Help Infinity instability and lag issues

I've had my TF700T since Jan and, except for some lag issues. am very happy so far. My s/n begins with "CB0". Is the C90 mentioned in these posts newer than mine?

With the revision of 4.1.1 in January it fixed a bit of stability issues on the tf700, however it is not noticable until you did a full reset. With 4.2.1 coming out in the next month or so Hopefully it will solve some problems but I am sure it will bring more. Also after a month or two or use, if hardware problems havent occured more then likely they wont unless it was from a drop or something. Dead pixels and black lines occur on the tf700 at times but usually a few restarts solves it in the end. I personally after 2 months of having mine i unlocked it, flash twrp via fastboot, and flashed Cromi/CleanRom. Have had no problems since. The only thing I do hate is I like testing and forget to do backups and lose stuff, but other then that I have a pleasant time on my tf700. Some lag occurs due to the Tegra3 having to push a full hd screen but I would expect if it is not caused from faulty driver or something in that area it would be happening to the nexus 10 similarly.

^^^^ So true. I can't believe I didn't unlock and put CROMI on it sooner. It fixed so many issues that I was having. It really is a shame that I had to do it in the first place, but at least there was something I could do rather than just having to live with it.

I 100% agree with you haha. both Cyanogen and Cromi both work perfectly on the tf700. There are a few others but none are as good as those 2. It fixes most issues and I am eager to see sbdags 4.2.1 Cromi version. :D

I have issues with mine, but I'm still happy with the device. I guess it's the level of tolerance we each have to glitches. That said, I'd seriously think twice before getting another ASUS device.

I have not explored flashing a custom ROM. But I am bootloader unlocked and rooted. I've read in multiple forums now that Cromi seems to fix all issues that ASUS seemed to struggle with. I may give this a shot.

I'm a big fan of the easy bootloader unlock. I've never been one to worry about warranty. If something fails, it's gonna be hardware, not my firmware tinkering. And if it's indeed hardware, I can make a good warranty case that unlocking had nothing to do with the problem.

Cromi work great, as well as cyanogen Mod. I have been experimenting on both and I am finding that Cyanogen Mod seems to have more stability. The browser seems seems to run better on cyanogen mod, with browser2ram but since is it a 100% non-stock it will have its minor issues. Cromi is an awesome Rom and go between both Cromi and Cyanogen mod to test things out. The only problem is it seems each has its own kernal so you have to install it fresh, then restore the backup over it to get the same kernal and such together. But eithe ror works great and since you are already rooted, download GooManager, install openscript recovery, then just simply flash. After, after flashing from the stock rom you do not want to go back as installing the stock will wipe your custom recovery. Either way, there is no point in going back to stock, as Cromi runs better overall. Over in XDA someone was selling their tf700 and asked about if they should put stock back on it. In truth that would just be a mistake as the stock runs worse than Cromi. And it wouldnt hurt anything leaving it Cromi. In truth this tablet only has its problems with lag, hardware wise is the Tegra 3 having a tough time pushing a full HD Screen. The tf700 was one of the first if not the first with an hd screen. Plus the dock for typing which is a huge plus over tapping or swyping. Anyways let me finish this paragraph off with good luck and will tell you that you will not be disappointed with Cromi, or Cyanogen mod, whichever you choose from. Happu Flashing.

In all serious novox, you'd be amazed how much better it runs with cromi. I was complacent with the lag, and decided to do it on a whim. Now that I have, I feel like a fool for not doing it sooner.

I always had to run it in performance mode to make it bearable. I can now use it in balanced mode and still not experience lag.

How do you install CROMI?

I'm going to use my Tf700 for a paper weight and get the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 if I can't resolve the lag issues!!!

You have to be unlocked, and rooted with custom recovery installed. Once you agree at that point, download the rom provided by the link in the all things root guide. Once downloaded, flash that in custom recovery. After is done installing, reboot and you'll be running cromi :)

1. Unlock your boot loader via the ASUS Unlock tool(which voids factory warranty)
2. Install a custom recovery, Via fastboot or rooted device, I suggest use the ADB tool that will automatically fastboot for you, and use TWRP 2.4.4 as it is the only one that is thought that is going to work on the new bootloader when ASUS releases 4.2.1. Can only help prevent bricking in the future.
3. Nandroid Backup your current rom in TWRP by clicking backup. Name it what you wish and just backup what is already checked.
4. Download Cromi 3.4.6, put it on microSD card, and boot into TWRP 2.4.4 and flash/install. If you do not know what to pick, just go with what the installer already has checked.
All of the programs can be found over at XDA. The unlock tool is at ASUS for download or can be downloaded from XDA as well. The ADB tool and cromi ROM are in the Development section of XDA. I would read over all of the guides and such before doing anything just to make sure you got it down. The only one that can do it is you, so hopefully you do it right and do not end up with a real paperweight.

Not sure if this was brought up or not but I did some research on slow TF700T and found a reference to limiting the number of background processes under the developer options. I enabled developer options and limited background processed to 4. All I can say is I wish I found this sooner. Night and day difference. The tablet is super responsive to changing and opening apps. I have not found any downside to this setting so far but so far, so good.

Anyone else found this recommendation to be helpful?

BOOM! This is good stuff. Will have to research if there is a downside but talk about instant gratification.

Sounds great! How/where do I enable developer options?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Found it! Jelly Bean took away Developer Options. Here is the way to bring it back and speed up your TF700T ...
1] Go to Settings > About
2] Tap 7 times (exactly 7) on Build Number.
3] Developer Options has now been restored.
4] Go to Settings > Developer Options
5] Scroll down to Limit Background Processes, click here and select 4.
6] Enjoy your new tablet!
I should create an app that does this for us. I can pack it with 20mb worth of files just to make you think it is a complex fix that is actually doing something. It will ask for network, phone, text access. :)
I returned it a day later.
That is too bad. Sorry to hear that.
Considering how simple this is to implement, I am surprised that Asus did not just change the standard limit to the number of processes that can run in the back ground. Surely they have tools to monitor things like run queue and can properly prioritize processed which directly relate to user input to make this work seamlessly. How embarrassing!
It makes sense that this helps the lag issues, but it does cripple the multi tasking capabilities. Part of the rain ios runs so smoothly is because it prohibits simultaneously running tasks. It's too bad Asus couldn't fix the issue where the developer who makes cromi could.
Also, it seems that each time we restart, the number of background processes goes back to standard limit. Need to see if I can reach out to Asus to get this as a persistant setting.
Well, I suspect all of the junk we download must have autostart features to them that just overwhelm the OS. Granted, the OS should be able to properly prioritize these settings. In the absence of proper prioritization, just keep them from all running at once. Google should be warning us in the play store when we download an app that it is autostarting processes, just like they warn us of the abilityy for an app to control phone or messages. Just a theory.
