Installing the OTA 2.1 file

I think anyone that did the manual 2.1OTA update can still get root!!!

I just dowloaded the root pb00img.zip file and tried to load......it sees it as a valid file and asks if I want to update......very low battery right now....will have to try the rest after I get off work today.

You can easily install the Droid 2.1 gallery APK.

Also, now that I've toyed with it and all my applications are back to how I like them, task killer says I have 50 megabytes of free ram. On 1.5, I would normally have near 30 MB. So 2.1 must be much more efficient in many respects.

2.1v3 does not mean rooted.......some ppl have a 2.1v3 type of root but most are not, and they cant get root either......so this is BIG news for those of us that held out until the OTA hit.
 
At the Android System Recovery Utility. Selected apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S], and this happened...

--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...

Installation aborted.

are you still on 1.5 or are you on 2.1 already??
 
I'm on leak v3

2 bars @ -82 and I am 300 yards from a verizon cell tower. In 1.5 I was always a solid 4 bars here. I really want to go back to 1.5. It might be time for my phone to have an "accident". It is insured.

I know what rooted and leaked mean. Perhaps i am not explaining my thoughts very well.
 
Wow, two big issues with this update

1) NO VOICE TO TEXT!

2) google maps does not have pinch to zoom even after updating it in the market.

Anybody have a clue as to whether or not these can be fixed?

It's not supposed to...VZW originally said it would but everyone that has gotten the OTA says it doesn't exist....and suddenly VZW changed the release notes and pinch to zoom and voice to text are removed from the upgrade list....hmmmm

They can be fixed, but there has to be a bigger reason why they are missing in the first place.
 
Did the manual OTA update (from 1.5)... now I don't think I'll be able to get any work done... Friday + 2.1 = No work!
 
I was running Android 1.5 on my Eris 15 minutes ago. Now I'm fully running Android 2.1. Thanks for this post.

John the PDF on the support site still shows those features.
