Incredible S gets the ICS update but not Incredible 2?

Hopefully not forever :-) End of August has already been documented so we should at least wait until then before giving up. Unfortunately if it doesn't happen fairly soon it will become irrelevant - people will just move on to other phones. I'm already considering the GS3 and if I get it the Inc2 will become a backup - I really won't care at that point whether or not it gets ICS.
 
I have to say, if I'm VZW, I'd hold this off for as long as possible (maybe forever). I would use ICS as a way to get people to upgrade, and hopefully move as many of them off of the unlimited plans as possible.

I'm not saying they are doing that, but that's what I'd do if I were them.

since there's no good upgrade option they will lose a lot of customers.
 
When they see the next set of new phones on other carriers they will slam the ICS update to us. With any luck it will have been tested enough to not brick very many phones. :/ By then I will probably be running Jelly Bean or Key Lime Pie.

VZW also has incentives to update phones, such as addressing bugs, security vulnerabilities and closing the loopholes that allow people to root (thanks to XDA for their ongoing hacking :) ). I think deciding whether or not to update is a practical consideration - they have to weigh the cost of developing, testing, pushing out and supporting updates against the over all profit generated by a phone. They also have to consider if the hardware can properly support a newer OS so that people have a better and not a worse experience after updating. If there really was zero incentive for them they wouldn't do it at all :D

That said, I still want my ICS...In fact now I want Jelly Bean, but that ain't gonna happen...
 
The Eris was outdated 6 months before it came out and it served me fine. I still have a year on my contract so my Incredible 2 is just going to have to last. By then Verizon will have.... no new phones. :(

What do you mean by outdated? Do you mean it will not receive updates, or are you referring to performance/features?
 
As bberry said with the Eris, my DInc2 was outdated by the time I bought it. The Thunderbolt was out BEFORE the DInc2 with 4g, 1.3 front cam, 8GB of internal storage, and probably some other stuff I don't remember but beating the DInc2 hands down on paper.

It may have been out of date by the time it was released but the DInc2 was still a superior phone in my opinion.

I think the DInc4G will be an excellent phone for those that get it.

This is OT, but I've heard this before that the SG3 screen is inferior - what is different about the tech? I saw one in the store and the screen looked very good, but I couldn't take it outside to see how readable it was in bright light.

And as to when phones are out of date that's really subjective. It could be said that the SG3 was instantly out of date when Google announced Jelly Bean, but that just seems silly :)

I went back to VZW Saturday to compare my Inc4G to the GS3, with serious thoughts of returning the Inc4G for it. That is, until I played with the GS3. Other than screen size (which is 100% subjective), I think the Inc4G is better in every way. TouchWiz is a joke, the screen is terrible (yes, terrible), and for me, the GS3 is way too big (again, subjective). I walked out of there very happy with my Inc4G.

And to call the Inc4G "outdated" is simply ridiculous. The only phone on VZW that can even remotely compete with it is the GS3. It blows every other VZW phone out of the water.

And if it had a 4.3" screeen I would pay whatever it took to get it right now.
I may still get it when I'm due for an upgrade if that HTC 4.3" doesn't show it's face by then.
