I'm Keeping My Note 7

I'm kinda wishing I had kept mine now. I turned in N7 number 1 (first recall) and then N7 number 2 to (second recall) Verizon in October and have been trying to get my money back ever since. I paid full price (cash) and got an S7 on device payment while waiting for a refund as they refused to give me a refund at the time even though I had a receipt. They said they had to refund in the same form as I had paid but didn't have that much cash on hand. They promised to have a check sent to me. No check was forthcoming in September for 1st phone or October for 2nd phone.
As of today they finally put all of my money back into my Verizon account to apply towards future bills even though I have called and called and called to either get my money sent to me or applied as a payoff of the S7. They don't see a problem. They say the phone is being paid off since each month some of the credit balance will be applied towards the phone so we should be good now. I swear I will be bald soon trying to reason with them! I wish they'd just give me back my beautiful Note7!

They absolutely have to give you a refund if you want it. Them holding onto $800+ of your money for the next two years to use as credits to pay for your S7 is flat out a crime. Tell them you want monthly compounded interest on the compulsory loan they've taken from you. I'd go right into one of their official Verizon Wireless stores with a sleeping bag and pillow and tell them you're not leaving until they give you the cash or write you a company check.

I have a similar problem to yours with T-Mobile. I think I've finally got my bill straightened out, I paid cash, in full, too. That didn't stop Magenta from charging me EIP every month, though. If I'm forced to give the phone back I don't think it will be easy to get my money back.

Sadly, they are not holding onto the funds to pay on my S7 for the next 2 years. They are holding onto it to pay on my account in lieu of the auto draft agreement that has been set up for he last 15 years. The device payment is lumped in with the monthly bill and will be barely dented by the time the funds that were initially spent specifically to buy a phone are all gone.
I got to thinking about this today and decided to force their hand. I paid off this phone in full (as of now) and demanded the full refund of my Note 7 be mailed to me. 7 to 10 business days was the answer now that I have no contract. I work in a bank back office department. If we handled our accounts this carelessly we wouldn't have any customers.

I have not. I called again two days ago and the rep I spoke with spent quite some time going through all of the notes in my file before noticing one glaring omission. No one had submitted a refund request in all this time! He submitted it and told me I should see my funds in my checking account within 3-5 business days. This time I even got a text confirmation of the request. Still no guarantee though. Tomorrow will be day 3. Tick tock.

WOW!! I just got caught up on this thread. Good luck and keep us updated as I'm curious.

WOW. I sort of feel your pain.

Last year was our 25th Anniversary, and we had saved up for a serious upgrade in wedding rings. Their value exceeded the replacement rate for jewelry on our homeowners insurance, so we insured them separately as scheduled items. Our mortgage servicer advised us in August that we had an escrow shortage due to the increased insurance premium. Okay, no problem: I stroked a check to pay the escrow shortage in late August.

The check cleared early September, but the idiots didn't credit it to the escrow shortage... then they sold the mortgage! So now the new mortgage company is telling us that our monthly mortgage payment is about $300/month MORE than it should be, in order to pay back the deficit. I told them that we already paid it in a lump sum, and they've been working on it for a month now. Meanwhile, we're sitting on the payments because anything we pay will just muddy the waters even more. By law, we have 60 days to get caught up without any negative hits on our credit report. Hopefully they'll get this fixed soon. UGH

Still no joy today. In fact now they have apparently misplaced my money and are telling me that my account is past due! I nearly went ballistic when I got that email today. Needless to say they are investigating. Another 10 days waiting period. Tick tock.

And yes, every month my regular bill payment muddies things more since they aren't using the auto draft that has been set up for years. Instead they are whittling away at my refund including a device payment even though the device is paid off!

I begin to wonder if third graders are running their accounting department.

The latest VZW math whiz reversed the entire $941.76 device payment that I made in September plus the bill I paid for October then added a credit for the Note 7 of $864.00 (not including the tax) and came to the conclusion that I owe them $170.00 even though they have yet to reimburse me for my Note 7! Nothing like fancy math magic.

Still no actual refund from Verizon but they do say a check is in the mail and have given me a check number and a date mailed. Meanwhile, I got a check from Samsung for the full amount of my Note7 plus $25.00 today. That was totally out of left field. Thanks?

OMG! It's finally here. A check from Verizon for the full purchase price including tax. I nearly got a paper cut opening the envelope my hands were shaking so hard. Turned right around and went to the bank with both checks. Just took 7 weeks of begging and pleading to get my refund.
Nice one

I don't know why but for some reason I didn't think they'd be able to affect Bluetooth and WiFi. WiFi calling sure but just connecting to a network? I guess it is true. We're only renting these things regardless if you pay full price or not.

if they force a new update, it is easy to just turn OFF anything on the phone they wish.
they will just delete the API to enable everything.
instant brick.

i think disabling the charger is a very good thing for them to do.
totally removes the chance of a fire....
i suspose a battery that is crushed could be a threat... but that does not usually happen.

That's a bad perspective. You're not renting the Note 7. You're carrying a device which you are required to return for the sake of your butt, Samsung's and all their partners.

It's an extreme measure, sure, but when was the last time something like this was enforced in this manner?

I can't see them going that far, like for a complete bricking and/or disabling charging completely. It could cause people to lose access to any personal data stored on them, even though it's really their own fault for still using the things. Also that may even have legal implications about deliberately causing loss of access and/or destroying users' data, but IANAL of course. IMO locking them into what is basically permanent airplane mode should be enough, data can still be accessed via USB or transferred to SD within the phone.
