Help Improving EVO's Camcorder Audio-Video Quality?

Any way to improve the subpar audio-video camcorder quality on the EVO yet?

Is this a hardware issue, software-codec only or combination?

It would be nice if it were closer to Samsung's galaxy (1280x720-30 fps) quality..

Thanks,

The EVO's Camcorder can record in 1280x720 video size at (close to) 30fps. If you're experiencing dropped frame rates (jerkiness), try a faster SD card like I did. The stock 8GB Class 2 is minimal and my 16GB Class 6 is much smoother.

The audio quality, however, has been a topic of complaint for a while now. It's probably a codec issue but I've not seen a resolution or an app that does any better.

I have found that changing the way I hold the phone helps slightly in audio when recording...rather than holding it top bottom (power button, ports) , thus muffling the mic, I now hold it on the sides (volume buttons, blank side)

still not wonderful but better...and I use the 800x whatever mode. There was a thread a while back where sprint had a guy go through a bunch of wierd stuff like making a recording with the "recorder" then deleting it and THEN using the recorder and he claims it helped. Would have to search for the thread tho

i was wondering if that made a difference.

would it be too much to ask for "before and after" sample videos of the same subject in the same conditions?

Just threw down on a new Class 6 card.

NO improvement.

Trust me, I work in film and digital video as a director.

Still 20fps crap.

The HTC Evo 4G from Sprint is crap video, crap camcorder.

Can't believe they're trying to move on to 3d...

LG camera crashes.

Won't allow 720p H.264 recording.

Won't allow AAC...

How is LG improving your recording? It seems to not get past any limitations, but only give a new menu with many useless options.

I just want my Evo to record 720p H.264 w/ AAC at a sustained 24 or 30 fps...

Android is nowhere near Apple on this media stuff... :(

I have not forgotten that you need the settings. I work 12 hrs a day and have a 2 hr commute. I do what I can haha. I have today and tomorrow off so in between working on my car spending some time with the family and writing 3 how tos I am going to get you those settings lol.

Are you using 720x480?

Mine works fine at that setting and set to record at 3gpp or mp4.
Audio is set to aac recording h264
I am also rooted so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I haven't asked anybody in the Thunderbolt forum if HTC has fixed the camera/camcorder issues. I saw a review online saying the pictures of the Thunderbolt are on par with the iphone but not the camcorder I think.

Well.....I did some fooling around with roms today and had some issues with LG can on some roms. Something has definitely Been added to others codec wise. Doesn't help you stock folks any but hey......you were looking for a reason to root anyway haha
