand not having service in the majority of places I go.

I paid $99 for my Hero. Also, your $40/month plan isn't a fair comparison, that's unique to your situation. My wife and I pay 130/month for unlimited text/data, unlimited calls to any mobile phone and 1500 minutes to landlines. ATT doesn't really have an identical, but I tried to pick one close. 2 Iphones $400 + FamilyTalk 3000 min plan $150 + Unlimited text $30 + Unlimited Data $30.

Hero $200 for 2 phones $130 monthly
Iphone $400 for 2 phones $240 monthly (they charge you twice for unlimited data for 2 phones)

I save $200 upfront on the phones and $110 per month compared to the Iphone and ATT. That's $2640 less over the 2 year contract! And the ATT plan isn't even as good in my opinion without unlimited mobile calls to any network.

...I just dont like how so many processes run at one time slowing it to a crawl sometimes.

I know that the general response is, "you should be able to run as many applications or processes that you want" - but the reality is that there is a limit here, just as with any computer! I use my phone primarily as a business tool, not a game or play thing, (well, maybe while waiting for a plane) and I am either missing the definition of "lag" or it isn't bad enough to fret about. I just think some are expecting a whole lot more than can be expected of such a device.

Good bye - and best of luck. :)

That's a good point Chief7. Most people don't launch 12 programs on their desktop and then complain that it's laggy. This is a PHONE for cryin out loud. I also haven't noticed any real lag. Worst I've had is some choppiness and slow loading of really long lists.

I don't understand coming on an Android forum, and telling everyone you left for an iPhone. I had BlackBerry for years, and became quite the expert on it, and gave a lot of advice to folks over at Crackberry. When I got rid of my pos BlackBerry Tour, and got this Droid, I didn't bother going back over there and telling everyone what lousy phone BlackBerry makes, and that I'm so much happier.

You're either being a jerk, or you aren't confident in your decision and need assurance, which of course you won't find here LOL.

+1

I had an iphone 3gs 16gig and left at&t cause even with my 20% discount from work I was still paying about $95.00+ a month. That was with the lowest phone plan, unlimited text, and u have to get the data plan no way around that. With sprint i only pay $70.00 a mount with my discount from work and i have the everything data plan. Plus a lot of the main apps i used on the iphone all the time i got free on Android. but whatever floats your boat. Go with it.

Price is probably the main reason i never got an Iphone. Well ATT's plan prices i should say. I have the 450 everything and after discounts i pay around $60. Maybe less starting next month as a friend said sprint gives you a discount if your a credit union member and sure enough i called today and got a 10% monthly discount!

It's worth opening a account at a credit union just for that lol

iPhones and the Hero came to Orange at about the same time. My mate got an iPhone, I got a Hero. We met up with some friends just after that.

Everyone wanted a go on my Hero, and said it was awesome. My friend kept his iPhone is his pocket. Now, all my friends coming to me to recommend an android device, and asking what will be available when their contract runs out.

The android platform is fanstastic, a breath of fresh air. And I won't be going anywhere else anytime soon.

I own an iPhone 3GS. I use it to compare to Android powered phones, if you look to the left < by my user name, I am an Android user - and in fact never take my iPhone anywhere.

And so it begs the question, why do people keep saying they 'go iphone'? You are reffering to the OS hopefully, not the crummy hardware attached to it.

And so in fact you are going 'iPhone OS' < of which is not customisable in any way, is inept of multi-tasking and drains its own battery life faster than a HTC Hero with the bluetooth left on.

Can I make a statement, and quote me if you like, but the only good thing about the iPhone < and the second biggest selling point of this phone, as well as the only thing reviewers consistently bum on about is the fact this 'Phone' never lags < I am guessing that is why people go 'iPhone OS', right?

And on the subject of having '' marks around 'phone' I do this because it has the inability to ever allow me to receive a clear phone call < the one thing phones should do.

