Help installing new SD card

i just got a new 16GB microSDHC card, but i don't think my phone is able to recognize it. when i restarted my phone, it shows the SD card and no signal icons in my notification bar. i pulled out the preinstalled SD and put this one in it's place then rebooted a couple of times.

what am i doing wrong??

It might not like a blank card. Try copying the files from the first card to the second on another device. You'll have to copy hidden files too.

Also make sure it's formatted for FAT32, there should be an option to do this on the phone. Go into Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage, and see if there's anything you can do in there.
