I am having problem installing vorkernal xmas edition HAVS/BFS froyo wififix zip. I went into Amon ra RECOVERY > WIPE > WIPE CACHE / WIPE DAVLIK-CACHE. Then I went to install ZIP FROM SDCARD but this happens..

install from sd card...
finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:Wrong digest:
system/lib/modules/bcm4329.ko
E: Verification failed

Installation aborted.

Am I doing this wrong? Is this zip flashable?? by the way Im S-ON.

it is
in recovery go to advanced or other and toggle signature verification

its using koutts kernal flasher and half the time people forget to sign the zips

I found a free setCPU app on xda forum but I am slightly confused it comes in a zip file does that mean I have 2 flash it through recoverly? I tried to download it through Xda app but it doesnt work for some reason!?

Depends what the zip file folder structure is. If its just an apk you have to install it. If its in a folder called system or data then in app, its probably flashable

Still confused. I copied the file to my computer then using SDreader i moved it to the root of sd card. The file is "setcpu_2.10zip" once i click it i found _MACOSX, readme txt, setcpu_2.10-donate.apk

Extract the .apk file onto your SD card and then click on it using Astro or other explorer. Choose the install option then you're done

yes.
in the zip hold on the apk and click extract
it will send it to /sdcard/extracted

click to install

Already done that mate. Thanx Again. Now what is the best way to get the best battery performance? Im using vorkkernel xmas edition HAVS BFS froyo wifi fix. I got this mainly cos I read somewhere its stable and it improves battery performance. Right now this is what showing on my setCPU:

245mhz scaling ondemand.
998 max 245 min

the bar is showing:
max: 998400
min: 245000

By the way what is set on boot?

Depends if you want set CPU to work automatically when you turn on your phone or not

Ok I'l bear that in mind. In the meantime what should I do to increase battery performance? Im complete novice at this so Im scared of messing around so idealy Id like somebody to tell me how much should I tweak and at what setting should I stick to for now? Once im familiar with this I'l give it a go meself.

Set a screen off profile with min and max at lowest. Set scaling to performance. If you have lag at screen on, set profile scaling to same as main tab (on demand)

Most ROMs have the profile you're on at present set as stock. My ROM is set to 245 when screen is off and then on demand up to a maximum of 998 when screen is on. Took off charge at 7:30am and still on 78% battery - but it hasn't been used cause I'm in work but Wi-Fi is on constantly and FB/Twitter/weather update every hour and email is on push alerts (1 Gmail accounts)

I don't use setCPU as this suits me fine

You gotta elaborate on that Dan. Dont know what your on!!? lol I need somebody to tell me what is the best setting to begin with.

Ok might just leave it for the moment then. Lets see how my battery behaves in the next 24hrs. By the way Im a lil concerned I selected autodelect is that ok?? Heard its unstable is that true?

You want it at "keystroke" level?

Seriously? All these options are obvious

Open set CPU

Press profiles

Tick enable

Press add profile

In the profile drop down, select screen off

Set max to as low as it goes

Set min to as low as it goes

Set scaling to performance

Press save

If when you turn on the screen, you find the phone slow to respond, change the scaling in the profile to on demand, if that is what you have set on the main tab

Pretty sure if you looked at what.I wrote and looked at set CPU, that would have made sense

Sorry Dan your right I didnt look at setCPU properly. Anyways Ive figured out that setting is underclocking my Desire cos Ive noticed my battery life has extended. It was abit sluggish on performance so I switched to ondemand so its smoother now. Should I add more to the profile list or it isnt necessary?? In the meantime I am going to do abit of research online to try and understand the whole underclocking malarky!

Well you can set battery profiles too, so that under a certain percentage of battery, it will drop to a set cpu clock speed, but personally I dont feel it necessary. Most of the time your screen is off, so the screen off profile will be doing its thing anyway.

Also, whats the point running a smartphone with a great cpu, underclocked? Kind of defeats the point.

Most custom kernels are undervolted anyway. This means that at the full 998Mhz, your kernel means you use less power than the full 998 on a stock kernel. Even overclocked, you can still be using less power than 998 stock.
