Root In Need of Help - Complicated!

Yayeus1

Lurker
Hello.

I am attempting to apply an HTC Software Update to my Evo V which is necessary for me because it will fix my radio issues. In order to do this, I have to be completely on stock because I need to have the stock recovery for it to work.

I have already tried to run the RUU, but I cannot because I am on the 2.95.whatever update..

I am Unlocked and S-on.

I attempted to achieve S-off but it wouldn't work, it would just be stuck at the Juopunutbear logo on the screen after the wire trick.

I am on HBoot 1.58.00 and on a rooted stock rom.

Also, I have TWRP Recovery.

Case and point: I am trying to get on a stock kernel, recovery, and ROM in order to apply an update for my phone, and using a RUU doesn't work for some reason. I have also tried to flash the stock recovery but it would just show a red triangle with an exclamation point on it when I try to update.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you Android Forums!

Thanks, but I believe you linked me to the wrong Evo. I have a Virgin Mobile Evo V CDMA, not an Evo. Thanks for the reply anyways.

Yes I am currently on the DEODEX version of that ROM.. I tried to apply the OTA update through the phone AND through the recovery (TWRP) manually. Neither worked. What should I do? I really need the OTA update because my phone will not send SMS without it (its a known issue). RUU doesn't work for some reason either. Still S-on. Thanks!

im silly haha completely overlooked the fact that your bootloader is unlocked yes? in order to use the ruu you need to relock the bootloader on HTC devices.

if your familiar w adb the command in fastboot would be "fastboot oem lock"

if the RUU method still isnt working you may have to downgrade your bootloader. let me know if that (ruu method) works.

Okay so here is my current situation:

I relocked the bootloader, and it either shows me *** RELOCKED *** or that with a ** SECURITY WARNING **..

Anyways, I tried to run the RUU and it gives me a 155 ERROR.. and on the phone it says
"HBoot Version is older!
Update fail!"

I am currently on the JmzStock Odexed ROM and have the stock recovery flashed (but not really working..)

HBoot 1.58 and S-On.

Thanks.

Yes I've already seen that post, but I can't downgrade HBoot without S-off.. I just installed another ROM (Harmonia) to see if I can get S-off with that ROM (since thats how I got it last time).

I'll post results in a second.

This would be a whole lot simpler if you were S-OFF.

for sure haha

"f you rooted after installing the OTA you will need to downgrade your mainver by flashing this "SetMainVersionLOW.zip" file from recovery, then flash the 1.13.652.2 RUU and proceed with Step2 and the remainder of the guide."

did you try that?

Sorry guys, I went through a whole process of trying to get the RUU to work.

Everytime I try to use "fastboot oem lock", it tells me some stuff and says FAILED somewhere on the command prompt. Then, it shuts off the phone and when I boot into it, it goes into bootloader and tells me that the phone is ** RELOCKED ** and has a security warning underneath (***SECURITY WARNING***).

When I try to boot into the phone, it brings me back to the bootloader. Same with recovery, and I can't flash anything through command prompt using fastboot.

I got my phone to work by unlocking it again, and I re-installed Harmonia ROM through TWRP recovery.

I am still S-off, unlocked, and have no idea what to do.

P.S: I have already tried to run the RUU with the PG86IMG.zip way method. All it does is "flash" the zip and then doesn't do anything else..

Please help me! Thank you!

S-on my bad. And I flashed a stock ROM and will attempt to s-off through Ubuntu this time. Will post results after school.
Thanks.

You can't run the RUU with the 1.58 bootloader while s-on, you should try flashing the stock rom and then you'll need to flash the stock recovery also to be able to take the ota.

Let me start off by saying, I have no intention of coming back to this website to find anyone's answers to my questions because this is the 10th website I've had to create an account for to ask these questions so if you have an answer for me PLEASE PM ME, anyway, I have the htc evo v 4g and I've been trying to root it forever. Recently, I found a youtube video describing all the steps to take in extreme detail to use 4ext (How To Root HTC EVO 3D [CDMA/GSM - Sprint and Virgin Mobile, Android ICS 4.0.3, HBOOT 1.58] - YouTube) It worked fine but I noticed after rooting I wasn't able to install apps. So I tried to re-root without unrooting. It ended up deleting my stock RUU and so I was stuck on the green HTC logo screen with white background for ages. I was finally able to find a stock RUU and install it to the point where the phone would boot all the way. After doing this, google play store didn't work at all, wifi is giving me an "error" and won't turn on and the internet is especially slow. I heard that if you do a software update for the phone it should take care of this problem but when I do the update and the phone reboots, it boots into the 4ext menu and it doesn't install the software update. It just boots over again. What can I do to fix these issues and update my phone? If you have any more questions for me to narrow down the problem I completely understand and would love to tell you but please do it through my email address mentioned at the top.

UPDATE!! I think all I really need to do is install the phone updates and the wifi problem will be solved however, after the update downloads I immediately try to install it so the phone reboots. When it starts up it always goes into the 4ext menu and fails to install. How do I install these updates if 4ext doesn't allow them to install?
