Installing the OTA 2.1 file

Well the other day they had been removed...and that was the general consensus on the forums was that these two features along with the friendstream were not going to be available...VZW had made a mistake

In other words...no one that has gotten the OTA has been able to find these features

I remember OTD making the statement but even when it was said the PDF had not changed.

Look under the 2.1 bugs and fixes sticky thread...I remember something about switching to "airplane" mode and temporarily fixing the signal bar issue....however its only temporary...not an actual "fix"
 
Just did the manual upgrade with the 7.7mb file from v1.5. Took about 37 minutes with reboot. Sat at several screens (deleting files, VZW, black htc, loading...) for a long time...a bit worrisome. Phone initially came up with no icons on desktop and unable to access menus. I rebooted again and again, "loading..." for several minutes. Finally came back to life.
 
I was on stock 1.5 and successfully upgraded to 2.1... and it even saved my home's WiFi settings cause at bootup I had a full signal. Much thanks to arothrock for posting the instructions.
 
i had the same prob check the name i look at the file name it was update.zip.zip del the last zip off in the rename and it worked

okay, so i'm obviously pretty new here, (hi everyone!) read through this entire thread, and still have one question before i take the dive.

if i flash this ota leak, it's still highly likely that i'll bel able to continue getting minor fixes etc ota, correct?

thanks guys, been creepin the forums for a while, thought i'd properly introduce myself by asking a (hopefully not annoying) question

Well when I flashed the leaks to my phone, putting it in airplane mode for several minutes while charging it would show more signal bars for a while then it would revert back to the original problem

Dang, are you Captain Correct Me today? :P

Select the update.zip folder in the download file. Long press and select Edit. Select Move. Select Home. Select Edit then Paste.

The OTA flash is just as it should be if sent from VZW. you should have less worries than the leak.

I have a follow up question if you don't mind...

What apps (utility wise) should I download now having 2.1?

Correct. There's no reason to think that your phone will look any different to the network than if you had taken the OTA update... well, OTA.

Actually, there is a great Must Have Apps sticky thread that shows all the great apps you can get on 2.1...I would check that out.

UrbanSpoon is one that comes to mind that you couldn't get with 1.5

Yes this is the official up date. 99.999999999999 repeating that you will get the fixes.

You unlock the phone and as long as you have the HTC clock widget up it should show the weather animation...it takes about a 2 sec or so pause before it displays the animation...you may also have to check your settings...

They appear after you unlock the phone from standby. if it's raining windshield washers will wipe rain drops. cloudy - clouds will roll on your screen. stops when yout touch the screen
