In car camera

I just picked up the GPS car dock and while setting it up I noticed that the camera was exposed. I plugged it in and exited out of the car dock and fired up the camcorder.

It worked like a charm, this will be fun for the track days.

I took a 6min video that was just shy of 400mb, I have a 32GB card with 26 free. That as a gauge 6-6.5 hours of video, even with the stock 16GB card you get a decent amount.

If the mount will tilt enough The sunroof should be a good place to get good tack videos. I will find out as soon as i get the GPS mount. My G8 GXP has a sunroof.

i figured this out the other day too, just make sure you set it up so that you dont have part of the mount in the pic/video

I want to figure out how to mount it on my Harley. I'd like to take videos but would hate to lose the phone doing it.

For ROOTED/Wireless Tethered users:

Order the Droid X car windshield dock, mount a Logitech Pro 9000 webcam to the back of the dock, and download UStream Broadcaster from the Android Market. Like magic you can live broadcast 720p video right to the internet. SCORE!

CAREFUL!

Some HDPE's won't allow windshield mounted devices unless they are affixed to something else in the car. The trick is to wire (or string) it up to a vent/handle/oh-isht-bar, etc. Might want to bring a velcro strap, some might require the phone to be "attached" to the mount.

Probably not a big deal with some events, but just be prepared if you are planning on doing video!

Gotta love it, I've done quite a few videos like this with the car dock!

What is an "HDPE"?

I would assume the poster was referring to track safety inspectors, how HDPE comes in, IDK. Most event tech inspectors require all items in the vehicle to be solid mounted so they cannot come loose during rollover, etc.

unless the reference was to High Density PolyEthlene (plastic used to make many devices, including car docks...)
