Incompetent Verizon Store Rep

So Monday I just received my warranty replacement for my Moto Droid since my original device would freeze and crash everytime I tried to send a text. So when I got my replacement I get it setup then a few hours later everything on the phone shrinks. The icons are half their size along with all the text, the dialer on the phone shrinks and can't fill up the entire screen, its like the phone zoomed out on everything. It was in all my apps, Gmail, Pandora, Facebook and everything. First time I do a factory reset it fixes it for about a day and then its back to the same thing.

So I go in the store and they guy tells me he needs to look at what apps I have to make sure I don't have any prohibited apps. So he's going thru my phone and comes back and tells me he deleted SlideIT Keyboard since it had something to do with the keyboard and Launcher Pro because he didn't know what it did. And somehow it magically started working again (I feel like he reset something thats just gonna come up again) and then he proceeds to tell me I can't have Launcher Pro since it is messing my phone up. I then proceed to ask him why since it never caused any problems on my old phone and I have never heard of it causing any issues and I have never heard of it causing any issues.

Anyways I was wondering if you guys think Launcher Pro is causing the issues or the replacement phone I was sent. I'm thinking that if the issue comes back up again I'm going to call Verizon and get the issue worked out, it always seems the people in the store are incompetent and don't know what they're doing.

I've had the Droid 1 for almost 2 months now and I've been running LauncherPro on it since Day 1 with no problems whatsoever! Its the best and fastest launcher IMO. I think it has to do with your phone.

I've had my original D1 since launch day, so I've had plenty of experience with this particular unit. Launcher Pro has been my alt home for the past 8 months or so. I've run it on Cyanogen, BBv05, Lithium, and stock 2.2 (all rooted). NEVER have I seen a resolution issue like you're describing.
Closest I can imagine is resizing a widget in LP, which isn't the most elegant-looking operation, but still nothing that affects the entire screen like you're experiencing.
Sounds to me like there's something wrong with your hardware. Keep us posted if his "fix" of uninstalling LP eliminates the issue.

Remember: These are the same people who insist you should use a task manager on your Droid and kill apps regularly.

LauncherPro is great.

I've learned that a lot of the Verizon people are Android Ignorant and the iPhone isn't helping our cause. As for Launcher Pro, I paid Federico Carnales for the pro version because I like it so much. I seriously doubt that is what was causing your problem.

They get paid little - you get what you pay for.
Yep

In fact, when I picked up my Droid (or maybe it was way back when I was buying my blackberry), we were talking about wages for some reason. When he heard how much I made, he seemed very impressed (only average for our town at the time). Then I said, well, at least you're getting paid a lot more than the people across the street (McDonalds), to which he replied something like "no, not really"

this is why I love working for a retailer instead of corporate verizon, I dont get lumped in with those buffoons. when I get customers who root, have launcher pro etc, i am ecstatic since they actually understand their device more then "ooohhh shiney." verizon really needs to crack down on how they educate their employees.

Verizon needs to crackdown on how they educate their employees.

So, you want the folks in VZW corp stores, who get paid peanuts, to actually know WTH they're talking about? To be relative experts on Android as well as RIM as well as iOS, not to mention their wide variety of dumbphones?

Are you seriously kidding me? With the knowledge I have about Android alone (and granted ,it's not all that much because I've only ever owned the DROID, albeit since drop day....) I sure as hell would not be working there.

And therein lies the issue - knowledgeable people simply are not going to stick around very long making peanuts.

So, your statement is only half accurrate. It should read:

Verizon needs to crackdown on how they educate their employees and pay them accordingly so they will actually be better salespersons.

Unfortunately, most people going in to shop for phones know little more than they do, so it's a win-win situation for VZW - they save money on wages and/I] training.

Bow down before the one you serve. All-mighty Dollar!

Well the same thing happened this morning and I called verizon today and theyre sending me a warranty replacement, should be getting it on tuesday. Lesson learned, call verizon, then the people can't mess up your phone!

The phone reps seem to consistently be less annoying and incompetent than the store reps.

I'm not sure, but I think that could be because the phone reps are in front of a computer, and they probably type in questions they hear in search of the answer before their responses.

The floor reps at the stores, on the other hand, just wander from customer to customer releasing intestinal gasses into the room as a way of reminding them of their prior beloved job at Radio Shack.

had my droid 1 since the droid came out in dec of '09 been running launcher pro since june or july of '10...i can assure you that it is not the issue...sounds like a software issue...root and flash it in my opinion you have much more troubleshooting control

my moms like new replacement droid 2 was stuck in bootloader when we recieved it i told the rep that on the phone she said take it to the store and then i took it there and the ****** rep said idk what a bootloader is, seriously how pathetic, and you call yourself a tech

Did they replace it? Honestly, if you're smart enough to diagnose it yourself and the rep is an idiot, all they need to do is be able to replace it. The only issue with having idiot reps is if you have users who don't know what they're doing.

I was a VZW rep for a while and it honestly rarely pays off to know anything. Most of my customers couldn't find the power button let alone undersand what "open source" actually means. When I did get a tech-savvy customer, I felt like I hit the jackpot, lol. A large quantity of consumers buy the shiny phone, the "everyone has one "phone or the "it's free, right?" phone. It's no wonder the reps don't become more device educated.

At first I thought you were the typical whiny type but that sounds invasive and stupid. Next time a verizon guy asks to "check your apps" you better have something witty to say back and look for his reasons. Launcher pro saved my droid from literally freezing everytime i closed out of an app....its fast as hell even though my phone is starting to slow up bad...

Verizon store reps are pardon my french nucking fidiots (yes I changed that around haha). They claim to be exports on all things android and from the 5 stores in my area all brutually attack me if I say "iPhone" like little children. They are simply paid to sell products and they have no formal education on the topic. Its like your idiot neighbor telling you all medicine is bad but you have a cough and a medical doctor is offering something to fix it, why the hell would you listen to your incompitent neighbor over someone who knows there stuff? Doesn't make sense. I take the narcisstic approach when I know I'll be arm reselling with brain less puppets like verizon reps (lowest on the scale), salesmen, know-it-all nurses and overall people I know are either inclinded to lie about something to make a sale or talking out of there rear end, so I do my own research.

I had the OG Droid since a week after launch day, and just last month went over to the Fascinate. Every time i brick my Fascinate, which happens a lot, still learning my way around customizing that, i get out the Droid and fire it up, activate it and go from there. I cant be without a phone. Anyway i call the Verizon store and ask for a tech. This tech gets on the phone asking what kind of problem i am having with my phone, maybe he can tell me how to fix it right over the phone. I tell him that after rooting the SF and installing a custom rom, somehow i bricked it, do you have the stock Verizon android 2.1 that if i bring it in you could flash on my phone. He says you are gonna have to call your insurance, i cant help you, i don't know what rooting, roms or bricks have to do with a phone, were you using it in the garden?...WHAT??? and your a tech. Is there an IQ test that you are required to fail to work here?

No BS this really happened to me 2 weeks ago.

Just an FYI, moto/VZW will be very disinclined to help you if you tell them you're rooted and ROMed.

Agreed but its embarrassing that a tech doesn't even know what that is...Yesterday I went to sears to ask something about my family's snow blower and I asked him if he knew how to convert horsepower to CC's since all the new snow blowers are in CC's now and he was like "I don't know what CC's are but its probably on the internet". People if your going to sell something you better know what your talking about...

It's pretty much impossible to convert horsepower to CCs... A cubic centimeter is a measure of displacement... Horsepower is a measure of power.

There is no standard that says "x horsepower == engine size of x CCs" or vice versa....
