Included 8GB SD Card Speed Results

I have a few MicroSD cards which are all stated as being Class 2 so I wanted to see which one was actually the fastest to use for my new DHD. Here are my results, I thought some of you may be interested.

I used CrystalDiskMark 2.2 with default settings.

Samsung SDHC Class 2 8Gb (Included with my DHD)

I have swapped to my Dane-Elec 16Gb card now.
 
Ok, here are the results:

Tests were done with CrystalDiskMark 3.0, 50MB, 2 tests. Each test was repeated twice.
 
I thought that 8gb would be enough. Clearly not hah. All the albums from Two Steps From Hell has left me with only 1 gb to spare lol
 
For someone who isn't a tech-geek like me lol can someone please explain what the results are of those tests. Which one was the fastest? Which one was best?

Also shame you didn't try Sandisk memory cards as they're very popular.

Basically we're looking at Read/Write speeds of various cards. My post is testing the included 8GB Samsung card, and the 16GB Lexar I paid for.

The Samsung is rated as 'Class 2' and the after-market card is 'Class 6', in essence the higher the class, the faster the card... but that's what we're trying to prove.

What the above means to you, is that applications reading/writing to the SD card (I move all my apps there), including music and most importantly films can only run to the speed of the card. With the Samsung card I was experiencing stuttering with some DIVX movies, where as now they run silky smooth.

Just got this phone today from Three and I got a crappy 2gb C2 card with mine, Luckily had a spare 16gb C6 lying around.
 
Are you 100% sure that your's did not include a SD card with it? I mean, the card comes preinstalled, and not with the other accessories in the box. Open the lower compartment on the back panel and check if there's a card or not?
If there is no card, was the box open when you received your phone?

If after all this checks you are still unable to find a card, then I dont know if you should report this to the seller or directly to HTC but if you read the User Manual there should be a "microSD™ card (preinstalled)"... This is part of what you paid for, and not a freebie... Claim it!

I realise what you were trying to do. But in terms of results, the Lexar card was better than the Samsung because it was Class 6 and not Class 2?
 
Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum.
I'm planning to buy Desire HD in near future (or at least I hope so)

Anyway, I guess I'll be using this forum a lot and I'd like to start contributing a bit even before i get my DHD! :D

I have two SanDisk 8GB MicroSDHC cards (Class 2 & Class 4) (link). Class 2 one died on me few months ago so I had to buy a new one. I currently use the one that's working (Class 4) in my N95. Well, here are the results:

Comparing to all the other results, I have to say I don't regret buying this card.

I hope I'll get a 8GB card with my DHD so that I can use it as secondary card if needed. I always carry around with me my MicroSD-to-USB plug so I can store secondary card in it - very hand, it has a lace so you can tie it to something or simply put in your pocket.
 
Yeah, it's a bit strange. Maybe because it's smaller capacity or maybe SanDisk's SDHC is simply better...
 
There's clearly not a lot between them.

For the sake of a fair test, I'll run it again on my W7 x64 machine at home, instead of on my crappy work D620...

Hello guys. I would like to ask anyone who upgraded there DHD with a better SD card whether there was any major improvement with the video recording. Please don't reply without testing. I would consider purchasing a class 6 if it definitely improves the fps and quality overall.
 
Interesting.
So is it possible that CrystalDiskMark is meaningless unless you test all the cards on the same PC?
I guess the read/write speed of the computer itself plays a part in it.
