ohh ok so the difference is nightly fixes them faster, instead of all at once, yea im gonna stick with rc1 till im more familliar with all this :D

There is a certain way to do this though so that you do not have to completely wipe your Sprint HTC Hero. I am not completely sure if what I said previously about Dalvik Cache was correct, so I would ask someone who knows for sure.

Some say wipe Davlik cache and cache and some say don't worry about wiping both.

I've wiped both all along since the 810 nightly and never had an issue with boot loops. So I would, imo

Flash the RC1 and let it boot up, then you will have to boot into recovery and flash the addon zip file.

Then you will be able to set up your phone with your google account, access to the market and so on

awesome! thank you soooo much! is it true that visual voicemail and some other apps go away? and how do you manually get rid of unwanted apps like nfl and stuff that ppl say they remove to speed up

The RC1 and the google addons are pretty much bone stock. No sprint stuff will be on there and no HTC widgets will be on there. If you want Sprint voicemail, you are going to have to flash the Sprint VVM file. I use google voice
 
I think you can just install the Sprint Visual Voicemail .apk file directly from your microSD card. If you Google it, you will find it pretty easily.

Yes, andygu3 is right about the other Sprint/HTC apps and widgets. They will not be found on your CyanogenMod 6 ROM at all. If you ever flash a different ROM, like Fresh 2.4, you will see HTC apps and widgets again. Most of the widgets, like Sprint TV and so forth can be reinstalled manually after you flash a new ROM.
 
I DID IT!!!!!!!!!! it worked!!!!!!! thank you guys so much! im soooooo exited about this! and its weird becuase now instead of showing ev speeds is shows 3g. iv never seen that on my sprint phones, and just out of curiosity it seams to be a bit slow, how do i change that jit and processor stuff to make it run quicker?

Go into menu, settings, cyanogenmod settings and check jit (it says reboot phone after checking) then reboot

If you want, you can overclock with Overclock Widget or SetCPU from the market. But you will have to flash an uncapped kernel
 
Rebooting in general after a fresh install of a new ROM will probably speed things up a bit anyway. That is what I have read at least.

By the way, andygu3, what is the frequency range of the CPU on CyanogenMod 6? I know it maxes at 691 MHz, but what is the minimum range when its on a low load or asleep?

19200-768000

On the latest nightlies you can overclock the stock kernel to 768 without flashing an uncapped kernel

I have mine set right now with the #13 uncapped at 556-768 with JIT enabled
 
Wow, 19.2 MHz? I wonder if that would cause waking problems or make background tasks like pulling email while the screen is off have major delays.

Does it just step up the MHz in a linear fashioning depending on CPU load? I suppose if it does that then it should not be a problem because it would probably never fall to the minimum MHz even if it was asleep.

There used to be a bug with one of the first overclocked roms, where it would lock into 19 mhz, and never ramp up. It happened to me, and it sucked. I had to nandroid back and couldn't ever get the o'clocked rom to work.
 
hey guys, my other question is what the best way to backup all of my apps and there settings now that iv rooted. i used to use appsaver which saves a copy of all the .apk apps to the memory card, this was a little helpful in the sence that now with the freshly flashed rom i installed them all and didnt have to remember what i had. but there was 2 problems with it. 1.) i couldnt install them all at once using the app i had to click install one at a time, and then i had to change the setting to let it install non market apps (even though they were all from the market because it was installing them from the sd card). the other problem is after i did that none of them showed up in my market downloads meaning it will never offer me updates for them. so i had to manually search and redownload all of my apps. is there any apps that will backup all my apps for the future for when i flash roms, so that my phone will redownload them all from the backup (AND ALSO HAVE THERE UPDATES SHOW UP IN THE MARKET!) iv heard of titanium but idk if that will do what im asking? any suggestions cuz its a pain to keep redownloading all of these apps

Ti Backup FTW! It works great, but you need the paid version.
 
Try Titanium Backup. I think it will backup your apps and settings even between ROM images.

You would have to reinstall Titanium Backup if you went to a new ROM image but then it would bring back your settings and apps for you. I probably will do the same thing when I get that far.
 
also im getting double text messages (1 from messages 1 from handcent). u used to be able to clear the defaults for messaging and leave them for handcent but now both say theres no defaults (meaning i cant stop messaging from recieving it too... what should i do?

Just go into the messaging app, and turn notifications off.

wow. that was such a dumb question on my part that i should have thought of. thank you. and is there a way for me to just completely uninstall messaging? because with handcent i wont even use it

No, you can't because handcent runs by piggybacking the stock app. if you uninstall the stock one, no more messages.

oohh ok :) thanks! iv got my phone running smoothly with 2.2!!!! and everythings set up and working. im very exited and appreciative for everyones enoromous ammount of help!
 
Open the app, click on backup/restore, push the menu hard key, touch batch, select backup all user apps and data. It will take a little while to finish...

sweet! thats working now :) thanks so much, and the last two things that i can think of before im ready to go is 1.) how come now at the top of the screen (next to where it shows how many bars of service i have) it shows 3g with 2 arrows? when i was running 2.1 it always showed ev or 1x. now i know the phone is capeable of 3g speeds. but in all the time of having the phone i never once saw 3g on android 2.1. how come updating to 2.2 is giving me 3g speeds in my bedroom now? im not complaining im just wondering why i didnt have 3g speeds before too being as the phone was always capeable of 3g speeds.

and 2.) is it true that with a rooted phone you can get all the paid apps for free? for example... getting the full version of shazam and having unlimited tagging again? im not much worried about it because when they came out with the update i never updated and using appinstaller it saved a copy of the old version to my sd. so i installed it off my sd and still have the old version with unlimited tagging :D but it would be nice to get the new features too without loosing the tagging ability
