Root Infinite Rebbot?

So I go to restore my Evo to the very first backup that I created which was the regular HTC Stock Sense theme but rooted. When I go to restore it, it restores fine and even gives me a "Restore Complete!"

Then I go and reboot and it starts doing that annoying Sprint reboot logo with the 4G sign and such but then it does it again and again and again...until finally a pull out the battery and rebooted it back into recovery. Then I try to restore it again thinking that it just didn't restore correctly. The same thing happens again. I restore again and it happens again. So now I'm trying to restore my latest restore that I created before trying to restore and it's giving me issues now with starting such as just staying on the "htc EVO 4G" black and white screen...

I used the Calkin's Format before doing one last restore too (I know it doesn't do anything for the restore but who knows).

I am using ClockWorkMod recovery...kinda stupid but yeah, I'm on it.

I have a few other backups that I created and I've tried them and the same thing is happening with them too. I'm afraid to flash a completely new ROM to the phone but I may give it a shot.

Any thoughts?

I was restoring because my CM7 ROM is giving me GPS issues and someone told me to restore a Sense ROM to fix the issue then come back to CM7.

You should always do a full wipe before restoring.

You could try doing a wipe of both caches, system, and data then try your restore.

Once you get your sense rom working again, download GPS tester app from the market. Run it and wait for at least 7 GPS sats to lock in. Go do recovery and wipe both caches and system before flashing cm7 back.

That's what Caulkin's Format does. It wipes your phone of anything and everything. I tried doing it that way and manually, still nothing. The phone either doesn't boot or reboots continuously forever.

Thanks but it's a little more than that. What happened is that in the ASOP ROMs, well some of them, the GPS cannot find you correctly and some believe that it is the problem of the ASOP ROM running 2.3 and not having something worked out correctly. What happens is that we need to go back to a Sense ROM, type in a number with some digits and then our MSL code and then the GPS will be reset then the ROM can run fine again. You are required to restore or use a Sense ROM because they are the ones that can use this functionality built into the phone whereas the ASOP ROMs can't do this. Or at least some can't.

But anyway yeah, thanks for the answer though.

I assumed you read how to do the fix. Obvisious you did... entering your msl code from a sense dialer clears your GPS data. Its up to you if you want to lock in some sats to rebuild that data before reflashing. Also you can play Russian roulette with not wiping the locations I stated, especially system, before restoring cm. Keep in mind anything more and you wipe what you just fixed.

there is actually no need to wipe when restoring a nandroid backup. that is part of the process as it restores the nandrpid backup. however, i have found that cwm does not really wipe very well and can create situations such as this. if you can't find a working nandroid, my recommendation then is to switch recoveries. i have yet to hear that an amon ra nandroid not working.

Yeah, I love Amon-Ra. I just didn't use it with this root on this new phone because I wanted to see firsthand what it was like. Amon was perfect and flawless. I never had a problem because of Amon. I may end up switching now and just leaving my backups in CMW.

That's what I had heard very early on when I first starting learning how to root my Evo, that wiping data doesn't do anything for a backup restoration. I did it anyway after I had tried everything else just to make absolute sure.

Well, I might switch over to Amon right now and just flash a new ROM to it from there. I was hoping to get my old Sense Stock back and kinda start out fresh but it's cool. I can unroot and realize that but I'll just stick to this.

I'll update you guys on what happens. Thanks for the answers. I really appreciate them.

I really do wish I could find out what happened to the continuous reboot though...

Alright, so I flashed Amon Ra to my phone. Then I flashed EViO ROM to my phone and it started up kinda slower than usual but then it started up as it should with the boot screen. It seems to be taking slower than usual as well. (I'm writing this as it happens in real time) Now the screen came on and it's at the Android screen :D I went into the dialpad, entered the codes and it said that it was rebooting. Now it's rebooting. This is either really slow or I haven't used EViO in a while and forgot that it was slow. Now it started back up and I'll reboot into recovery and flash the fresh CM7 ROM.

Thanks guys for the help! I didn't find my problem, but it was solved in terms of me getting to get back to the Android homescreen.

i think your problem was cwm. lol nice that it is up and running. don't forget to make a nandroid backup with amon ra as your cwm will not work with amon ra.

For sure lol thanks. I've used this before, both versions, so I guess it's back to using Amon Ra! lol This long boot process seems to be just for the EViO for some reason. Maybe Sense ROMs take longer to load or something...I did the little hack...well I'll update the other thread I had going with that problem ;) lol
