Installing the OTA 2.1 file

So you are over at XDA calling all these guys effin noobs.......but makin buddy buddy with them at the same time. WOW.

I was being nice giving them what they wanted... voice input keyboard... I edited the posts and apologized. Its done move on... get over it cuz I am :D

yeah, just read up on it too, since it's based on the leak, you won't be able to do it straight from root, however, you may be able to downgrade to 1.5 depending on the rom? i'm not sure...

if you can, you should be able to install the official ota from it

Just kidding about downgrading, because you can't do that without amon's recovery image which I lost while trying to update.

What to do what to do.

Okay, well I guess I will find the stickied thread with the tutorial for downgrading..

Sucks that I lost root, it would probably come in handy right now, w/ the recovery partition.

yeah, i want to install this, but i keep waiting for some reason. just my nature i guess, let someone else (verizon) do it, and if something effs up, its allll on them, not me. haha, but once you get to the ota, it appears root won't be to far for that as well ;)

woops, missed this, sorry about the last post then. hm. that is a bummer..., there's always the option of running over it with the car

Wait, are you rooted? or were you? or leak?

I don't know if I am still rooted, I was rooted before I tried this ota update.

I lost the option of recovery (up+power)

My build # is now 2.19.605.1 CL123435 test-keys

I had a rooted rom, and I guess I still do? Doesn't test-keys mean you have a rooted rom?

Bahhh. I am so confused

Im pretty sure u lost root...

open terminal and SU, see if u get access denied....

Read the message carefully and follow the instructions. I can also confirm that this is a working method. BTW, youtube works great now.

I don't know if anyone has noticed this yet. I just tried to update my wife's phone and it kept rebooting before it started the whole "deleting files" part. Anyway, when it started back up it said "a system update needs 25 mbs of free space" or something like that. So be warned, you need 25mb of free space (on internal flash, NOT the sd card) to install the update. So you'll need to uninstall some apps first if you don't have that much.

Just tried to update from 2.1v3 as described in the phandroid post. It didn't work, and the installation process was aborted.

Easy Peasy Japaneasy...about 20 min from 1.5, everything there, just did a successful sync with my Outlook, calls are there, contacts are there but they don't show together in the call history...Signal strength 84-94 but its never been that great here in my office. Funny thing I have had a gMail account for a long time but never hooked it up for this phone...I got GMail...happy camper so far, time to go back to work.

How do I check for su?

Man oh man, what are you doing with root if you don't know how to even access root privileges? Sorry.. but..

Anyway, open a terminal and type su, it should request your password. I doubt if you have a password, though, if you don't know what su is? (super user .. the administrator, the root user, etc).

"Seeing" you made me wonder if you had received your OTA notification. If so, did you accept it? Just think it would be the end of an era. *sigh*

Just finished...lost scene settings, and like others were saying, contacts were missing, but I can see they're slowly returning. I had something crash on bootup, but I didn't know what it was. Once I finish updating my apps, i'll reboot again and see if it happens again. Everything seems snappier, just need to redo all the settings.

Oh also I see I don't have full service when I used to in the same spot I'm sitting now.
