Help Impossible to Disable 4G

toasty

Android Enthusiast
I'm trying to only turn on 4G when I need it, to preserve battery. For some reason, no matter how many times I turn it off, every time I look at my phone, it has re-enabled itself. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? it is killing my battery to have it constantly on 4G.

Rooted, running stock everything, if it matters.

Thanks!

You are going to need someone with a lot of experience to help you out with this question. I have never heard of anyone 4G just randomly enabling itself. Must be a hardware glitch in your phone in order for that to happen. Or there is an app that has permission to control 4G, which I doubt. Good luck brother.

Actually this has been an ongoing issue with 4g since the evo came out. Its usually caused by a widget. In december htc was supposed to have improved the stock widget to prevent this.

Do you have the latest software update? Are you using the stock widget or one from the market?

Ok, try to turn off 4g with any widget you have on your screen. If it doesn't go off that is ok. Now remove any or all 4g widgets from your home screen. Now turn your phone off and on. If 4g is on, go turn it off via settings. If its off go cycle it on and off once through settings. Now reboot your phone one more time.

I suggest not using any 4g widget or try to just use the stick htc one.

Actually, I am running Tasker, and I have some profiles that tinker with the wifi and data networks, but I don't have any that are addressed to WiMax in particular. Moreover, the profiles that toggle those do so when my battery is low, and this happens well before I hit that threshold, so I don't think it's Tasker that's doing it.

I am using Extended Controls from the market. Will give these things a try. Thanks!
