Speculation here in the speculation thread. Maybe this 4g3 is being held up because multitasking is such a problem in the one series phones. Also a lot of dissatisfaction with the multitasking in the lte evo thread. Just a speculation though.

But seeing as the One series screens range from 4.5" (X) to 4" (V), & I doubt Verizon is waiting this long to unveil a One V (at the least they'll go with a One S). So I'd be in the same boat as I am now, just with a spec bump (screen size the same or bigger I mean).

I was looking forward to the One X on VZW. I'm still using the OG Dinc and wanted to continue supporting HTC. However, when it didn't launch on VZW, I had little hope of it coming.
Don’t expect an HTC One device from Verizon any time soon And since it doesn't appear, as I suspect, we will get a One X variant, ever, I'm switching to the S III. Still want the Incredible 4G LTE for my girl but don't expect it to be released anytime soon.

I think that's the first plausible explanation for the delay.

Someone mentioned a rep told them it was due to the patent/customs deal, and that's just an employee who's read the bare minimum on the subject and offered that as a solution.

I don't think Verizon is delaying it to get shared data in place. If they were gonna delay a phone for that reason, it would've been the SGS3 plain & simple. The Incredible line is popular but going by the industry, the majority of people are going for the biggest, most specced out phone. You already see it in the comments section in places like Phandroid, Engadget, Droid Life, etc. "Why are they releasing such a small phone?" Most people just see small screen & automatically file it into lower or midrange. So if Verizon wanted to leverage a phone to force you to switch to share data, it would be the SGS3 or the Razr HD (which I believe is the one that will do exactly that).

But the multitasking issue affects anyone looking at HTC as a possibility, whether they're unlimited or tiered data users, small or big phone proponents, etc. And I'm guessing since it sounds like that multitasking "feature" is deeply embedded, you might be looking at a revamp of Sense 4 to make that happen.

Thanks Today for bringing that up. I honestly never thought about that when considering the Incredible 4g. I assumed that only affected the One series, & maybe that's the case. You'll need every bit of juice when you have a non-removable battery. But that may very well be a "feature" of Sense 4, which will affect any HTC phone released this year. It would give me pause when considering the phone. Mutlitasking is one of, if not the main benefit of Android. Rather than removing that to improve battery life, why not put a bigger battery in it? So now I'll definitely wanna see some reviews of the Inc4g before picking it up to see if multitasking is intact.

That makes me feel better about the Incredible 4G, unless the guy porting it was able to get multitasking working. That would also shoot multitasking down as a reason for the delay.

Just curious, how do you know it's a One series port and not a Sense 3.6 port or a combo of the two? Does it have the ImageSense software? The reason I ask is that if they just ported the One series software over, the multitasking should be the same as on the One X, S, & V. Perhaps they melded the One software with Sense 3.6, I don't know. But like I said, if they only messed with drivers to get Sense 4 from the Ones to work with your Inc2, all the other stuff should work the same as they do on the One phones, including multitasking. Anyone have anything to conrtibute on this?

EDIT: Found Primo HawkSense. Says it Sense 4.0, but with all the modding done on it, I wonder if they did in fact get multitasking working from something like a Sense 3.6 Rom. The only way to know would be to ask the devs I guess.

See that could either mean a bug in their port or that it came with One style multitasking and they somehow remedied it. I don't know about you but I don't understand why companies like HTC & Moto don't contract their updates out to people like on xda. Yes the first builds may be buggy, but I'll bet if the xda guys got the software at the same time the oems do, they'd have a build for wide release in about half the time.

My guess is that the xda guys don't have to deal with whatever corporate redtape the HTC guys have to put up with to get things done. Just a guess though. Maybe there isn't any redtape to go through at all.

I'm sure you're right, and that's why they should do it. Faster updates might not mean that everyone will jump on every phone you sell, but it would make people less hesitant to go with an oem. Doesn't matter who you are, if you root you'll get a finished Rom for root sooner, & those who don't will see updates quicker as well.

I'm starting to wonder if it has less to do with the oems & more to do with the carriers. The longer they hold up an update, the more chance people will cave and upgrade their phones. Plus the fact that Verizon is in the driver's seat. They tell the OEMs how many phones they want & when. Once the OEM sells the phones to the carriers, they got their money, now the carriers need to get theirs. And when you think about updates, Verizon has final approval on them, so they could hold them up indefinitely if they wanted to. Something to think about.

Was going to get this phone for the wife. What do you all mean by "Doesn't multi-task well". This sounds like a deal breaker to me and reason enough to jump on the sgs3.
 
I've been following this thread for about a month now and am pretty close to giving up on this phone. This has been almost demoralizing.

I know the nearly 5" screen is astronomical, but the thinness of the phone should make it okay in pockets, and using it to read books and watch video on trips and commutes should be really awesome. On the flip side, this phone just looked plain ridiculous when I saw people carrying it around in Hong Kong. If the phone sells as well as it's predicted to, then maybe it'll become the 'norm' here.

Also on the plus side, I would imagine the gs3 to be supported by Samsung/Google/Verizon for the entire life cycle of a contract, and possibly further than that (that is, until a Galaxy s4 comes out or something).

The only thing that might change my mind would be if the Inc4g comes out this Thursday, otherwise, if it were to come out NEXT Thursday or even the one after, I would rather wait it out 1 or 2 more weeks and do a comparison.

All this discussion about the shared data plans is of little concern to me in any case. The most data I've ever used in a month was about 950 MB, and this gives me an opportunity to get my dad a smartphone on our family plan finally.

Has anyone else given up hope?
 
This is crazy, Verizon just announced the HTC Rezound 4G on their homepage for $79.99 w/ 2 yr contract Reg $199.99.

I'd say that puts the Incredible 4G to hit soon. LOL

Question about 4G and sim cards: if I upgrade to the Rezound before the 28th and then don't like it and upgrade to the Incredible 4G on my son's line when it comes out, how do we then switch phones? Is it just a matter of switching the sim cards? Or do I go online and do the ESN switch thingy? Then would have to go into a store and each get a new sim card?

I guess I don't really understand how sim cards work with CDMA on the LTE phones. Does everything about your phone now go onto the sim card as is done with GSM phones, or is it just the LTE stuff? I'm assuming your google info stays with the phone until you reset it and is not stored on the sim card?

If they are both microsims you should be able to just swap them out and be done. If they are different sizes, then you will need to go to a store to get new Sims.
