Root I'm back and I need help.

Hello all! I haven't been on these forums since the OG Evo days--and a little while over at the Samsung Galaxy S III area too!

I have an issue, unfortunately. I was given the HTC Evo 4G LTE by a friend to test out (he's a huge HTC fan) to hopefully replace my Samsung Galaxy S III (he doesn't like Sammy at all). I unlocked my bootloader via the HTC Dev site, rooted it (I literally forgot the method I used), installed TWRP recovery, but I still have S-on.

My issue is that regardless of what [correct] rom I flash, I get a bootloop on the loading screen. Example, if I have stock sense installed, it gets to the Sprint logo and then restarts over again.

I was trying to flash the lastest stable release of Cyanogenmod for the LTEvo but to no avail. I read later (probably should've read first) that if I have S-on then I have to flash the kernel separately. I tried flashing the kernel separately and still to no avail. I even tried to flash ViperROM and the Viper IMG Flasher--the rom flashed successfully but the IMG flasher failed every time, yet it still bootloops.

My HBOOT is 2.09, the radio is 1.13.11.0830, and the most recent build I had was 3.17.xxx.x. All I want to do at the moment is return the phone to stock, re-locked (or just locked if that's possible), unrooted working order. I've read all that I can and I still don't know what I'm doing wrong regarding this phone :/.

P.S. What does it mean by "This build is for development purposes only do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's permission" when loading the phone?

I'd try to download this rom and flash it first. This is the latest Stock rooted rom for your current firmware and hboot version. Dev-Host - 3.17.651.4_stock_rooted_deodexed_CPTB.zip - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service

If that doesn't work, we'll move on from there.

Installed successfully (again) but keeps rebooting to the HTC quietly brilliant screen with the "this build is for development purposes only. Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permission. Failure to comply may lead to legal actions" text underneath.

The red text underneath is just a result of unlocking the bootloader, no worries about that.

The thing you will need to do now is extract the kernel and flash it through ADB and fastboot.

So, I officially love you (in the most platonic/agape way possible)! Flashing the kernel with option 1 worked flawlessly! I know how to do ADB now too! I learned 2 things in this whole process with HTC, lol.

If I want to flash the lastest build of Cyanogenmod, I'd have to flash the rom and move the boot.img to the sdk tool and push it that way as well?

I'm pretty sure you can. I haven't been s-on in quite a while, so I'm not 100%.

Follow the same procedure, flash the rom, clear the cache and Dalvik cache, reboot the bootloader, enter fastboot, flash the kernel via ADB. Should work.

Also, is there supposed to be an official Sense 5 update for the LTEvo? I mostly focus on the SGS3 because that's the main one I use and I've been out of the loop on the LTEvo.

Yep.....checkout our stickies........there is one for sense and a KitKat rom as well.

Why not just use http://Rumrunner.us/?

I don't get it.

If the OTA was taken to get to 3.17 before rooting began, I don't think that moonshine is going to work anyway.

yeah there is no need to downgrade if you are on the latest firmware. you can use rumrunner to root the latest firmware.

I think I had tried it before and it didn't work for me. I'll give it a go now that I have it working again thanks to you all lol Also, I noticed you ALL are mods now, lol. Congrats!