I review and compare every smart phone to the iPhone, and the Motorola Droid, Nexus One and hell even my HTC Hero which I adapted to run 2.1 is better than the iPhone < hardware wise these phones are far better than the iPhone, they offer better functionality and *Apple fanboys get their knuckle dusters out* better build quality.

The iPhone OS is so un-system heavy that it could run smoothly on a Samsung Tocco Lite, not only that, but it is so outdated and boring now that Android users are literally laughing at Apple iPhone users because they can get down and dirty with their phones, whilst the latter have to stick with a frigid and costly phone - mind, they can always shine their Apple logo's.

There's an app for just about anything, Sure. But the iPhone just can't do anything.

Well folks, I ended up jumping ship. I guess i got tired of waiting. Wait for an update, waiting for decent games with good graphics, waiting for good useful apps that do what i need, waiting for the lag to go away, waiting for a better typing keyboard, waiting untill i get all of my calls and all of my texts...just waiting. I ended up getting the end all of phones. I always knew in the back of my mind it was better in so many ways, and after playing with it for a couple days, I wish i had not even wasted my time with anything else. Sorry guys, I joined the iphone club. This is a great site, with a great bunch of people that are willing and able to help others with their problems. Heck if i wouldnt have joined, i wouldnt know half of what i do with hero. So thanks Guys! and good luck on the android road! hope the update fixes all the quirks of the phone.
Hey man.... It's all good! I live in a house with two Iphone users. I would have already jumped ship, but Im not willing to pay those phone bills. My Hero is good enough. Check out your notifications with the Iphone. It's not better than Android notification system. You will definitely miss some messages.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but while they may be a tad pricier than the competition on their products...APPLE FLAT OUT KNOWS HOW TO MAKE A GREAT PRODUCT!!

I don't agree that they have a great product, how many version of the Iphone are they? They had to make multiple upgrades to thier exsisting version to fix all the problems from the previous version, but they were smart by creating a new version of the phone, and we were dumb enough to fall for it, and bought it, and hyped it up. I do believe they were the pioneers of the touch screen, a lot of companies tried to make a good touch screen, but Apple beat the competitors out. I believe HTC/Sprint will hopeful keep listeing to us and be just as competitive as Apple or out beat them. They found a nitch, RUN WITH IT!:D

I couls have went with an iphone a longe time ago....and almost did, but i wanted something different. I didnt want to jump on the bandwagon, wanted something unique. Well as i found out unique isnt always the best thing. Now if the hero catches on like the iphone did...well it should do quite well, but i suspect it wont. There are alot of people complaining, whining, crying and bitching about quite a few things with the hero so its probably going to scare some potential buyers off. Think about it, the iphone was the first of its kind, so even if it had quirks/problems...what other choice did you have? now there are plenty of choices and more choices are being added each day...but still every phone is ALWAYS compared to the iphone....why is that? i'll miss my hero, and i'll miss sprint...everytime i called they were always polite, helpful and seemed to care. Customer service second to none in my opinion. I'll miss that for sure. I cant wait to see what the future holds for phones. i'm a tech junkie for sure and i get all giddy when a new device is coming out...lol

I will say this, the OP is in the Baton Rouge area and having recently visited that area I had little to no service through Sprint the whole time, phone kept bouncing off other networks left and right, had I had to put up with it for more than a week I might have considered making a switch.

You must be referring to this;

nexus-one-sales-guesstimates-20000-first-week-1.jpg

Do you have any method to your contribution to this thread other than the table above? Baring in mind that, against your statement, the Nexus One has relied on nothing but hype to sell itself, and the launch being a matter of weeks away from the announcement.

Whereas the 3GS is an established handset, and so naturally would sell more, the Droid also went through a heavy promotional stage via the internet, print media, direct mail and third party practitioner spam.

How in any way has it failed? And why do you think that 20,000 handsets sold will make a bad name for Android? Not to put you in the spotlight or anything, but for me you've hijacked this thread with utterly ridiculous claims.
